You guys are like the Merry and Pippin of LARP. You tag along in the beginning of the main story for the fun but veer off wildly at some point and accidentally end up with your own subplots of just getting in trouble

I call that 7 of hearts trick the "stuck shuffle." I'm sure there's an actual name for it, but I've gotten pretty good at keeping both the top *and* the bottom cards where they began. Not sure I could do it under stress or with a bag on my head, but it's a fun party trick for sure.

My first LARP when I was 16 is longer gone then Mythodea does exist, but my first "Mage Regalia" were made of two old bedsheets I dyed black and my mother had sewn into a something that was basically an ankle long sack with arms and a Kapuze(hood?) attached… and normal Jeans an T-Shirt underneath, I just wrapped my Adidas and lower legs with ribbons out of leftover bedsheet, so that they didn't show
I build my first fighting staff out of Bamboo*, Pipe insulation, painters tape and paint.
I still own the Robe, I still own that Staff* and still use both sometimes when LARPing or going to a renfair
If you don't own leather and find it to expansive to buy, use paper... wrapping paper to be exact and glue. If you glue two-three(or more) sheets together with, and that is important, flexible glue you can make "vegan leather". When stained and textured you get something that looks and can be worked nearly the same way as leather. It may need a bit strengthening at the seams but with a bit of work it can be made into armour, bags, hats and nearly anything.
Second Hand & Thrift Stores are also extremely interesting as source for, well, stuff and trinkets
Its a costume! Will it look stunning if you get a hand crafted Metal Cuirass?
      Yes!
But if you budget only allows for a fake one, go for a fake one. If you make an effort to make it look good, it will show and you will look good with it
If you don't have the budget, you'll have to find the time to find other things, things that can be made to look like the real thing, its just make-believe anyway xD
      ___
*disclaimer, Bamboo might be outdated and forbidden on LARPs today,
look into the rules as what constitutes as a proper weapon core today!
I changed mine to a Fibercore a long time ago.

@@Luziferne I think I have a tendency to want to do everything at 100% and I like things to look as authentic as possible. I think I'd be decent at foam carving though as I do quite a bit of miniature work with wargaming terrain crafting and painting.
Another problem is storage, I hardly have enough space for my hobbies and clothes as is. Maybe I can commandeer some of my folks shed.
I also make fantasy maps for d&d so would love to work that into a character somehow

    • @Luziferne
      @Luziferne ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jasonread16
Even more reasons to DIY your stuff, because nothing authentic then self-made in a LARP and If you already have 1st hand experience on how to stain and texture stuff even better!
And you have a Chara-idea already too! A traveling Cartographer!
Research how maps were made in the past, which tools they used to measure the world. Build one out of scrap wood. Light Armour, as you have to "walk the Land", maybe some Linothorax or light Leather.
A Foam "Spyglass" & "Compass" as a weapon&shield? And maybe a foam dagger or rapier for heavy fighting. Maybe a Shepherds Sling with foam Stones as ranged Weapon, that one is easy to learn, but hard to master. Tubes and satchels, for maps and paints. Small odds and end and trinkets to round out your gear
And I think that @SkillTree here is a good resource for how to make stuff and level up xD

My Favorite Stories regarding our essence friends (I cannot guarantee for the truth of these):
    1. Long ago they had a Unit just for measuring things. These guys measured the player defenses. And then sent several Raks into suicide missions to attempt conversation with the players and unfortunately met one of the strongest in the settler camp (Although If I remember correctly that was a player-sided NPC) wo continued to kill them all at once, until they sacrificed two armored dudes first. He then goes "What?" like, very annoyed. The Raks then ask "could you move this pallisade 50cm so it fits in with our measurements?" Well, oneshot once again.
    2. Another, recently: A Rak was standing at a well, players are like "huh, that guy seams to develop curiosity, let him go on. The Rak then sliced up his arm and thus poisons the well with essence, I think he even entirely let himself slide in. As essence of course.
But those are all second hand tales, I might have gotten something wrong or heard about stuff that never happened

Not being part of the main plot and becoming distracted random stuff that wasn't planned and just spontaneously happened, partying in the Tross till morning, someone being possessed by an enemy faction trying to kill you... Sound like a pretty normal conquest.
I was the guy who pledged allegiance to the black Prince. I am part of another forsaken faction, the society of doubt, do it was more of an renewal of the allegiance we already had.

Mhmm difficult to say but with the informations given:
Your character possibly didn't offer much of play by themself.
I always recommand New players that just being a warrior isn't enough because the only play you offer other people to engage with you is fighting.
Always think about what one can do, right now I'm working on a toy mechant with straw Puppets for children.
Gives other people plenty ways to Engage with me.

Experiences always differ a little. For example, I have friends that went for many years and said that this was the worst larp theyve ever been to. Others had a very great time. My experience was... okay. It all really depends on your surroundings and sometimes just luck, being in the right places. For example, I think if they had actually gone to the Archon, from my experience, it would have been a lot less fun than stumbling into the wrong camp and then meeting other people.
They also mostly played in the Tross, which is notorious for always being busy and having something happen. Theres a bunch of factors (If it was also your first larp in general, I wouldnt recommend something that big for the start. Where you there with an established player group or relatively by yourself?

You should be aware - and make your viewers aware:
This expirience is not the usual Conquest expirience!
Clever and co. got two (!) ONE in SEVENHUNDERED events in a row in the very first event. This is not normal. Conquest of Mythodea had this problem since the early years with the element camps that the great events always had 'magically' found the VIP Players and their crew. It was tried to get better then this, but Viewers be aware:
Burgschneider did make sure that they have had a unique event and got not only great plots, great visions and great expiriences, but also the first hand care of an SL. They been bought in Influencers in the end. Keep this in mind, or you may be dissapointed.
I don't say that the Mythodea is bad. But as someone that been there since 2005 I know that this is not a normal expirience, but the special VIP threatment that they got to get a good video from it. I and all the people in my playgroup and people around that i know never managed to get any of this "one in 700" events happen to them.

