Don't know what the cameraman is trying with all of the zooming and shaking the camera from the beginning to the end of video, but it's freaking me out. I couldn't even concentrate on your words 🤦♀️🤷♀️
What also helps -- when you're eating out -- is what Glucose Goddess has shared: eat the veggies first, the protein and fat second, and the sugar, starches or grains last.
Food combining was trendy in the late 70s/early 80s. It does work and it's really not that hard to do, just hard to explain. Your way of handling this is so clear and sensible.
Keep making these videos! I’ve had stomach problems for four years and I’m definitely going to follow these rules it makes so much sense but I’ve never thought of it before!
Dr. Mona, I have been interested in food combining for some time now and after having a very difficult week of bloating, gas, etc. I decided it was time to do the research. I found your channel and listened to and took notes from videos 1 and 2. I'm about to watch the 3rd one. What you said and explained made sense and I can recall times after eating protein and starch when I felt awful. Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge. New sub!
I'm on day 4 of food combining! I feel so amazing! I haven't had a stomachache after eating! After watching your first video you really inspired me to try it out. Thank you for changing me life lol
I'm curious about vegan protein powders and things like maple syrup and cacao etc... where do these fall in food combining? I'm all about trial and error (or trial and success) but interested to see what category these fall under. I would LOVE to see a massive list of alllll foods and superfooda (including powders like maca etc..) in which category they fall under including ones that could fall under 2 categories like beans are considered a starch in some peoples opinions and a protein in others. Thoughts?? :))
Thanks Mona~!! I've been following a vegan diet but my gut isn't always feeling the best and i'm breaking out. This could be the reason food combining!! i'm that person that would put everything into a meal to get the best nutrition. Can you do a what i eat in a day video on food combining:) Thank you ❤️
I'm confused about one thing: how about adding lemon juice to your, let's say, spinach salad (being a vegetarian it technically helps you absorb more of the iron in the spinach). That would be a fruit+ vegetable combo, and I do that a lot. Since lemons are very acidic maybe that combination is ok?
and lemon juice isn't a solid to be digested - the goal is not to pile solids on top of solids where one solid digests faster than the other thus fermenting
Fruits agree with me VERY well. My body loves fruits. Is it alright if for breakfast, instead of eating a smoothie, I will eat a huge fruit platter or a huge fruit salad? (Starting with the fruits that are easiest to digest) Also, I do not think that as a vegan, the starches VS proteins really apply to me. I am a grain-free vegan and the only legumes I consume are legumes that I have soaked and sprouted which go EXTREMLY fast in my digesting system. Legumes are always digested faster when you sprout them.
Thank you so much for all the info! I never paid attention to food combining but I’m glad that I now thanks to you :) please keep making videos like this ✨✨✨
Got 52 seconds in but had to stop because the camera movement was making me dizzy. I realize how ridiculous that sounds but it's the truth. I'm bummed!
Amanda Wagenknecht I’m so sorry! :( Using a tripod from here on out. The link in the description of this video goes to a blog post where i put up a cheat sheet chart, that might help :)
EXCELLENT videos on food combining. I practiced this regimen decades ago when I was training .... was 11% body fat with a very high metabolism .. on a non meant diet which included some fish ... my caloric intake just to maintain my 205lbs was 3400 calories ..... altho I found it difficult to stick to all the time ... when I did I had waaay more energy ...... years later I find myself overweight and looking to get back where i was ... or as close to it as possible ... off the dairy ... lots of raw plant based foods, plant proteins , etc and now refreshing my memory on food combining and I found your channel ... subscribed and grateful to have discovered you .. great job and thanks !!
Yessss. Thank you thank you thank you! I LOVED and took in sooo much from your first part. I’ve had gastritis for 9 years since I was 17, and I had nooo idea any of this was why I might be making it worse without knowing. You’re an angel azizam. I got my mom, sister in law, and friends at work following you now too. Thanks for sharing love with knowledge! Xoxo
Dr. Mona, should I stop putting pbfit powder and fruit in my oatmeal in the morning ? Is pbfit considered protein and oatmeal is a starch and fruit shouldn’t be eaten with anything else right ? If so, what do you recommend to put in steel cut oats to give it a nice flavor without using sugar ?
A little confused still 🤷🏻♀️... all beans are considered a protein or are some a starch .. for food combing purposes ... so rice and beans wouldn’t be ok? Or it’s it ok cuz they are both starches ?
