Hey, thank you so much for watching. I want your feedback what do you think about the new Boston Terrier Gift shop I created? bit.ly/BostonTerrierSocietyGiftShop if you like any items here is a 10% Discount Code - BOS10
Sancho stays home for 8 hours too, we got him when he was 8 weeks and trained him to stay alone gradually. He progressed from a play pen, to the kitchen, to the ground floor and now the full house, we have two cameras on when we leave and he doesn’t bark unless he hears either the mail or a delivery ringing the bell, he has a very set routine Monday to Friday that he really knows and follows
My Boston & my previous Boston both stayed home alone all day & never tore things up or got into trouble. I’m so glad you put the tip in about leaving the TV on; we always left ours on what we usually watched when home cause it made them feel as tho we were there. And yes Boston’s LOVE routine so stick to one as much as possible, ours always got upset when routine was interrupted. They are the Best Little Dogs EVER for anyone from Families to Seniors. Love my Boston!!!♥️
Thank you ! This was helpful..I'm getting my first boston and so excited. I may be gone for 5 or 6 hours a day with my job but my daughter will probly come visit during day. ❤
I love Boston’s!! Our Boston was great. She was quiet and didn’t fuss (we had neighbors listen at the door) lol. But we did leave the radio on for her. Best dog breed ever.
Trufa is 4 yo. She stays home without any problems. I always play fetch with her for at leats 10 min before leaving and always leave her kong (get the black one and go a size up, they are powerful chewers) filled with treats.
Hi I'm back 😅 just wonna say thanks for this I won't be getting a dog but bostens will definitely be in my mind in the future when I'm thinking about getting one. Thank you i subscribed 👌🏼👍🏼
I love your site you always have very useful info. Thank you for sharing . We just lost our boston at 7 years old and would like to start looking in a few months do you recommend any breeders or boston rescue places, we live in montana
Having two bostons also helps with time alone. They keep each other company. They usually just follow the sunny spots around the house. Leaving the tv on will also help with barking as it muffles activities outside so they aren't startled.
I would imagine most of us can't just come back home on a lunch break just to walk the dog. Had a Boston for 2 years now almost. No issues of any kind when left. Sure they look sad but literally nothing negative has happened even one time.
We have a soon-to-be 13 year old Miniature Schnauzer who has been a wonderful pet. She spent the night in bed with us since day one and would pounce on me, usually between 2 and 3 AM to let me know she needed to pee. It was winter, so it was comical, I'm sure, watching me trying to wrestle on a coat and NOT put her down....you know what would happen if I did. My wife was raised with Bostons and Scotties and is open to idea of a Boston in the future. It would be painful for us to repeat a breed....we used to have Cockers. Your routines sound pretty challenging and I wonder if we could handle them. Perhaps. Keep the great videos coming.
lol that would be rough with a midnight wake up lol. While my routine might not be for everyone you can always adapt it to your needs. Boston's are smart.
Emily and I would be away from Bella from 7:30 am till 5:30 pm and she was fine with it. You just need to make sure you are taking you Boston for a 5-10 min walk before you leave to help ensure you do not come home to a destroyed house. Boston’s need to be walked 30 to 60 min per day in total. I think anything longer than a normal work week might be hard on a Boston. You could always hire dog walkers to help.
@@claytonbonnie Yes they love everyone, young or old! But please never leave really young kids alone with them so they won’t hurt the Boston accidentally or they will then be afraid of kids. Always teach your kids how to treat your Boston so as not to hurt it & teach them to respect their Dog ( their food, their bed & when they are tired & ready to nap ). They will bond & love each other very much. 😊♥️
I think 4 hours is completely fine. You just want to either one create a safe place for them or crate train them. When Bella was younger we had to leave her alone for a while. Just be sure to take them out for a little exercise before you leave for long periods this little bit of exercise will help reduce the stress in them.
No Bella only barks at us lol. Boston’s are not known to be barkers. Here is some great information from 50 other Boston Ownerd that might help. www.bostonterriersociety.com/boston-owner-survey-one/
We had our Guy blocked into the Kitchen When he was 2 he had most of the house to himself. We take him for a 5 Mile walk in the morning before we go. He is usually alone 6-8 hours. He has a routine. Which I think is most important.
Probably not. Bella would jump baby gates. I’m not sure what a cyclone fence is but I would go for a foot higher personally. Bella was very determined though to jump it.
NO, I wouldn’t go for less than 5ft. to keep larger dogs from jumping it & also predators like coyotes. Never leave your Boston terrier outside in the yard alone for very long at a time and never without being watched by you or someone else that is dependable, bolsters do not handle the temperatures outside for long and the time they also sunburn easily and are also have a tendency to have allergies so no more than an hour outside is all they should have.
İ have to leave home at 8AM and come back at 18PM thats my working routine, is that too hard for my dog (that i want to have 😄) ? For the first year i can come home during lunch times but that’s will be little difficult for a life time... i am ready to give all my love to my dog but life is hard in my country and i have to work hard too ( i live in Turkey)
Hi mate, my boston is 6 months old and we are away from home for 12 hours a day, he is lovely fella. there is second dog 2 years old pomeranian and boston always terrorizing him , do not class him as a dog most likely a toy. When we are away from home , it is like murder scene , piss all over the place even on the bed , pillows , etc. we walk him twice a day but he doesnt piss or sh..t outside , he holds it until gets back home and than goes at it. Could you recommend how to battle this habbit as he is extremely close to give him to someone else. Thanks
@@BostonTerrierSociety I'm in Ireland, but he was in us with my wife, she couldn't handle all this pressure and gave him to other people, who are 24/7 at home. Sad, extremely sad.
Get a bit fed up of all these people talking nonsense me and my girlfriend work both have careers we have never ever had any problems with leaving him we are both out of the house Monday- Friday for 7-8 hours a day and scarfo our Boston is absolutely fine doesn’t cry just lounges around has a nap and gets excited when we come back.

Everything you've said is spot on. I've owned Boston Terriers for 30 years. They are wonderful 'fur babies'!
Thank you so much for the great feedback!!!

They are amazing dogs!
Mine stay home quite well. They have never gotten into trouble while I was away.
That is great! Do you do anything specific when you leave to help?
No, I just pet them a bit and tell them to be good babies. They have toys everywhere to keep them occupied

Would it be any help to have 2 dogs instead of just one? Would having another dog help with the separation anxiety?
Thank you!
Should I get a Boston I work all day?

Are pet sitters very expensive?
Planning on getting a Boston when I retire this year.
Your information is very helpful in my decision.
