I know this is going to sound super random, but growing up during the "satanic panic," it is nice to see that "D&D-style" role-playing has become so widely accepted. I'd like to take this space to thank Mrs. Williams, my 5th-6th grade Social Studies teacher who introduced me to D&D, Elf Quest, etc. and gave us a space to play/game (her classroom during recess). This was deep in the early 80s when teachers were being FIRED for that sort of thing. That's right. Teachers were fired for letting kids play D&D back then. Let that sink in for a minute. Great video.
I use Living Anachronism's videos to help with implementing old tech into modern life, his videos are great! Loving the LARP stories, I can't wait 'til I can get into some IRL LARPing, and the stories and "behind-the-scenes" really make it more approachable!
I’m glad it makes it more approachable! Similar videos did the same to us and really inspired our want to go LARPing. One of the reasons we like doing these videos, to hopefully do the same for others.
I just love that Kramer's personality is just so different from Skill and Maddie's. Hyper loud humans meet elegant elf lmao Edit: bro i litterally had to wait 5 mins to realize his irl name is Kit
That was fun. I've never LARPed or even played D&D, but I grew up reading Lord of the Rings and doing something in this genre sounds like a lot of fun. I've never died fictionally, but I did die in real life once. Luckily, there was a healer there and they were able to do CPR for 40 minutes, and after a helicopter ride and a few weeks in hospitals, I came home and am relatively normal again. But I wanted to say that amnesia is definitely a side effect from dying, so Kramer forgetting who attacked him is certainly valid.
Good on you mate, glad you got the help you needed. LOTR is one of my favourite reads, as is His Dark materials by Phillip K. Pullman, a great read. Cheers!
Just awesome! You are real Rolemodels to me and so many others! Kramer I loved the livestream after your amazing trailer edit and Clever I hope the knife will turn out great!
That story Anachronism told at the 16:00 minute mark reminded me of my first time larping, ever. My very first LARP game with my very first character which in truth was going to be a three-game throw away character because I needed to play three games before I changed to who it was I had intentions to play. The name of my character was even a misspelling of a given name at Starbucks... and I fell in love. I fell in love hard and played her until she walked out of Gatorland. As Syd tossed a frisbee to a strange, large fishman with a strange large shield a cry for help made her turn her head as the disk left her fingers. She never saw where it landed for she was too busy hoisting up a stop sign for a make-shift shield and already three strides towards the screaming. The familiar holler of help from unfamiliar voices rang out into the mangrove forest, their blood curdling screams could only mean one thing... they were being torn apart while they were alive. Her companion from before, she found out was named Grouper and as he stepped up next to her she felt for the first time like she was at home. A shield brother by any other name, a trusted fighter and companion. Little did she know he would become one of her best friends, but at this moment she knew he would be her best ally. As they rushed forward her other friend, the one she had met and traveled a few years with had also followed and picked her shield up. The three of them together were clumsily halted by a blatantly obvious trap as they finally saw the reason for the plight. Murderous, hungry, fowl creatures with faces of night and no features prowled on two legs as these once humanish things tore at the bodies, some still living, at their feet. Chunks of meat being shoved into a space where a mouth should be, the blood trickling down the oblivion that created their flesh was unnerving . It was a challenge and one Syd was none too eager to back down from. Looking to either side she was unsure of what her companions wanted to do, there was no way to get around it. Grouper had stepped up and told them to rush in against their better judgement lest they not have another chance as he burst through the electrical wiring and poisoned barbs. Brandishing her sword Syd let out a war-cry and rushed forward into the expecting raiders. That is what those beasts were. Raiders. Once human things that weren't quite zombies but carry no moniker of humanity, smarter, faster and in some ways hungrier. The loud rings of their shoddy weapons hitting her shield gave her focus for the people around her, even her friends were falling. "This is where I die." She thought as she kept blocking blow after blow and retaliating with the fierceness of a bullshark in a bathtub. An acrid scent of blood and bile filled her nostrils as sweat stung her eyes, not backing down. Taking no time for her small victory of defeating one of the dastardly things she was able to look around to find another enemy to engage. Scanning the battlefield she met the eyes of her female companion and in one, slow moment Syd saw a Raider step out from behind