• Duran Duran - The Wild...
The official Duran Duran video for "The Wild Boys" from 1984's ARENA. Directed by Russell Mulcahy.
Lyrics:
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild, wild, boys, boys
The wild boys are calling
On their way back from the fire
In August moon's surrender to
A dust cloud on the rise
Wild boys fallen far from glory
Reckless and so hungered
On the razors edge you trail
Because there's murder by the roadside
In a sore afraid new world
They tried to break us
Looks like they'll try again
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always shine
You got sirens for a welcome
There's bloodstain for your pain
And your telephone been ringing
While you're dancing in the rain
Wild boys wonder where is glory
Where is all you angels
Now the figureheads of have fell
And lovers war with arrows
Over secrets they could tell
They tried to tame you looks like they'll try again
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always shine
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always
Wild boys - เพลง
Fun fact. During shooting the windmill got stuck with him underwater. They had to give him a tube to breathe from while they fixed it.
Simon had another close call in a boating accident as well.
I was coming here to say just that. I had to deal with my bestie having a breakdown when she heatd about that. Made Simon my favorite after that.
He nearly drown when it got stuck
@@Metalphysicalpodcast His yacht capsized and he had to escape. People magazine did a big story on it at the time.
actually, the windmill incident was overblown. He was never in any danger. in fact - it was set up so that only his hair and forehead were only ever under water, if you look closely you can see this in the video. His nose and mouth stayed above the water line at all times (most likely for insurance / safety reasons). The boating accident aboard his boat "Drum" was a very dangerous situation that has been "under stated".
When Simon LeBon sings, you know it’s him. And John Taylor and that bass....every time.
In 1984 duran duran were the biggest band on planet earth.
They were refered to as the Fab5
To date they have sold 100,000000 records and as of 2022 finally been inducted into the rock and roll Hall of fame
Well done boys

Great post 👍
over 150,000,000 albums at this point
One of the best songs of Duran Duran and just a great music video from an MTv era when they still played music….
'A View To A Kill ' is another banger by Duran Duran. Written for the James Bond movie of the same name.
Check it out 👍
Great song,crap film!!!!
their recent album had a great song called "Wing" that sounded very much like a bond theme...
there's a fan-made video of it using clips from all the Bond opening title sequences. The thumbnail looks like an official Duran video.
Check it out
I taped Simon in 1984 talking about making the Wild Boys video and hinting about the upcoming View To A Kill video. I also have a clip from 1985 where the DJ says View To A Kill is Number One for the second week running.
I was born 98' and I am so happy for my fathers fucking great taste in music. He and my mom lived in Berlin during the 80s and everything I listen to is approved by them. The first time I heard this song was in the car. Maybe 5 years old. I vibed so hard. I still remember it
The video - by Russell Mulcahy - is like a cross between an Ausploitation film and an 80's sequel to Barbarella (which is were Duran Duran got their name from)
Russell Mulcahy did a real Who Is Who of 80's pop videos and a few mostly "B Movies" quite a few of which I really like (highlights for me are Highlander and Resident Evil : Extinction)
Amazing tune and just some info on that windmill prop. During filming the windmill actually stopped/broke down with Simon strapped to it and dangerously had him underwater when it jammed. They had to quickly get to his rescue so as not to drown. Simon also cheated death when his high performance Sailboat capsized and he was upside down in it struggling to get out and almost totally drowned. It was during one of those sailing competitions races. So twice, water almost claimed his life. I believe now he also is into flying those 3d Acrobatic Stunt Planes. Quite the thrill seeker.
And yes Duran Duran were the innovator’s when it came to the music videos. Total artists. The true pioneers of video music tech.
9:30!lol!This moment Simon was really terryfied cause he hadn't been warned about this fake monster's 'biting attempt' right behind him.(Had seen a video at the time about the making of this expensive video production and how some shots were done.)So his terror was real and his reaction was natural and of course everyone laughed after this!
