The person he interviewed was in my class in FIITJEE. Now he is in ECE, MAIT. I am in CSE, MSIT. But GSoC has pushed him much farther farther than me.
MAIT and MSIT are not even tier 3 colleges. They are tier 2.

I'm a GSoC 20 student developer, 2nd year IIT Patna. I tried GSoC in my 1st year but failed.
So moral of the story is to be consistent and "Work Hard, Play Hard".
How much time did it take to learn language and implement in open source? I have completed 80% c++ but no idea about open source and other stuff

@@zeidkazi3402 bhai there is nothing like 80% in computer language. Like other subjects even coding is an endless field. I would like to rather tell you that I had opted for computers in my 11th and 12th and I have therefore learnt a lot of python language and I didn't limit myself to just school course. I rather learnt a lot of new things which were totally out of syllabus. My teacher used to appreciate my level of knowledge in it still I can always find a lot of things which I don't know about in python. So learning just the basics of a computer language is not enough. And a bonus tip, always learn new things for your knowledge. Don't run behind getting good grades or getting selected for gsoc. Learn to become master of it.

@@kenadams9024 there are a lot of sources. You can watch advanced courses of python on coursera or udemy or any other of your choice, check out youtube for some videos that have something you haven't learned in python. Coding is also like maths, one might be knowing all the basics of the subject but that doesn't ensure that the person is an expert of that subject. So I would suggest not to run behind learning something new in python rather try making a lot of interesting projects. So while making the project you will have to think a lot for logic which will force you to learn new things in python.

Vivek hi this is anutosh here ,I am from iit Madras freshie ,I'll be trying for gsoc 2021 and I need some help .I went through Gsoc students guide and mostly I have understood everything and now I'm down to selecting organizations but I have a critical doubt
1)That when orgs release their Gsoc idea page in Jan how do I know which project is priority ?
2)Secondly a project can't be completed in 3 months so projects repeat right!? Like can I start working on an org's project which got selected this year thinking it will come again next year?
3)And thirdly do we ever come to know that ok out of 10 projects these are the 3 projects which will be there in Gsoc this year!?
Basically I understood what is contributing to an org but not to a project......

@@codingrelated1093 don't get into gsoc just for the sake of brand certification and money. You should and have to devote the time with organisation. It's not an exam where every body has to be and clear this exam to be a software engineer.
First of all gsoc is not an internship .
It's a programme where you will be with the org working for them
And yess don't think that you are working for Google. Your code or anything are not contributing in Google servers.