a tree and in one sweeping motion cut down her friend. As Syd did her best to rush to her friend's side, a raider had blind sided her and speared her to the ground. Looking up into the eyeless face, the faceless face of the creature now looming above her, she was helpless. During the tackle she was paralyzed, unable to move but still able to scream. With a long, hard yell she called out for her lover, "BONEYARD!!" and again, "BONEYARD!" This was not how she was going to die. She couldn't die here. Not when she had some one to mourn, not when she had some one to fight for, not when she had people to save, but at the same time in these final moments she was accepting the fact she may as the Raider began to cut open her skin and break her ribs to get to her still-beating heart. Indeed it was still beating and behind it indeed she had lungs to fill. The pain was making everything fuzzy as her head reeled from lack of blood. There was warmth around her lips that tasted like copper and she wasn't too sure if these creatures bled. Looking over to the place where she burst through, her eyes welled with tears as she saw him. "BONEYARD!!" She managed to sputter out one more time as they made eye contact. When he saw her, she smiled at him thinking it would be the last one she would give him then out of nowhere a bloke in camo pants and a black, ripped up muscle shirt rounds a tree and takes the raider by surprise that was digging into her chest cavity. Unsure if this was a friend or foe, she didn't even know this person's name... But at that moment, he was her savior. The undeniable red cross patch that was on his pants triggered a memory in her brain, he was a field medic. He would be able to save her. Not even giving her the chance to process anything he hooks her up with some very powerful medicine and hoists her to her feet because even half-dead she would prefer to walk rather than be carried. Holding her chest together, literally, she saw where her friend had died. The body was no longer there, which was a good indicator that the Gravemind had swallowed her up already and would spit her back out near the tavern as it did with most everyone who had a run like this. "Wait." Syd managed to sputter out as she bent down and grabbed her friend's shield up as well as a few other of her belongings. Trudging out into the main town she had passed a citizen who was making their way to help but taking their sweet time. There were two of them, but the one that Syd remembers is the one who said, "They're just being stupid." And the look that Syd had cast towards that staff holder that said that sent chills down their spine. Syd marked that one for death, for it was after that she learned that the initial pain that they suffered with the trap could have been prevented if they had moved just a little faster. Her friend could still be alive had the they just moved a little faster. "Sit" The healer told Syd. So lost in her internal monologue she was the scenery change had escaped her. They were in front of the infirmary and he was tending to her more grievous wounds. "You saved me." Syd said, not really believing that it happened. "I sure did." He replied as he busied himself with mending her flesh. "And you were in combat." She followed. "I sure was." He replied, seemingly almost annoyed by her dazed and confused sounding statements. "I owe you my life." She followed. "Nawh. Just keep fighting for the town and I'll be here to keep saving you." He said with a complimentary head pat. She didn't know what to think of that but at the moment she was just going to accept it. The two had sat in silence while he finished, herself letting out small grunts, oofs and tttsssshhhhh through the teeth on sharp inhales from unexpected pokes. "Will you be my healer?" She asked as he finished up. "You know, follow me into battle and all?" He sat in silence for a moment as he thought. He gave her a hard thrice over before giving an answer, "Sure." And that's how Syd got a healer.

It's funny, being Canadian, Reckoning is actually almost exactly a 30min drive closer to me than Bicolline is. It's still a 7.5hr-ish trip, but maybe one day I'll be able to go to Reckoning. I wanted to go to Bico, but I prefer the RP heavier larps--which makes Reckoning better for me.

I mentioned this in a bit of a cheeky way over on Living Anachronism, but I am DEFINITELY going to Reckoning next year. I've been looking at lore and possible kit like an absolute madman, and this is what I have for a character so far: 1.) He is a warrior, so I can go sword board, and maybe a greatsword if budget allows 2.) Is ADAMANT that the Vadurkin stand with the Rivlan resistance forces to push back the Hadrians, and wants to recruit the Suzak-Mar to assist with that too 3.) Because he is not only willing, but vocal about his willingness to work with the Rivlans, and his family isn't, he was disowned from his noble house and ended up as a banner man for the Magtvæg Clan. He has had trust issues since 4.) If you hadn't noticed, he HATES Hadrians and what they represent. He honestly would take/be part of an army to invade the Hadrian homeland and burn it to the ground