I love your reaction, as a teenage girl growing up in 80s I was in ♥with Duran Duran to such an extent you could not see my walls for posters 🤣
The director originally wanted to make a “Lord of the Flies” movie so spent a year working on production notes. When he couldn’t get the rights to the movie, he worked with the band to make this long form video.
The Movie he was trying to make wasn’t Lord of the Flies. It was The Wild Boys based on a book by William Burroughs. The movie fell through so they got to still use the sets and costumes for the video.
I especially love the dancing...
This video was supposed to be a movie. there was a book called the wild boys that Russell Mulcahy bought the rights for (Russell is the video director for many of DD's videos and was a pioneer of music vids in the 80's). Outside of music videos, he's also pretty well known for directing the cult classic, Highlander. DD knew about this wild boys purchase through their relationship with Russell and wanted to do the soundtrack for the movie. The song was written for that purpose, but the movie deal fell through... so they created this video as a mini version of what the movie would have been like.
Great review 👏
In 1984 this video cost a mouthwatering £1000000
The most expensive video ever made at the time.
For the greatest ever video.
When this song came out, honestly all of us female fans probably thought wth is this?? It’s a great song and video, but crazy compared to their stuff before… Except.. you know how you love that bass? Yah! That very talented bass player was THE most gorgeous man to walk Planet Earth back then! They were all sexy and gorgeous.. but John Taylor was OTHERWORLDLY beautiful!! His beauty was unparalleled. And much to the thrill of all his female fans.. he was the one strapped to the car!!! 😁Mmmm😊❤
Duran Duran always put out awesome videos. As soon as Simon started singing the words spilled right out of my mouth too.
My favorite song and video of theirs was... Reflex.
Duran Duran who were, incidentally named after the arch nemesis of Barbarella in the comics and film of the same name. Warboys (Wildboys) has that Mad Max feel to it, so much so that they were brought to life in Mad Max - Fury Road as only the Aussies can do. The robotic head was truly innovative for 1984 and impressed a lot of people at the time. A classic of it's time.........WARBOYZ!!!!!
If you guys reacted to 2 DD videos every day, I would be happy to watch y’all for the next 15 years! 😅
One of the best bands ever.
They have 2022 tour dates left. I saw them in 84and 86!
Story goes that the windmill stopped working while le- bon was underwater and he had a lucky escape.
True
You cannot imagine how big a band Duran Duran was over the years at that time. Really really huge.
There is a longer version of the video with a monster with a long tongue that used to scare me...😅 If I remember you can see the long video on Duran Duran's crazy concert movie called 'Arena' that's based on this video. I was never a huge fan of the song but the video is super cool. Simon Le Bon, DD's singer, used to be a drama student so he was good at acting on their videos. I was a huge Simon fan when I was a teenager and still love DD's music.
Love the long version too
At last! Wild Boys.
I grew up with Duran Duran. This was the top of their experimental videos. Of course nothing could be so perfect without the gorgeous voice of Simon Le Bon. What can be done after this?
Simon has said that he sang this song in too high a key for himself but he sang it that way because he wanted to sound like his voice was bleeding!
The 80s were absolutely lit. 🤘
At the time was most expensive video made.
Andy Taylor (guitarist) has said in an interview of which i have among 15 dvd's that the video cost over £1million which in those days was off the chart expensive but oh so worth it.
This was one if my fav songs in the 80ies. Fantastic video - thaaanks. Still love it 😍 Can you believe that this song is nesrly 40 years old?
This video used to freak me out when I was younger - and Simon was lucky to make it out of this alive. Great song though. This, the Reflex, and a View to a Kill are my favourites. The video is super cool - with a real James Bond addition.
This song is AWESOME live! Was one of the highlights of their concert. Soooooo much heavier and pounding!
This also part of a larger video called Arena, where Doctor Duran Duran (a character from the movie Barbarella) comes back from exile and sees this band carrying his name and wants to take them out. So Arena is part concert and part story. The wild boys sequence is actually longer and was shot to the extended remix.
This song was for a movie based on the book The Wild Boys but it wound up not being made so the director decided to use his money to make the video for this song instead.
