Very sensible advice. Crate training is so important, and short times in the crate while you have to be out is the best way to start house training. May I add that, when I put my Chi in her crate, I spend a few moments holding and petting her, so she associates crate time with something loving and reassuring. Thanks for the info on your book....I will be looking for it on Amazon!

I love the common sense approach…I have three chihuahuas and at a year and a half they can be left most of the day in the greater part of the house with a pad set out in case they cannot hold it or I am delayed. They mostly can be left 5-8 hours without incident or damage. All three are the same age and I just couldn’t imagine them as solo pets.
My question is . . . do chihuahuas prefer Marshall amplifiers?
My dog gets so upset and shits on the couch or floor and he barks the whole time when we're gone 😭
i thought about getting a crate for my chihuahua, so she will stop peeing inside not on a pad while i go to work, but you just cant leave them in a crate for 8-9 hours that would be cruel. but it can help in the training or when you just leave short term. (since then she learned without a crate
My shih-chi tore a hole is in his soft side travel crate and escaped at 3 months old and ripped his nails off scratching to get out of his hard plastic crate . He’s a year old now , should I take him to a professional trainer that can train me ?
Wow i have a 2 year chihuahua with 2 adult cats and he doesnt do any damage at all in the house. He only goes to crate to sleep at night. Id say its all genetics and training.
I say no! Never leave a chihuahua alone. They may be small but they do damage! No doubt. Take your child with you. Put them in your pocket. And go!😂
Doesn't seem practical. There are many places that don't allow dogs. Crate training is a sensible and positive skill for any chihuahua.