Hi Dr Mona! I'm a vegan, and super interested in nutrition, food science & sports science... Now, I'm a little bit confused over food combining. Many sources - that are supposed to be trustworthy gov sites - and you are categorising beans, lentils, peas, (legumes) + nuts and seeds (their butter) totally differently :o Under which group do these go? As well as soy-based products, such as soy yoghurt, tofu, tempeh, seitan, edamame? Could you please have a summarised document on this that is straightforward? As a vegan I suffer from unbearable bloating amongst other things, and it would be fab to utilise this method since after a few days it seems to be alleviating it, but I need a crystal clear description. Thank you very much in case you see this and devote your time to do this! xx
Thank you for this video, where does vegan protein powder fall under? So according to the food combination principal, adding raspberry, avocado, cacao powder with vegan protein is a no no? How would a began protein smoothie look like without adding vegetables? Many thanks!
Great and helpful video. One question though, I learned simple food combining basics many years ago and have been vegan for 17 years now. Recently I came upon some info that nuts + whole grains or beans + whole grains makes a "complete protein". there is so much good and bad info out there that its hard to decipher though my gut tells me that this may be right. Can you help me figure this mystery out?! Thanks, Rob
I actually read that banana and other sweet fruit should never be combined wit peanut or almond butter because those have a high amount of proteins wich bring to fermentations. What do you think about this?
Docs I saw the charts you shared. How about the fat/oil? How we combine them? Is it can combine in any category? Like we cook our eggs or meat or vege with ghee or coconut oil?
Really interested in learning about this, and you do a great job articulating the material. I can't watch this video however due to the camera shaking and moving so much it's making me nauseous. Do you have this information written down at all on a blog or website?
What are your thoughts on drinking protein smoothie immediately after workout in the morning? Of course after you’ve already had your green smoothie and cup of warm acv&lemon water.
The Bob's Red Mill products uses Monsanto (Roundup) seeds, just an FYI, in additon to Quaker so I don't know a good brand to use now that I've found this out.
Hi Does limes and lemons belong in the fruit group or can you use that like veggies? I love it in my water with cucumber or over a salad with a little olive oil
So I’m going to back to school soon and I always used to eat larabars, but what are somethings I can use to make food combining approved energy bars? Can I combine dates and nuts? Can I put different types of nuts together? Can I add dried fruits to nuts? Thanks in advance ❤️
Question, on the video with the trainer he recommended 45% protein for weight loss. That seems extremely difficult as a vegan alone and now to only eat protein at dinner!? How is that actually obtainable? How do you eat 179 grams of protein in one meal? I would love a video. Fat loss is my priority and I would to do it as a vegan. I don’t eat very unhealthy and I work out 4 times a week and still have trouble loosing so wondering if food combining could help.
I really like these two videos!!! I think people will enjoy a video where you actually show different plates, differents kind of meal... What do you think?
I am really enjoying these videos! That you for making these! I would love to see more meal ideas that follow the food combining guidelines :) Also do you have any favorite cook books or books in general to help with food combining diets? I Have been reading Natalia Rose's book and I am getting some great info there but I'm always looking for more!
45 years ago I read a book "Food Combining Made Easy" by Herbert Shelton, written in 1951. I made copies of some of the pages and still have them in a notebook. I never followed any of his advice, but now at 70 yo, I'm giving it a try.
What about chia seeds with oats? Isthat considered protein+starch? Also, do u have any recommendations for oatmeal recipes with no nut/seed products? Love this video, very informative!!
Love the idea of fruit in the morning, starches midday and proteins at night, but how can i get enough protein for my training? I need 150-180g a day as a 220lb 6'2" male athlete. Even if i have two protein meals thats still 90g per meal. Is that do-able?
Very informative! Thank you, Doctor Mona :) Being a vegan I'm so tired of hearing non vegan doctors or dietitians talking about the benefits of bone broth, grass fed daily products or wild caught salmon... Anyway I'm so glad that I stumbled across your channel
How do you suggest we get in all of our protein when we only should be eating protein at one meal at the end of the day? Based on my macros I’m supposed to be getting in 170 grams of protein a day. Please help me figure this out! Thanks!
I like to mix pure pumpkin into oats and smoothies but I think it's considered a fruit. I'm reading mixed reviews about how easily it's digested, any suggestions?
I’ve also read a lot about not combining carbs + fat as it spikes insulin and leads to weight loss. Can you help clarify this against the starch+fat combo suggestion. Is it the same thing?
Hi Dr.Mona, Great video simplifying the food combining , I am going to look into this more to see if it helps with my bloating. Can't wait to see more!
Mam we can't combine carbs and starches with fat ... A big No No Carbs spikes up insulin and insulin is also known as fat storing hormone .. while carbs is used as energy source and whole fat is stored in fat cells.. moreover insulin acts as doorway to open cells and fats also gets enter in it and gets stored.... causes High fattening effect
I don't think many people know of this concept! I've subscribed in the hopes this becomes a channel for you. Maybe, "What I eat in a day - food combining". I would love that!
I am so confused as in one of your videos, you combined nutritional east with lentil pasta, while in this video you said don't combine protein with starches like pasta. I do not know your point and I am pretty sure that you even do not know what you are saying. so bad...
