circa 1995, cover of grand master flash's sing they got panned for in a covers album. i really like this version, they show versitility. and if i'm not mistaken they have the original artist themselves on this track with them, so they must have approved. it rocks, albeit it is a song about cocaine lol

Elkton Maryland...in one of Weirdest places ever...Have home on 2 acre lot in the middle of Amish farms ( Awesome) BUT live 5 miles from I-95...&& about 1-2 hours from Philly ,Baltimore or Wash D.C....Have Mostly Best...nice country living...smell of horse shit better than smokestack chemicals...BUT...Lately...few F**ked up city shit...worst lately..2 road ragers got off I-95 Hit Amish Buggy..all people OK...Horse had to be shot...Hope you don't mind Old LaDy's Overshare !! Duran Duran has always been awesome
So I have to say as fun as this was, the best cover they did for me and the original artist has said it is the best rendition of his song was Lou Reed’s Perfect Day. Duran Duran just hit it out of the park with that one!
Warren Cuccurullo´s guitarsolo is brilliant!
D2 released an album of cover in the late 90s called Thank You. It was panned by "critics," but I love it. Perfect Day is one of my all time songs, whether Lou Reed or D2! They've worked this into some live performances this year.

It's disappointing how one bad song choice made critics pan the whole album! If they hadn't covered '911 is a Joke', it probably would have been better received.

Yes, that is GMF & Melle Mel on the track & video, they liked the DD version & were a lil' surprised & honored DD did it. Great live, great collab. The album was annihilated by critics, but these guys loved it & Lou Reed said DDs' version of "Perfect Day" was, in some ways, better than his! Duran, esp Simons' vocals, made it sound like he meant it to be heard. I shed a tear when I saw that interview ❤🎶

One thing Duran Duran has never had trouble with it is garnering the respect of other musicians and artists. They have worked with a varied number of producers and artists for two main reasons. First, they have served as an inspiration for many people who consider it an honor to collaborate with them and second, because they constantly keep a finger on the pulse of more recent or modern music. They know exactly who is creating what, and they themselves still get inspired by what is new and exciting in the music world. I find it so ironic that in all the years they were slammed and considered just pretty faces with no talent, they were constantly alligning themselves with some of the best talent out there. John particularly loves to smooze and meet other people in the industry to set up collaborations. A View To A Kill and their entire relationship with Nile Rodgers probably wouldn't exist if it were not for JT. 😂

The original song is called Cavern by New York band Liquid Liquid. Melle Mel & Sylvia Robinson plagiarized Cavern & wrote their version of the song then performed by Grandmaster & Melle Mel. Liquid Liquid's record label, 99 Records, sued Melle Mel's record label, Sugar Hill, & won in litigation for copyright infringement.

Met Nick and Simon then John a few years later. Simon is my favorite but he is either great or a real jerk. Nick was the sweetest.
They play this during their tour and fans are getting tired of it BUT I have to admit, it is so fun live! They blow the roof off with this one because you can’t help but get into it.
"Fans" are getting tired of it? I've never encountered "fans" getting tired of this song. In fact, from the shows I've gone to, it gets the crowd going. This song is one of their staples of their shows despite being a cover & has been since the mid-90s.

@@aimeebella1 People often asking is not representative of "all fans." Perhaps "some" fans are asking & I doubt that "some" fans asking are not more than a handful or even enough to like a drop in the ocean to matter.
In addition, as I have said since going to Duran Duran shows (for each album since Seven and the Ragged Tiger) when White Lines is played, the crowd becomes energized & even more lively during this song. You can see the vibrancy in the audience when they play this song live. You can see it on the live performances on TH-cam.
Therefore, a few people who you see not wanting to hear White Lines live is a small minority. It would take the thousands who are at the shows appreciating the song being played to state otherwise for it to even begin to matter.

Every time the setlist came out for a show and White Lines was on it, there were plenty of fans that wished they would play an original song rather than always resorting to that same song over the years. You can still be a fan and have a preference.

There is nothing in my post that states one can't be a fan & one can't have a preference. Nor is there anything in my reply that states that you didn't say DD blows the roof off with White Lines live. I am a fan and I have preferences. There are other DD fans and they have their preferences, and there are non-fans & they even have their own preferences. This is ubiquitous & it is human nature to have one's own preferences.
I am just replying to this statement of yours and nothing else: "They play this (White Lines) during their tour and fans are getting tired of it." Of course there will be fans who don't want to hear White Lines live just like some fans would rather hear Friends of Mine and New Religion over The Wild Boys or Notorious. We all have preferences & I said that I've never encountered it and fans, more accurately speaking, "some fans" not wanting to hear it is a drop in the ocean compared to the response by the audience to White Lines at their shows.
