Sir, dhoka usually treated as a pure veg item, we don't put onion or garlic in it, but must add some asafoetida.

I have learnt so much from you sir. However, here I would humbly differ. Like shukto, dhokar dalna is a purely vegetarian dish where no onion or garlic(rajasik/tamasik according to Hindu shastras) are used. This is a very popular item in bengal for shradh menu ,as well as, any puja lunch. So these dishes have to be purely vegetarian(sattvik).

When I made Dhoka dalna the dhoka absorbs the gravy very fast . Do we need to add dhoka just before serving ?
