Mechanic by trade here - You are doing it right by applying dirty oil to the sealing o-ring of the oil filter. It is not the oil that stops the filter from later binding to the block but rather the particulate in the old oil. If you use fresh oil it is very likely to bind later and make removal a bear of a job.
Drop cloths! Highly recommend. I usually put down something impermeable like plastic or a tarp, and then top it with something absorbent, like a canvas painters drop cloth or some old cardboard. It'll soak up spills, and keep them from bleeding through onto the driveway. Thanks for the video!
You can buy drop clothes with plastic on the backside of it. They are meant for stains not able to soak through and I’m sure it would work for motor oral
I do have suggestion what I do with filter. I just use punch , screwdriver will work too and make the hole on bottom of the filter and drain it. It is less messy when you take it out. And I always fill the new filter with the oil.
@@CzWill Not sure what you mean by damage do the threads ? But if you mean thread holding filter on the engine no you don't make any damage to it just make hole on the bottom of the filter. You will need very long tool to reach the thread,
Buy from Walmart , if not autozone and orrylies will price match, thanks for the video i took mine in today they put 15w-40 though . I spent about 2.5 hours of my life there with appointment , doing it myself from now on
Nice job. I have been buying Rotella T6 at Walmart anytime it is available as there is a shortage. Even 15W-40 is fine for summer heat as the 5W-40 is more scarce but I buy both. I change mine every 2-3 months as I drive a lot. I would suggest a funnel when pouring old oil into the gallon jugs as I would definitely spill that. :)
@@mcmahansgarage I don't normally shop at Wally World too much but they do have the best price on Rotella when it is in stock. My suggestion is that you order it online and they will deliver it to your house for free. It has been super easy as long as it is in stock at the local store.
Very helpful video I just bought my self an f250 like yours but 21 model and was curious on how bad an oil change would be on a diesel it's my first diesel
Good video. I have a 2023 F-250 and manual says 15 quarts but I've seen a couple other videos like yours that says it's really only 13. Haven't done a oil change yet.
I’m wondering if this would void your 100k engine warranty? Anyone know if Ford can/ will tell you changing your own oil voids warranty? I had one Ford salesman tell me just to buy OEM oil, filters. However, this seems risky to warranty. Anyone else know?
You just want to document your oil changes if you don’t do it at the dealer. It’s not that hard to tell if oil has been changed regularly in the event of an engine failure.
Question for anyone or the poster of the video, on some diesels there’s 2 oil filters usually is this not the case for the 2022 ford f250 and should I replace the air filter as well for each oil change? I’m a diesel newbie and want to know as much as I can about my truck!
Never have. Probably should start because I always pre soak dirt bike oil filters. I do believe if you go based off the manual it says fill the oil filter. All it's really for is that couple seconds when you start and it bone dry.
@@mcmahansgarage no need to prefill a oil filter! I have a 2006 Duramax bought new and never prefilled oil filter. Per my oil samples pulled on a regular basis(every 5000 miles) my engine shows almost no sign metal to be concerned about. Also I was a heavy diesel mechanic for a class 1 railroad and never pre oiled an engine unless it just had a complete overhaul.
Back in the day we used empty gallon milk jugs, and never did we change it 🔥 hot. It would be nice to fit a bucket under there like that, but I'd still put it on ramps since the oil would go back. I would be concerned about the oil filter being damaged. Damn fine truck however.
I always buy all my oils at walmart. You save a lot vs auto parts stores. Good job on the oil change
Thanks man hopefully it was helpful or at least entertaining

Wow good to know. Thank you
I've been using new oil on my oil filters all my life! I can't say that I ever had one stick!
I agree, I own a mobil1 lube, was in that pit for 3 years doing oil changes , lil old oil on the new filter get you just right !

Great video. I change over to schaffer 5-40 T5 and T6 has not change in 20 years. Just poke a hole in the filter to make life easy
Thanks man I'm going to try that next time for sure

Exactly what I thought it was going to be on my '22 6.7, going to be doing this tomorrow, thanks.
Good luck

I've seen people puncture the bottom of the filter with a screwdriver to let it drain before removing it.
Yeah that actually works great but I'm always scared to hit the threads
A lot easier than the ram huh, without the brace sitting right under the filter. I like to use those fumoto oil drain valves.
The Ram sucked! I would put a 1 gallon bag over the filter when taking it out so I didn't get all over my front axel. Sooooo much easier on a Ford.

I’m about to change my oil and was wondering the same thing. 13 or 15 for the 2023 F250?
Back in Feb had my oil changed at the dealer. It’s 13 quarts according to the invoice.
Great, informative, funny, entertaining vid man ... good stuff!
Thanks friend
Awesome video
Thank you
I always spray around the filter with brake cleaner but I’m clean freak. I hate seeing oil run down the side of the filter

Just my 2 cents but a fella should fill the filter with good oil before you put it on that way you decrease your dry start on your first start
Good call. Thank you
Torque spec on drain plug?
Good and tight lol

I only know of the one filter. As for your air filter I would change that every oil change but also depends on how dirty yours gets.
Cardboard, protective glasses, and two gloves are your friend.
Amen brother
what about full synthetic oil...
If you can find T6 I would buy as many as you can because I can never find it

No fuel filters?

That is the longest fucking dipstick I have ever seen 😂 my kw isn’t even that big
Yeah it's pretty ridiculous lol
I sure hope they create something called a lift one day
As in lift kit or shop lift?
Well these trucks sit high enough that you really don’t need one and a lift is very expensive so no need to use a lift

Wait until it's not so hot. Jack the truck up few inches, and what about when you drop the bolt into the bucket.
Easy just use a magnet to pull it out

How did you manage to get it to drain into a milk jug?
Cut out enough of a hole, and not drink the night before so your hands aren't shaking too much.
Wrong oil
Get rid of the Rotella and go with something different and you will get better fuel mileage!
How?
No idea the exact reason how but I have had the results in a ford, chevy and dodge disease.
the cost of owning a diesel ....
Worth it
