Not a bad idea. Steel armor is typically suspended from cords attached to shirt and pants, but one might not want to attach cords to all the pants one might want to wear with the leg armor. A dedicated belt that would go with any other clothes you wear would be great.
If they are hanging the right height, the belt around the though only has to be long enough so it can't twist around.. The strap is there to keep them laying on the right place but shouldn't give any super or hold out up at all. If you're fighting, the last thing you want is for your movement to be slowed or stopped.
Regarding Leg armor suspension: Don't suspend them in front, but on the side. That way, it sits parallel with the hip joint and the lenght won't change.
I just wish someone would do a Reckoning like event in the Fall season so we can show off more of our seasonal outfits/armor and gear as well as get to enjoy that amazing feeling of rapping up in furs/heavy cloaks and have a drink by a fire pit with friends. Plus one of my friends can't be out in the heat for too long for medical reasons :(
Whenever we think about running a game, we usually like the idea of it being in the fall. Spring/Summer dances WILDLY between super hot and super rainy. When we HAVE had early spring games, we found the colder weather much easier to deal with and it lets you wear a lot more with your costume.
Totally agree. It's so much easier to make a costume warmer rather than cooler. I just got back from Drachenfest US and it was 90° and humid all weekend. I ended up not wearing 50% of my outfit because I was already suffering in my minimal kit.
Several larp/larp adjacent groups do early October. Feyhaven and SCA both have events around the first weekend in October. There are also a few others, and plenty that do events full into the winter
Ok. So as someone who has had to wear armor on the regular. The shoulder straps connected to the belt makes a huge difference in being able patrol all day. But to counter act the pull of something connected to your thighs, means you NEED to strap from the bottom up. So put your thigh armor on first where is comfortable, then stand up straight, and connect the shoulder straps. If you uncomfortable pulling on your shoulders slightly adjust your shoulders harness one notch at a time until you feel slight comfortable pressure on your shoulders. Which does mean you might have to build up your Traps and core to feel more comfortable without the chest armor. Those are more..... Three, four, copper pieces for thoughts.
Tip for lace-up boots in mud, bring 2 plastic grocery/trash bags! Just slide them over your boots when you go into your tent and slide them off as you leave! Keeps all the mud inside the bag and keeps your tent clean while still being fast for when you just need to grab something!
Well done on your boot choice. They are full grain leather and the construction states it has a steel shank, which makes you have a ton of support for your arches. The steel shank works by doing more of the heavy lifting as you take a step instead of your arch trying to keep the rest of the boot itself straight and only bending at the toes. It also seems to be Goodyear welted construction, which the description of the product mentions somewhat and isn’t just shown in the pictures. Due to that Goodyear construction these boots can be resoled by a cobbler. I give these boots 10/10.
I love when you make somthing and show the resultes of usage, you are honset when things dont really work but dont whine about it as it gives you an opertunity to try somthing new. I also share your excitement when somthing you designed, made, and used turns out really well. I enjoy the gear updates, thank you
Padding is always good for harnesses. Especially on shoulders and anywhere that leather meets leather. I also love it on belt and vests. Lining was a great idea.
counterintuitively, you may want to make narrower suspenders next time (like match the width of store-bough suspenders, but padded). that way they can be more "in between" your "moving bits"
For your harness, try taking some of the weight of your belt on your hips. Steel armor is made to divide the weight between your hips and shoulders to make it easier to carry all day. Or possibly build the shoulder straps into the chest/back pieces!
Honestly I love these vids, it’s always nice to see you truthfully review your items and give notes on improvements so that I can go back when I want to make it and know what makes it better before I start
I love seeing you go back and reviewing stuff you’ve done. I am *stoked* that the sewing kit did a good job. Because I want to make it or something similar and it’s awesome to see it worked well!! ❤❤❤
I was thinking about the shoulder harness; you could make the actual part that goes over shoulder, out of a durable padded cloth? The cloth would be breathable and less digging into your shoulders. The rest could be made out of leather, buckles and such. When I would go to the field in the Marine Corp, an "A" type frame ("A" frame has a single strap going down the middle of your back) was always more comfortable than a "H" frame (H frame has a strap going straight down over each shoulder) and "A" Frames are less restrictive. It would allow your shoulders more freedom of movement too. I really enjoy your channel. Please keep up the good work.
About the stiff shoulders, I have two thoughts. The first is, why would you try to distribute wheight to the soulders. Usually you try to bring wheight down to the waist. Like with the waist strips of rucksacks, and with wearing a bet over chainmail. This is one of the areas were I noticed that training really helps. There are a lot of muscles in your shoulders that are not used to wearing load, that get stiff and sore fast. Doing some shoulder excercises and regularly go on walks with you gear really makes it easier.
