    1. Eat fruit first thing in the morning
    2. Dont eat fruit after a meal
    3. Starches: pasta rice quinoa bread and potatoes squash should be eaten during lunch
    4. Dont combine starch and protein
    5. After lunch you can have protein eg for dinner: beans lentils
    6. Vegetables combine with everything
    7. Fats combine very well with starches eg avocado on toast .. and ok with protein
    8. Protein for dinner

    i have sinus congestion but i eat a whole foods, plant based diet. i started proper food combinations a few weeks ago, i now experience zero bloating and i am feeling overall great. This is complete truth, if you don't believe it, you must not have done it right. very great video, you are absolutely stunning my goodness. my only confusion are nuts proteins or fat category, regardless i used to make almond cheese and mix it with starches, and i removed that combo and no longer experience bloating, therefore i believe it falls more on the protein side of things. I thought chia was a protein, but i guess its more of a fat, good to know, i notice it was mixed with almonds in the picture, but ill try it plain. thanks mona

    Suzanne Somers promoted food combining years ago, she called it Somersizing. You can still find her old books used online. She had great recipes and info in them. Also Suzanne based this on the Montignac diet, which was from France.

    Technically speaking... squash, cucumber, tomatoes, green beans are just a few FRUITS that people think of as vegetables. So, that being the case, how does that impact food combining?
    I have not found any Registered Dietitians that say food will rot in your stomach. That is simply not true and not supported by research. Combining diet has shown to help individuals with weight loss...simply because they are being more mindful of their eating, which is key for any diet to be successful.
    Combing complex carbs with fats, proteins and fibrous vegetables can actually help those who have diabetes.
    Ultimately, before people jump on a fad diet bandwagon, they need to consult their doctor or see a legit registered dietician that knows their health history.

I was making breakfast smoothies with oats... but as you're not supposed to mix starches with fruits... I'm at a loss... I'm not sure if you mentioned or were trying to mention what I think is an important point: Sticking to one rich protein source in a meal and not mixing it with other ones!
    Eg. mixing up different types of fish or meat in one meal, or mixing different types of legumes in one meal.
    Even though I have done more bad food combining than good LOL, I find that it's better to keep things more simple or less organisms for the body to deal with from my experience.
    Maybe even what folks might forget to recognize is that legumes are a combination of starch and protein. Most of them seem to have more starch than protein according to the information out here today and myself just by looking at legumes and eating them, I definitely can say it has starch. And also according to info out here and just my thought on common sense: that in reality, every fruit and vegetable has some amount of protein, even just ever so slightly. So everything has protein because that's the synthesis for life aka DNA. Some fruit and veggies just tend to be water rich, that's why something that's not water rich might be considered to have more protein.

    This post seemed curiously out of line with what peoples' normal meals and diets consist of, so I went to look up food combining. There are proponents for this rule, there are also many that say this is a mere myth: 1. your stomach always releases ACID during digestion, regardless of whether you are eating carbs or protein. 2. your digestive systems produces ALL the enzymes for digesting protein, carbs and fats regardless at the same time. 3. humans are born to consume breast milk, which contains fat, protein and carbs.
    It's up to you what you believe, but I would say take everything with a pinch of salt.

    agreeing but also very greatly disagreeing with your theories here. It's all about portioning ! Don't be afraid to have a little starch with your protein at dinner. Can't believe your advising other wise because lets be honest, it's not realistic for most. I would agree in the sense to maybe have your larger serving of starch earlier in the day (like at lunch) but otherwise I am a firm believer in balancing foods throughout the day. *Although I did not move on to become a RD, I do have a degree in nutrition and dietetics.* For a healthy individual, limiting certain food groups to certain times of the day is unnecessary, although like I previously stated, if eating in bulkier portions (which is never recommended), then I would agree with you. I feel like this video should be more targeted toward those without a healthy gut.

