- This video is a comparison between different brands of small stainless steel insulated food jars. An insulated food jar is designed to keep things hot for 6 to 12 hours, for people who want to bring something hot to eat at lunchtime after they heat it up in the morning. An insulated food jar can also keep things cold as well. There are many different sizes of stainless steel vacuum insulated food jar available, and generally speaking, the bigger ones are more efficient than the smaller ones, but the smaller ones are perfect to fit in a lunchbox along with other food. For this reason, small to medium sized vacuum insulated food jars are very popular for people who like to eat soup or other hot foods at lunchtime. in this video, we look at food jars, made by Stanley, thermos, and Ozark Trail, the Walmart brand. These food jars are between 16 and 18 ounces, which is perfect for a can of chili or soup. I used a thermometer to measure the temperature loss of food in these food jars over the span of eight hours. When you are choosing a food jar to bring hot food to lunch with you, you need to consider how well it retains heat, but also how pleasant it is to eat out of. In this video, we look at a Thermos food jar with a narrow mouth, and then the Ozark Trail food jar with the medium size mouth, and the Stanley Adventure To Go insulated food jar with a wide mouth. A narrow mouth food jar retains heat better, but it’s easier to eat out of a widemouth food jar with a spoon.
Here’s where you can buy a 16 ounce thermos insulated food jar like the one in the video.

From the USDA: Information. Once the food is cooked or reheated, it should be held hot, at or above 140 °F(60 °C). This was a great demonstration. Thank you for taking the time to put this together.
You’re welcome. That makes sense. You don’t want it to get cold and start to get rotten.
You say this on all his videos
Just bought 2 of the 47 oz Thermos ones at Target on sale for $17.73/each including tax. Glad to see that they are the clear winner. Use the classic coffee Thermos daily and and am very happy with it's heat retention after several hours. Thanks for posting.
You’re welcome
That surprises me. I haven't had any luck with Thermos, but I have used them mostly for coffee. Thanks!
They’re making really good products. I think they’ve stepped their game up a lot since all of these other manufacturers have started trying to steal their business.
@@hoohoohoblin lol, that would do it. Have you done a coffee travel mug comparison that I could check out?
Thanks for doing the side-by-side comparison. Very enlightening.
Glad you liked it!
This is exactly the type of video I needed. Thnaks for making it!
I absolutely love your scientific approach here. Beautiful work
Thank you! I try to be as scientific as possible with my reviews.
ha, was just about to buy all these to do this exact test, so Im glad I found this video. Currently use the zojirushi 16.9oz jars but they just dont keep food warm long enough... sucks because 16oz is just a tad too small and 24oz is too big, wish there was a 20oz option
I’m glad I could help.
I wonder if you had a Stanley with the steel lid like they make on a different model would have stayed hotter, since the other two you tested has the steel lid. Steel lid may offer the other two better insulation advantage. Loyal to Stanley, guess I'am a fan boy and never had an issue with their products lol.
It definitely helps if there are two separate lids. The ones that are designed with a cup for a lid that goes over a plastic stopper have more insulating power.
Thank you. Which one of them is lighter in weight?
I made yogurt in the Thermos. When storing food heat with hot water for 10 Min then add food. 🐊
Thank you for this! I'll be sticking with the Thermos.
You’re welcome
Best review out there. Thank you!
You’re welcome
Did you preheat the food jars with hot water for 15 mins with the top closed?
I didn’t. That’s definitely the way to do it if you want it to stay really hot for a long time.
I put soup in my Stanley yesterday and could not get the lid off. I like that one with the pressure release button
Informative - thank you!
You're welcome!
The thermos says 16 oz /0,47 L st the bottom
works out i ended up over a 40 year span having a number of stanly “canteens”. the oldest one being for my coffee. it has seen a good million miles.
but i do have a number of the walmart labeled tall cops, they work great ice not melted over night. burn your tong after 100 miles( two hrs) with no preheat. heck i have even seen them for sale at a michele's store fir only $7.00USD. big name up to $89.99USD. i paid under $10.USD for mine.
but my stanly thermos is going strong.
Yes. I really like my Stanley products as well, but Walmart makes some very low priced insulated jars and canteens that work great as well.
What's the name of the giant Stanley jar?
There’s a link in the description
Great video thank you!
You’re welcome
@3:46 as an american i have no idea what this device is
Merci pour cette vidéo
You’re welcome
👍
Thanks!
The only important thing is cleaning these and keeping them, sanitary......Won't buy one until videos covering how to clean one are up
Dude it’s not rocket science. Just hand wash them to be safe.
Yea please don't buy if you have zero idea of how to clean these complicated contraptions. Don't want you to be dead from the lack of sanitation and knowledge.

If you use it everyday actually you don’t need to clean it.Today’s taste will diffuse into tomorrows’ It’s called as Fusion Cuisine 😅

So.... you have proved once and for all.... they hype behind stanley is not warranted.
It depends on which Stanley product you buy. All of these manufacturers have mastered building metal insulated jars, so now it’s a marketing war. Thermos has always been great. I really liked the Stanley products that they had a few years ago, and I still do, but they’ve cranked up the prices a lot since they became a fad item. I watched a few TH-cam videos on the Stanley cup with a Handel phenomenon, and it’s genius. They went from a $70 million company to 700 million a year. They found a target market of people with small hands who need a big cup with a handle who are willing to pay a lot for a mug, and also want to buy a whole bunch of different colors. None of the other manufacturers thought of marketing to women like that.
@@hoohoohoblin Yeh.... They are the Subaru Forester of cups now..... LOL
Thermos products are soooo damn good 🎉🎉🎉
True!
I like the thermos besr.
Stanley was at 147.3 😂 not that it matters I’m going for the thermos 🎉
I only use Thermos I have 6 different types they are the best
Their stuff is always good. It was good when I was a little kid, and it was all made out of plastic, and their new products are even better.