It wasn't Russell Mulchay's money. It was Duran Duran's record label who paid for the video in which Duran Duran had to pay back. John Taylor talks about the video and cost concerns in a Billboard Magazine interview: "The video’s cost “caused a lot of concern, let’s put it mildly. However, at that point in the band’s career, it’s hard to - sometimes it’s hard to understand, even oneself, how … that kind of money could be spent on something as ephemeral as a music video. … It’s very difficult to put an immediate sort of value on [it]. At that point in our careers, we needed something lavish. We needed something experimental. We needed something extraordinary. And we got it.” It was a concern because it was the most expensive video made at the time and most especially a concern because it was EMI Records who fronted the cost that Duran Duran had to pay back from their record sales.
And after this…boys are back in town😉
At 7:13 you say how AWESOME this video is! I'm thinking, you haven't seen ANYTHING yet 😂 I adore you 2 ❤️❤️Your reactions are so honest, energetic 🔥 ❤️
Little Richard was a huge influence for many musicians and singers right up to his passing. A incredible entertainer, and quite flamboyant. He became a Reverend. Amazing. ✌️❤️
Im Met mexican fan since 1986...!! I love the Mets, and I love Duran Duran! hugs from Monterrey, México!
William S Burroughs wrote the book of the same name. Russell Mulcahy got the film rights. Simon read the book and asked Russell about doing a song, inspired by it. Russell agreed with the proviso that he do the video as a "proof of concept" for the film he intended to make but, thus far, has not.
there is a few documenteries , with members of duran , putting on the original master tapes and breaking down the channels to hear the details
The best DD song, their "metal" song!
Union of the Snake would be a vid you love too!
Ey muchachos, soy colombiano y los sigo desde Italia, saludos
The look of the video was heavily influenced by the movie ‘Mad Max 2’ (or ‘Road Warrior’ in the US) which came out a few years earlier, also being directed by an Aussie, Russell Mulcahy, who did the cult classic ‘Razorback’ (seek it out and watch it, a horror film about a giant Boar, good popcorn fun!), and the big hit ‘Highlander’. So it was very much of the moment and uber-cool. It’s actually the only studio song on their excellent live album ‘Arena’.
Camerawork ---- AMAZING!
Hard to pick, but this is my favourite Duran Duran track.
I was 9 or 10 when it came out and it looks like an horror movie and kinda afraid back then. But the song, DD, BRITS in the 80's, the bests!!!
This was of course the MTV generation of videos where a video could mean world wide sales , it was also the time of mad max . Which clearly inspired this .
wrong ,not mad max,it was this video and many dd video director russell mulhcahys dream to make hole long film in late1970
@@timotapiolehtonen6743 try that again coherent English sentences .
As per comment bellow, Simon Le Bon also got stuck under his Yacht Drum (i think around about 86/87) and also nearly died then as well.
If ever a song and a video just meshed together better than this - I'm not aware of it!
Watch it and listen to it all the way through, then the commentary.
You guys are a gorgeous couple!
THE masters of videos!!! 🤘
I enjoy watching you with your reviews brilliant awesome amazing watch Union of the snake 👍🐍 a simplier video to wild boys!!!! Awesome amazing track 😂☺️
This rocks.... but my girlfriend got tickets to see them in Toronto Canada, and they played it better in 2022 than they did in 1984.
I taped Simon in 1984 from the radio talking about the making of this video. I plan to upload it hopefully soon.
THIS WHOLE ALBUM KICKS
Omg!!! That brought back Alot of memories. In my teens I was a huge Duran Duran fan. Had everyone of their albums. Yes. LPs. I knew every single song.
Thank you very much.
Love you both. Hope you're staying safe with the hurricane brewing out in the Gulf of Mexico.
You should check out their latest album, Future Past!
Legendary songs this and Ordinary World guyZ !
Tantos exitos desta banda nos fabulosos anos 80
You should watch the Wilder than Wild Boys remix. It's taken from the Arena film and it's longer. It's what started my obsession with this world and it's characters.