    • @Simonthecat88
      @Simonthecat88 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think she delivered a very "short" version of food combining and dissociated diet. You can add the rule that you can have protein dominant meal (75% protein + 25% starch) and starch dominant meal (75% starch + 25% protein),
      and in that case it's quite realistic to do and can have some benefits healthwise. Anyway I recently got interested in that subject and nobody seems to perfectly agree on what to do precisely... In my case eating the dairy and fruits outside of the meals helped my gut a lot.

    • @user-pn4gq7sw1n
      @user-pn4gq7sw1n 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      You're right Renata! We should never mix carbs and fats! Contrary to what Dr. Mona suggests, these two combined create a vicious cycle of addictions and cause weight gain due to a surge of insulin and dopamine. Insulin is released when carbs are consumed, but insulin also promotes the storage of fats in a process called de novo lipogenesis. So essentially, some of those carbs will get used for energy while all the fats get stored. You did just provide the body with two rich energy sources after all!
      As for dopamine, that is released to encourage a 'rewarding' behaviour - this is why we feel so good binge eating on sugary creamy treats! Carbs and fats create addictions which inevitably cause weight gain and this cycle is so hard to break, so definitely avoid those lethal combos!

      Well remember not all fats are created equal. Like she says olives are fats, and a working example of a starch + fat meal as toast and avocado I'm sure toast + coconut oil as a meal would act differently - also there HAS to be personal preferences/issues, there is not a one size fits all format to health ( we are not machines ). Avocado toast will give 2 people different gi, insulin, and digestion responses. But yes so much info it's rather overwhelming.

      disagree. Some have slow metabolism and need that break of proteins/ starch. I like the idea of alternating these foods or at least giving ourselves a break from proteins 1 to 2 days a week. It all depends on what type of metabolism one has.

    I've read tons over the years about food combining. Much of it is the same, with some variations. But here is a thought, after watching tapes on mono meals and pondering some points. Animals in the wild do not combine their meals. Depending on the animal, they will stay to certain types of food. There are exceptions, like the wild boar, that will eat truffles, grubs, fruits, and anything he/she can find. But in general, if they start to eat some berries, they will stay with that if there are enough, and won't go looking for leaves to eat half way through. Humans are obsessed with combining foods. We are also plagued with fat, poor digestion, diseases, hemorrhoids and bad breath. We are the only ones that process foods with other foods. We are the only ones who like to have so much variety on one plate and dessert too with coffee. It's not natural.
    Rather than trying to figure out how to combine foods, we should try figuring out how NOT to. Maybe eating a meal of just one food with some herbs or a bit of ghee/butter is sufficient. I just finished a mono meal of pears. Delicious. Just food for thought.

    The only problem I see with her schedule from a bodybuilding perspective is that your body cannot absorb your daily protein requirements in 1 sitting. As a bodybuilder, I aim for around 175 grams of protein per day. so I kind of pull a switcharoo on her schedule with proteins and vegetables, (and cocunut oil fats) during the day until dinner, whereby I have more vegetables, a large sweet potato, an avocado and if I'm "bulking" some quinoa boiled in curry. I eat frequently throughout the day and want to assure consistent protein supply, so just saving all of my carbs and starches for the end works best.

    does this mean fruits and vegetables are the only thing you should eat for breakfast? I always eat a big breakfast in order to stay full and not snack. I love oatmeal with fruit and nuts or avocado toast with eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. Is this bad? I have a really bad digestive system so maybe this is what I am doing wrong. I also always combine starches and protein.

    Are you sure about having protein rich diet for the dinner? In my culture, for one’s well-being we are always advised to eat something which is easy to digest and protein are generally advised to be consumed partially during breakfast and lunch.

    Thank you for this video. It really helped explain very confusing topic. I had a question as to when to have nuts and seeds. I was thinking about having fruits or a smoothie for breakfast, depending on the day and then 30-40 minutes after having nuts and seeds to finish out my breakfast. I eat twice a day, so in the evening i'd either have a starch-based meal with veggies or a protien based meal with veggies.