    • @SkillTree
      @SkillTree  ปีที่แล้ว +9

As you have copied and pasted this from the last video, I will do the same with my response. I am going to push back a little on this one. Not your experience, as I was made aware of how rare a thing those two experiences were. But I will push back that it was because of VIP treatment. Mostly because they couldn't have known we would end up there. We ignored all of the plot hooks given to us by the new player experience and took on our own random quest from our curiosity. We went to the mage guild to learn more about a coin, and they had no info, so they said we could try the artilleir*, as that is where random info is gathered. It took us no more than 15 minutes to get there, and 10 min after that, the first experience happened. They would have had to, in the time it took us to walk from the tross, prepared the tent we went to in the woods, prepared background audio recordings, grabbed some in costume undead flesh, come up with thw premis and make sure everyone was on the same page, and then bring us in. The second one had whole setpieces and prophecy recordings playing in the background. That is a whole lot of setup in a stupid small amount of time. Though rare to happen, I honestly think that is way too tight a window for them to set all that in motion, especially since the only Burgschnieder person with us was holding the camera and following. Would have been hard to miss the rapid setup, lol.
Being a youtuber covering an event tends to get you fewer experiences, at least so far for us, not more. Because we are trying to show as much as possible and had to stop halfway to film talking bits, we end up doing lots of wandering. Most of the new players who were with us went off and had WAY better adventurea lol. We got super lucky that our random question about a necklace led us to a story rich environment this time. To your point, tho, it was indeed a rare thing, I understand, and won't be everyone's experience.

    • @beol_
      @beol_ ปีที่แล้ว +11

As the guy filming these experience I can tell you that I was more surprised than they were.
The first was a 700% moment that took place for small groups throughout the afternoon who were at the Atelier. They were not the only group to experience this scene.
The second was a group dream sequence that took place for everyone in the Atelier at that point, with 20+ people in the experience together.
The Vice and Virtue play is actually all player driven, and was not planned by the plot team at all.
I appreicate you trying to balance expectations, but assuming it's VIP Treatment is simply untrue.

This sounds amazing but the entire time you were describing the bit about the knockout mechanic and getting bagged I couldn't help but worry about how someone could actually be put in real danger by people who abuse it. Is there ways to mitigate that risk within the event? Ways to know who is an event organizer/staff member?

    • @Rolfur.Vargson

First, it's a big community of larpers, people are there to play together and have a great time. The risk of getting in real danger isn't that high. There are mechanics to show intime or outtime if you don't like the situation like crossing your arms in front of your body means your outtime (you stop playing / want to go out of the situation immediately). If you want to stay in time there are security words to show your opponent that you don't like the situation / you don't want to interact with him. Using the word 'really, really' intime like saying 'I really, really don't want to do this' means that you want to get out of this situation because you have a serious problem with it. You can use really, really if you don't want to break up with immersion.
If you want to get out of a situation immediately you say 'STOP' loud and clear or shout out. If you do this everyone around knows, something serious is happen and will stop playing and look what happens and if help is needed.
Event managers / staff members wearing in time clothing, too but they're easily to identify by wearing big yellow bags or ribbons. Even leaders of PC and NPC groups have yellow ribbons to show they have staff authorities.
There is also an outtime rest room we're you can get professional psychological support.

Can't help but wonder if your card playing buddies were expecting you to cheat the hell out of those three games. 😅

If you got more aerial or combat footage pls share. even if its just barely edited with some free music over it. As an Combat NPC its the part i enjoy the most and it is always very superficially covered. Would helpt to convince more ppl to become an npc. the trailers and photos dont actually show how fun combat can be. Or how well coordinated some engagements are. Would also help to show how big they can get. sadly the organizer has a bad trackrecord for showing more then tinsy tiny clips of combat.

There is a RP Mechanic taught to players for this exact situation that communicates it without breaking the scene.

A bag put over your head from behind and literally dragged away? Grabbed by the neck from behind? That's asking for someone to be real world hurt very seriously. Very much BANNED conduct in reasonable LARP rules.

Listening to this, I expect there is a certain amont of dramatisation. The rules Burgschneider enforces are very much along the lines of "safe, sane, consentual" - if you know who you're dealing with, have agreed to full contact play and are in a reasonably safe terrian, then dragging someone is perfectly acceptable.
Grabbing someone by the neck in LARP usually means you have your hand placed so that your thumb and pointerfinger are on their collarbone or on their jaw. It has the same visual effect, but is safe bc your hand is "anchored" on bone.
For bagging, there are certain weaves of fabric that are sheer to the point of being see through, you can cut an unobtrusive slit into the fabric or you can simply pull the bag over someone's head, then break character for a moment, explain what is happening and walk without the bag until your in a safe environment and resume play at that point.
Burgschneider also has certain "safewords": calling out "stop" is a full break of play. Everyone breaks character, the situation is asessed ooc and play resumes once an agreement has been found or the scene is dissovled. The "really really" rule means whatever is being said needs to be respected in game, like "I really really need to get back to camp." If someone is going to "take care of the horses" it means they are dealing with duties/matters outside of the game (showers, restroom breaks, cleaning dishes, etc.).
I've been to Conquest and related cons for around 8 years now, and the only actual injuries I have seen were accidents along the line of someone tripping or accidentaly catching a blow to the head in fighting. Anyone who maliciously breaks the rules is dealt with very quickly by the game masters.
