- Last year at BCON I made a presentation on Real by FAKE’s pipeline. I was authorized to show one work-in-progress shot from a movie called Aftermath. We’ve just finished the project. It was the biggest VFX show we have ever made a 95% of the CG is done in Blender, rendered in Cycles. This year I will present a making-of of the project. From storyboard to layout, lighting, and comp. I will explain how we managed to handle such big scenes with many heavy assets. Out of 1260 shots, more than 650 shots involved 3D.

41:14 There are some select videogrammetry shots in Bohemian Rhapsody but only some. It seems like you have a setup that could cater for a full production and I can't wait to see more about it!

its cool to see how VFX company like FAKE is doing it with Blender, definitely agree with mipmap still high poly count slow down is quite problem sometimes dealing with alembic simulations in Blender, I hope some fix will be in the way
The video photogrammetry is very similar to what Anima XYZ does with their 4D people scans. I would love to see more of this content and the ability to buy premade packs of video photogrammetry characters for blender

I feel the pain. Texture caches (mipmaps etc.) missing in Cycles, I hope it will arrive some day
About the "impossible texture", you can bake it into a more manageable form, and UVs, I guess.
This is amazing..I have goose bump..Blender Bob and Real By Fake did amazing and inspirational work..Thanks Blender Bob 👏👏👏👏🙏 I think audiences there just didn't understand how revolutionary is this presentation for the future of Blender community and Blender 3D and what's going on really .. They just sleeping so shame!!

it is very interesting
it's called multipass compositing. he does have a full series of videos explaining compositing, it's 50% of 3D in pro vfx workflow.

How did you get such a clean plate without the bridge? Did you manually paint out the bridge?
Hey, I worked on the project with Robert at real by fake. For the clean plates behind the bridge we went there and shot drone footages in every angles and did a massive 360 video panorama so we could use it in every angle in Nuke. We did this on many shots. We just kept the foreground and remove the bridge and replace the background with a panorama projected on a sphere in nuke with the 3D camera filming it.
Cycles isn't really photoreal like octane :/ He need really serious improvement !
