Man Metal Sonic was on a roll in earlier IDW comics. This is the type of treatment he needs in the games. He should really be Sonic’s main rival at this point
Metal as a character has technically reached his peak, the Metal Virus arc in the IDW made room for new things to come but Sega and Sonic Team are not likely to take the route that's laid out in front of them for the future of Metal as a character. For now he'll continue to stagnate

Metal Sonic is one of those characters you shouldn’t use unless you plan to do something big with him.