Looking forward to find you on the field of CoM again this year! The Sorrowful Regiment of St. Vitoria's Rest is almost ready for this year! Have loads of fun!
You might want to consider adding padding to the underside of the shoulder parts of the harness, that might make it work easier. Adding a thin layer of softer foam with a very soft, thin leather to contain it before stitching it to the shoulders works well for that sort of thing. For the chest part, add some bandolier stuff there to add utility and padding With the thigh armor, rather than a keeper, adding a second button would work great for that kind of thing
I'd been thinking about making a hanging wrap pouch like the one on your leather kit, but wasn't sure how well they grip things that extend out, that mallet doesn't look like it's going anywhere though, I'll definitely give it a try after this. For the harness aggitating your shoulders could you use SB buttons on the front and back of the chest section of the armour, so you'd have secondary anchor points for the belts on the chest piece itself? So then you can adust between how much of the weight is on the harness vs the armour, You could do the same with buckles directly on the armour I suppose, and just make basic secondary straps from the armour to the belts.. might help disperse the weight a little more. Can't wait to see how you resolve it. no doubts you will. Glad everthing held up. Great video guys, 😁.
Hi. Thoroughly enjoy your channel. One question (that maybe I've missed) How do you seal your leather after dyeing? Is it the Resist that you rub on it, or is it something else? Thanks!
Nect month I'm actually going on a 5 day backpacking trip. While i am bringing a bunch of "certified" gear, im also bringing stuff i made that i learned from you
im so glad youre getting sponsored. i was here WELL before you got sponsored so to see it is awesome. also adhd gang rise up. its an entire experience trying to remember shit lmao
I do a lot of medieval camping events and some I'd really like, is a way to take a bath. I need some sort of collapsible bathtub. I don't trust the inflatable kind for camping environments. Maybe someone Clev3r could figure it out 😁
I think it’s fair to be concerned with your comfort but if it’s supposed to be armor you won’t be because you didn’t wear the armor all the time so really consider if you’re aiming for “looks/comfort” or “semi recreation authenticness” too
I feel like the best way to deal with the thigh armor problem is to just embrace your true roguish nature and always be sneaking around or crouching, you might wanna up your squats and do some daily stretching cause you don't want any physical problems, good luck!
I want to thank you both sincerely and sarcastically. Always thought it would be cool to get into leather making but was a bit intimidated. You got me to do a complete 180 and go on a shopping spree. I already have enough to do 😂. Since you made a bow and accessories have you ever thought of making a horse bow quiver for your bow when you decide to switch to swords/dagger? You should so I can go on another shopping spree for my bow 😂
Designs yes. Materials no. Have tried different projects y’all do but any specific vender like the glowing paint; have had nothing but horrible results from. So design ideas are solid it’s just the materials you have to make sure you are using good stuff. Not sure if the specific brands you mention when you do are paid sponsorships but based on the results being so different I get the feeling they are.
With the gauntlets You might consider that it wasn't necessarily how you design them. Cause if you look at videos in the past VS now your arms have gotten a hell of a lot bigger than they were I've had similar problems with my wrist guards Huge props on your workout plan by the way It might Just be an adjustability issue Your shoulders have also gotten bigger, which might be leading to the problem with the rubbing
Hey random yet important question... I donated to the Gofund me but id prefer to have my not real name used. Is there a way to switch that to my character name instead?
Never underestimate cloaks. They are 5stars even if they are literal sheets of cloth and just pulled around a person. Petition of bring back cloaks? Who’s with me?
As the parent of someone with ADHD, and someone newly diagnosed myself (at age 60!), I can absolutely tell you that you have ADHD. 🙃 (This is not a medical diagnosis 😁 )
No, just no... Please no on those boots! No to those boots! "Just add horns to your helmet and you'll look like anything historical!"? No! Dear gods of all that you find holy, NO!
For the leg armor, wear 2 belts. One for holding up legs and pants, one for pouches.
Not a bad idea. Steel armor is typically suspended from cords attached to shirt and pants, but one might not want to attach cords to all the pants one might want to wear with the leg armor. A dedicated belt that would go with any other clothes you wear would be great.
Belts. Multiples belts should be part of EVERY kit.
Funny that's the solution i thought of one for the pants and such the other for the torso armor and such things.
If they are hanging the right height, the belt around the though only has to be long enough so it can't twist around.. The strap is there to keep them laying on the right place but shouldn't give any super or hold out up at all. If you're fighting, the last thing you want is for your movement to be slowed or stopped.
Well done. StormyMoans.
"A really basic project", he says, while holding such a beautiful quiver.
I keep telling people anything that made it through Reckoning is gold to me. It survived the Muckening and tornadoes. It's good stuff.
Regarding Leg armor suspension:
Don't suspend them in front, but on the side. That way, it sits parallel with the hip joint and the lenght won't change.
@9:30 Cl3ver never misses a chance to flash those guns.
I'm cool with it. No complaints here. lol