A must is RIO and SAVE A PRAYER. Amazing Songs!
This video brings a kind of Mad Max vibe
The Wild Boys music video was based on a book that director Russell Mulcahy wanted to make a movie of. Mulcahy meant the video to be a teaser for the movie that never got made.
🇬🇧Proudly made in Birmingham,UK🇬🇧
And they have so Great song for James Bond movie A View to A kill " please Listen this Song to!
" Rub The Lipstick Off My Teeth " was a big hit for Bobby Mollar and the Cuspids in 1965 !
This was the most expensive video produced at the time it came out.
From the original movies MAD MAX with Mel Gibson
Check out Duran Duran Live from London they do a killer live version of this song.
I think my fav DD song is A View to a Kill
After the second chorus it's not a guitar what comes in, it's a slapping bass guitar. 😉
I had the same Mets tape.
oK I'M AUSTRALIAN AND RUSSEL MULCHAY WAS FAMOUS FOR HIS DURAN VIDEOS. HE'S AUSTRALIAN. THE SONG IS BASED ON A WILLIAM BURROUGHS BOOK ANS SIMON LE BON NEARLY DROWNED ON THE WINDMILL. JUST SOME HISTORY FOR YA. LOVE UR REACTIONS
Duran Duran & Clive Barker
If it’s bass you want to hear from Duran Duran, Rio is a masterpiece. Highly recommend giving it a listen
You have to review Rio 😀
try the song
“all she wants is”
There's a rumour that le Bon "almost" drowned during the filming
Produced by Nile Rodgers of Chic.
Mirco Cro Cop!!!
1984
@4:25 vid really starts - like why on earth should people wait 5 minutes before a vid starts? LOL
Wild boys was produced by the Bernard edwards (Chic)
You got the band "Chic" right for Bernard Edwards but it was Nile Rodgers who produced The Wild Boys. Bernard Edwards produced "A View To A Kill" and The Power Station. Rodgers went on to produce the Duran Duran's Notorious album and worked with Duran Duran again later.
@@billw715
I stand corrected on wild boys.
👍
@@andyg4082 🙂
Correction, Matt...Duran Duran's videos are impressing regardless of the time period, cinematic and real effects, not the green screen crap of the last 20 years!
inspired by the mad max movies
Is like the mad Max movies don't you think?
ya gotta try the unedited video..its over 8 mins
If I still had hair, it would be styled like 80s Simon Le Bon...just saying!
The singer almost died drowned filming this video...
Id like to take you on a DD deep dive yet I’m in love W your girl and you’re a keeper too;) How do I get you financial bucks???
I do want to do which band would have ripped the lipstick off your teeth hahaha. It is for Mad Max
Fun Fact: this song and video was inspired by the film DUNE
Incorrect fact mate. 🙂Duran Duran's The Wild Boys single and video was released in October 1984. Dune, the film, was released two months later in December 1984. The Video was inspired by William S. Burroughs' book The Wild Boys, which the director of the video, Russell Mulcahy, was going to make a film adaptation. It never happened. Mulcahy made Highlander instead released in 1986.
the unedited version is better
Brummies huh
Not to be mean. Please cover up. Wear better concealed tops. Be aware a 12 year old could be watching your channel.
Nope Never liked the Mets....Watch the longer version of this video
It was the worst song ever it’s about being gay silly Billy‘s my gosh. Newsflash at least two or three members are gay especially Simon Le Bon. When he sings boyyyyzzz it makes me cringe…. the sound is dumb and cryptic. I also believe he has had sexual relations with younger people which is just the most disgusting thing about this band- it’s very sad. But y’all keep on the delusional taste w this song
😂😂😂you couldn’t be more wrong! LMAO!! you’re just jealous! NONE of them were or are gay (and who cares if they were but they weren’t) it’s a fact they weren’t. AND They never knowingly hooked up with underaged girls. Although millions of girls would’ve jumped at the chance! It was the 80s dude! They were the hottest biggest band in the world!! 💥
