Man this was so good and in the meantime so representative of what being a small business is ! Love the end word about the industry besides THE INDUSTRY, this is so true
I love seeing how people tackle hyper specific problems in their field. This was great! "There is an industry outside 'the industry' " is a great takeaway and a really important point to drive home in the constant "industry standard" debate that people bring up about 3D software packages. Is Blender used in every major studio film in America? Maybe not... But it was used to render a million doors for this online retailer! Just as valid a use case! :)
Those guys probably made more money in less stressful environment than some studios that were created just to serve one Hollywood blockbuster and shut down right after.
I did this exact same thing when I worked at Masonite doors in FL in 2018-2019. Fun project and over a few million doors created for marketing, promo, 3d spinning animations, etc. all with blender, python scripting and php/mysql. Small world 😂
Great presentation! We are currently working on the same type of project for funerary monuments, also with several thousand configurations. The renderings are generated live on a GPU server according to the user "s choices. The doors are funnier 😂. And yes, there are many industries outside "industry" that need 3D services.
Very interesting, I have also once modeled a few Japanese shoji doors or Irish "dublin doors", there are actually a huge amount of door designs in this world. I can confirm: the door universe is unlimited!🚪♾
Loved every second of the video. So relateable and we also came across similar "issues". That's the part of 3D that no TH-camr tells you before you decide to do that for a living :)
Me: This is hilarious because I thought it was going to be about the actual Marvel movie Multiverse of Madness, since Doctor strange always renders multiplied fractal patterns of hundreds of 3D objects, and instead it's like this boring Excel spreadsheet... Him: So we have... an Excel spreadsheet 💀
This , After watching this I'm confused whether to appreciate the problem being solved by shear ingenuity or whether the fact that such a problem exists. With that many choices I wouldn't know what to buy anymore lol
I should have used you when I made a render of my apartment, for the purpose of selling it (it's still for sale, but it was an asset according to the REA). Doors made me go crazy. I had eight doors. 4 different setups. Front door, (glass, different lock), halway door (glass 6 devided) no lock, back door (single pain of glass, lock,), room doors, 4 different frames as well. And then there was a sliding terras door. Different handles. Aaaaarch. Rendered it in EEVEE because it was a video. Thus is a great lecture into the power of Blender. And scripting. Deep bow.
I think this is amazing work, though an argument could be made in this specific case for a live solution, such as WebGL with textures applied in realtime. EDIT: I may be wrong of course, it's very possible that the quality of the renders they made can't be achieved with WebGL.
Very interesting, thank you for sharing! Didn't you ever feel that removing the 'checkbox', 'arrow', 'screen' and 'camera' icons from the outliner would make your life easier? (& 'object content')
Great speech! It really shows the versatility of Blender. The first thing that comes to mind when you think of 3D software is usually CGI and art, but there are so many more use cases.
1) I hope you made at least a million dollars doing this, good job. 2) This should have been 3js job not a blender job, you could have all this on a webapp and get assembled renders in Realtime.
Your method is the Right Way to do it; start with the simplest solution and add on to it when the need arises. It's unfortunate that you ended up with Object Oriented nonsense at the end, but at least you started off correctly. Notice how you understood the process at the beginning, but when the OO stuff started you lost understanding. This always happens, and is a great reason to avoid OO and unnecessary complexity for the sake of "Clean Code" or "Modern Design" which has been thoroughly debunked since the disaster of the 90s OO obsession.
Man this was so good and in the meantime so representative of what being a small business is ! Love the end word about the industry besides THE INDUSTRY, this is so true
the title did not disappoint.
Every time you think "we have reached the end" Sebastian is there to remind you that there are still more doors

The perfect example of a boring business. Perfectly executed with systems, structure and discipline. I love it.
This is amazing and technically impressive, but the whole time I was just thinking: Why didn't they just make a real time renderer for the website lol
that‘s on purpose! they use the images for SEO. ;)
@sebastian_koenig Ohh! Makes a bit more sense.
Those guys probably made more money in less stressful environment than some studios that were created just to serve one Hollywood blockbuster and shut down right after.
i;d have never known there was this types of jobs in the 3D industry, its hella interesting.
This video is basically: "But wait, there's more".
Average Client sentence..fr fr
Congratulations, you are officially a developer. I know you said you are not a developer, but this is exactly what it is to be a developer.
What a gargantuan amount of work. I can't fathom just how much time and effort was saved by all the scripts

Someone needs to edit these talks down into some IanHubert style 1 minute tutorials
But then they wouldn't last until next year
I'm not even a 3D artist or related to 3D but, as a freelance graphic designer....
OH MY GOD.
"But wait there's more...."

Could you further explain on the outside the "industry"? I've been interested in working on these types of projects.
fantastic presentation, "When you open the door for someone, you also open it for yourself."
Very interesting, I have also once modeled a few Japanese shoji doors or Irish "dublin doors", there are actually a huge amount of door designs in this world.
I can confirm: the door universe is unlimited!🚪♾
Back in the day my first contact with Blender was a DVD for Blender 2.6 with Sebastian könig as instructor. Feels like a good flashback
23:50 - That @Davie504 easter egg was brilliant!
"We're gonna need doors. A lot of doors."
Briillant! Very good presentation about problem solving. Thats why i like BCONs, there are such a good ideas like these. Thanks!
I am amazed that videos in presentations are still not working well in 2023 :D

💀
awesome work - congrats to the team!
23:53 omg my mind immediately went to him lmao
HODOR!
Awesome topic and fun thought..... (Please put a High Pass Filter on your video, to cut all the low frequency. Cheers.)
doors
Really great talk , shows how we can make money is another waye. There are other cake we can eat . Wish I had this job
This , After watching this I'm confused whether to appreciate the problem being solved by shear ingenuity or whether the fact that such a problem exists. With that many choices I wouldn't know what to buy anymore lol

As explained before, the images are a marketing tool. An image can appear in google results, a realtime rendering can not ;)
very true!@@sebastian_koenig
I remember rendering hundreds of tissue samples onto a 3d curtain in Blender. Thanks to Daniel we already had python....
This is one of the very useful tools ever invented, gut gemacht. aber kann ich nicht sagen dass will ich nicht das Scriptuer 2.0
Scaringly amazing work.
Guys I think this guy is talking about doors
Very interesting, thank you for sharing! Didn't you ever feel that removing the 'checkbox', 'arrow', 'screen' and 'camera' icons from the outliner would make your life easier? (& 'object content')
on the contrary, i wish they would enable holdout and indirect by default as well 😅
Surprisingly great talk and presentation!
Great speech! It really shows the versatility of Blender. The first thing that comes to mind when you think of 3D software is usually CGI and art, but there are so many more use cases.
Was ein geiler Vortrag. Hatte für mich irgendwie den vibe wie bei den Vorträgen von David Kriesel.
there is never enough doors
Amazing real world example of Blender’s power.
thats crazy
Why can I hear so many people talking while he is doing his presentation??
Lets go another German blender user!
xd
this is amazing!
They are better off using the King James Version of Scriptuer. If you ask me. 😇😄
stabiles englisch
nice
That’s quite some Real Fake Doors!
1) I hope you made at least a million dollars doing this, good job. 2) This should have been 3js job not a blender job, you could have all this on a webapp and get assembled renders in Realtime.

this has nothing to do with spiderman.
Mine doorness 😂😂😂
Now we need windows, fences, and gates!!!
Monsters Inc . . .
