What a true gentleman. His time on Earth made us that much richer for him among Us, and when he left us, there was no one who could take his place to fill that void. Jonathan Frid created a high watermark through his craft that has no equal
there will never be another Dark Shadows soap opera on every day; it and Jonathan have left a permanent mark that no one will ever be able to erase. RIP Jonathan and God Bless
My sister and I joined this Dark Shadows "Vampire club" and received this record as an extra. We also received an autographed 8 x 10 photo, which I still have. This was in 1969!
Dark Shadows was and still is an unique show and Mr Frid made it extra special. I would have loved to see him performing on stage. I also would of loved to see Grayson Hall on stage.
He had fine diction, a practiced elocution that comes from acting on stage -- he would speak so theater-going audiences could understand him. I once heard him speaking casually, and was amazed at how slurred and indistinct his speech was.
He was such a sweet & beautiful man in real life. He loved doing this series. And, he said before passing away, how blessed he felt to have a cameo role in Tim Burton's 2012 "Dark Shadows" movie. Although he was very ill, and would pass away not too long after, he thought it was an honor. I raced home from school every single day to watch "Dark Shadows". Johnathan Frid was definitely one of a kind.
I can't believe i missed all the extras like the vampire club and all of the get togethers. I would have loved to meet Joan and Jonathan and Louis and especially my crush Lara Parker 💕 💖
Dear Hearts: I watched Dark Shadows faithfully every day after coming home from high school. I was mesmerized by Barnabas Collins, adored Victoria Winters. This 45 is a treasure. Thank you for sharing this. Jonathan Frid was a gentleman....that quality in itself attracts me to a man. So many people today just aren't courteous anymore and I find that so sad. All Love
That last image of him is especially heartbreaking. I've heard this elsewhere on the Internet, at a slightly slower speed which made him sound almost world-weary and terribly sad--like Barnabas, himself. This, although much brighter because of the change in speed, in still quite stirring. His beautiful voice remains haunting. What a treasure you have found and how marvelous it is that you have chosen to share it with us, his fans.
As a huge fan for 30 years...age 8 to 38 I thought I had seen and heard everything related to the show. This was a brand new treat and thank you for sharing it with us!
Linda, I shared it with several Jonathan Frid's fans because I know they'll be delighted with it you to find! I say you what I said in my Facebook wall: It's like Jonathan talked to us, their fans, although time and distance. Thanks, love, Silvia
Thanks for sharing that with everyone. Dark Shadows aired before I was born, but I most recently discovered it online. I am totally addicted to the show, and mesmerized by Jonathan Frid. I just have to find the Dark Shadows set! He did such a wonderful job in his roll as Barnabas Collins. His voice is so soothing, and romantic. (sigh). He will be missed.
Yes, I wondered that, too, after listening to your 45. That is odd; perhaps they wanted him to sound much more sad and tragic? That was the impression I got from listening to that other rendition and it, in turn, made me sad for him. I am glad to have the record set straight; thanks, again for presenting this...as it was meant to be heard.
He also hated his first year on the show. He was very critical of his acting and his nervousness during that first year of adjusting to doing a TV show with no retakes , no do overs but his nervousness and uncertainty totally worked for his character. He was critical of his vampire bite scenes. He said he always felt ridiculous doing them.
@@lindalcoomes OH I THINK HE KNEW...IF U LOOK BACK AND DO SOME RESEARCH FROM OLD INTERVIEWS AND SUCH U CAN SEE DURING THE TIME HE WAS ON D.S HE HAD KIND OF A RADIANT GLOWING ABOUT HIM...I WAS FORTUNATE TO GROW UP IN THE 60s AND 70s,AND REMEMBER THESE HAPPENINGS VERY WELL!
Yes Mr. Frid knew how much he was loved and appreciated but he never totally understood why. He did not get it. To him, he said it was just another acting role he did, one of so many he had done in his life time. Sadly , very sadly, Mr. Frid had to also put up with many very obsessive and possessive teenage fans and ladies . They fell in love with his character and thought that Frid was the same and his Barnabas character. These obsessed fans would follow him home in a cab and tried to get into his building. He kept changing his phone number but they kept getting it. They also called up and bothered his relatives up in Canada which really annoyed him. Frid often said he was nothing at all like his TV character, he was very different but that many fans could not separate the actor from the character he played. At the conventions many fans would address him as 'Barnabas' and ask him dumb vampire questions or Barnabas questions as if he and his character were one in the same. SMH . Frid at the conventions also stated that he was not emotionally attached to the character and he did not care if another actor portrayed his character or not. Frid was always amazed and appreciative of the two thousand or more DS fans at the conventions. OT FYI and no, Mr. Frid never married and he never had any kids. He didnt want any and no, he never dated any of the actresses from the show. Some die-hard fans tried to make up some romantic gossip saying that he dated Kathryn L Scott . Ha, it's not true. Kathryn was engaged at the time and not attracted to Frid nor would he have dated her nor any of the ladies from the show.
It was produced for a national Dark Shadows Fan Club in late 1968. The Dark Shadows Vampire Fan Club, which offered a number of "Kits" for sale at that time, including membership card, photos, post cards, actor bios, a sheet of Frid stamps, a "Ghoul Pad" for writing on, which was also used at the DS studio, and this 45rpm record, which was offered if you spent a whopping ten bucks for all the "kits." The club was Dan Curtis approved, and an official way to blow your allowance on Dark Shadows goodies!
What a treasure this is! Hearing Jonathan's voice is soothing! He is very missed by us all! ~Janet in Canada

This is beautiful. Makes me kind of teary eyed.

I think this may be the most wonderful "Thank You" message I've ever heard...

This man is and always will be a classic. Love love love him!

I really enjoyed this personal message from Mr Frid
You're welcome :-)
I don't think he sounds sad, he was a contemplative man, thinking before he speaks.
A sincere Thank You from Jonathan Frid to his fans. 🦇
Thank you so very much for sharing this with all of us .
I miss him
I love that man
Hello Patricia! I also admire the videos you make and I have written to you sometime. I also was touched by the words: Goodbye, my friend.

He said later in life that he was glad he did the show. He looked back and said it was well written when at the time it aired he did not think so.
He also hated his first year on the show. He was very critical of his acting and his nervousness during that first year of adjusting to doing a TV show with no retakes , no do overs but his nervousness and uncertainty totally worked for his character. Super rare record
😭😭😭😭😭
I love him, I want to marry him.
+Marilyn Willett What woman wouldn't!
So do I!!!!!
I wonder if he knew how much he was adored! Probably no clue.

Question? Was there a year printed on this single, perhaps on the reverse side possibly 1969 or 1970 of when this was produced ?
I'd have to look to be sure.
It was produced for a national Dark Shadows Fan Club in late 1968.