I recommend checking out Weekend Warrior Experience, it's in October in SC.

I actually brought the sewing kit to Muckoning (my version) it came in clutch when I tore a hole in my shirt sleeve.

I love these retrospective project reviews, it's great to see how these things hold up over time

Haven't been this early since Cl3ver still colored his hair!
The cringe is so real on thise episodes🤣🤣🤣
@@SkillTree early days. Not only have the build skills improved, the channel has alongside.
Keep leveling up, you!
Grey.....
Embrace that wearing of the finish of the armor! Shows that you actually use it.

I was sitting on my front porch watching that very tornado. Funny to think that you were right there.

It is always good to reflect & analysis of things after you’ve field tested them. Keep up the good work you to.
Happy to see Maddie’s bird back also.
Can you please share what waterproofing products you used to waterproof your boss?
I used those boots for years for CIV / LARP - also recommend!
Great to hear how projects held up under real world conditions, good to hear honest reviews what did the job and what needed some reworking🤔
I greatly respect dedicating video to going over your work. This would be a great annual video. :)
Looking forward to find you on the field of CoM again this year! The Sorrowful Regiment of St. Vitoria's Rest is almost ready for this year! Have loads of fun!

Great video guys, 😁.
For those upper thigh straps you could do some elastic and hide it under some faux leather - spandex leather like fabric
Hi. Thoroughly enjoy your channel. One question (that maybe I've missed) How do you seal your leather after dyeing? Is it the Resist that you rub on it, or is it something else? Thanks!
You do such good work, and you share that info with everyone. (And your videos are just too much fun to watch.) Thanks for all the good work!!!
I have those boots in tan. Got them from Cavender's
Clever you’re looking buff. Thanks for the video! Love your products.
See you at Conquest 😁
I appreciate these reviews, definitely solidifies what projects I need to do! Thank you!
A great idea for an episode.
Quick note about the notebooks from Reckoning: mine got destroyed in the rain before the event, so they look great but are pretty fragile
You'll be able to field-test quite a few of these things at Pennsic, if you're going again this year. Are you?
If the Fates are kind, maybe next year I'll get to go to Reckoning. I should get to crafting some armor, just in case.
Good vid! I really like everything you make😊😊😊
Nect month I'm actually going on a 5 day backpacking trip. While i am bringing a bunch of "certified" gear, im also bringing stuff i made that i learned from you
to pad the back of the shoulder straps... i would use black sheeps wool
An idea for your thigh armor, maybe put some points on your breeches to connect them to.
Why not eliminate the suspenders altogether? Attach the belt directly to the vest.
I love your channel! What product did you use to waterproof your boots?
im so glad youre getting sponsored. i was here WELL before you got sponsored so to see it is awesome. also adhd gang rise up. its an entire experience trying to remember shit lmao

Does anyone have a link for conquests alchemy system? As well as rules for what you can and can't do with various brews?
Will you guys be going to pennsic this year?
I will be at conquest, will the skill tree camp its own like the wayfarer or more like as a part of bigger camp?
With the gauntlet , does it still rub if you wear something under it?
I feel like the best way to deal with the thigh armor problem is to just embrace your true roguish nature and always be sneaking around or crouching, you might wanna up your squats and do some daily stretching cause you don't want any physical problems, good luck!

i wear a harness beneath my breastplate to attach my belt. the full harness spreads the load better
weight is supposed to be on your hips, not your shoulders. thats why chainmail is to be worn with a belt. it ties the weight of the mail to your hips.
literally love your vids, first 50 views
Hey random yet important question... I donated to the Gofund me but id prefer to have my not real name used. Is there a way to switch that to my character name instead?
Sure! Can you send us an email? Hello@skilltree.how
My friend said she wanted to do leatherwork so I directed her towards your channel. If you read this... Hi Sarah xx
The thigh armor might be better with a dedicated belt, worn under the main belt, might be best
Kit low key flexing and showing off the guns lol
Your discord isn't working

SNARF!!!!
You could probably do without the shoulder straps entirely if you put D rings low inside the chest armor and attach the belt to that instead.
Never knew I would see a video under 500 likes. Till I realised I was early.
Withstand the test of tornados
Go go major Chad
You make me quiver 😂❤
took a screenshot of Cl3ver showing off the guns, gonna make it a mem in the discord 😂