Really love how you break it all down! I'm still wondering about "veggies" that are actually fruits, like tomatoes, bell pepper, cucumber, etc. and how would they be with a starch or protein? Also does raw vs cooked veggies matter? For example, if I eat chips and salsa, then with guacamole, then a burrito with rice, veggies, guac, pico, lettuce...should i leave off beans or tofu? or skip salsa or guac?
What about the ancient combination of leguminose and grains, example rice and beans? (kitcheri), which is a protein and a starch, but acording to Ayurveda is a super food even used in cleansings and healing
I went to a dietician and they told me I don't have enough protein in my diet - I am vegan as well. They recommended I put nutritional yeast on my food - I put nuts on my food and try to incorporate a lot of beans and legumes into my diet - should I only be putting the nutritional yeast on my food at dinner? What about having nuts/seeds on my food for lunch?
I have a question as an indian we are habituated with eating rice/roti with dals(lentils which is essentially protein) Should we avoid eating dal with rice or roti (a kind of bread)
She's right about the store bought nut milks, they contain less than 10 percent nuts. A lot of time it's less than a 1/4-1/8ths a cup of nuts to 8 cups water. When you do your own nut milk it's 1cup soaked nuts to 4 cups water to get 4 or so cups milk. You pay for a lot of thickeners and fillers.☺
dee dee johnson herbs=veggies so they go well with everything. I love cilantro and a lot of times I just eat a salad with celery, avocado, cucumbers, chickpeas, cilantro and dress it up with a bit of olive oil and avocado on top, if you like olives add them up, great source of healthy fat.
Hey guys...in regards to food combining I find starch + veggies a bit bland and was wondering if starch + veggies + mushrooms would be OK? In short is mushroom grouped as a carb or protein in terms of food combining according to Dr.Mona? Thanks!!
Great concept!! I’m still learning about being more plant based and I’m curious if you only eat protein at dinner how do you get enough protein for the day?
Hi, Following your Hot and Healthy plan. Can I add vegan protein powder to either my morning green juice or in my morning oats? What's the best way in order to still adhere to food combining principles? Thanks!
Hi Dr. Vand, would you consider hummus a protein or fat ? i know its a combination of both, i eat it quite regularly and wanted to know if it is ok to combine with bread as i do with avo toast. Thank you :)
Hey Mona, oats are starches and nut butter is a fat so they can be combined together right? You said u can have fat and starch together but then u said oat and almond butter is not a good combination? Pls clarify if I'm wrong. thanks a lot for this video.
any other food combining i have read about (in books, before i used youtube for info), they said NOT to combine fats and starch. why would they have said that?
Thank you!! I’m vegan and I feel more than ever really floated and now I know why!!! I ALWAYS have for lunch beans or some sort of protein with rice!!!! Thank you thank you thank you
Sooo fats is only good with starches??? So a lot of raw treats have bases of coconut oil, nuts, dates.. that would be a bad combo? Cause no fats with protein... but the dried fruit like dates and nuts is ok... am I understanding this right??? ... love these videos btw!!!
Is it bad to eat oatmeal with frozen blueberries in the morning? I've been doing this for a year now and it hasn't affected my digestion negatively (I'm vegan btw). How strictly do I have to take the fruit+oatmeal rule? 😊
I add banana, mixed berries, beets, açaí and spinach to my vegan protein powder. Based from your video the berries and bananas should not be mixed, correct?
Thank you for these awesome videos! What's your take on coffee- is it ok to have in the morning as well and possibly in between lunch and dinner? And what about snacks in between meals? (besides non-starchy veggies) And dark chocolate?
I've been watching and learning about food combining over a week and nobody explained and make me really understand the way you did 😁🥰😍 thank you so much for this video ,and please come with recipes as well .I'm on my detox right now and I want to make sure I do it right ✅
Don't know what the cameraman is trying with all of the zooming and shaking the camera from the beginning to the end of video, but it's freaking me out. I couldn't even concentrate on your words 🤦♀️🤷♀️
Ana Herceg hahah.. you’re not the only one, so sorry! We fixed this moving forward :)
Yes, I was thinking a tripod would be better. Good the issue is fixed 😀
Ana Herceg lmao
Please use tripod next time! I cant focus😅
Ana Mala I had to stop watching coz of the fidgety cameraman
Do a 7 day meal plan based on these principals to help act as suggestion
shahkeyomi I agree. I hope Dr. Mona does one soon.

I wish you were able to hear what she had to say. Maybe just hear it and not watch the video . i've been eating all the wrong food all of my life.

Yessss. Thank you thank you thank you! I LOVED and took in sooo much from your first part. Did food combining heal your gut ?

Modest Vanity she doesn’t make that clear at all!!
Beans are a protein and a starch. They combine with starches and veggies but need to be soaked and prepared for digestion
I have the same question
She explained in her first video about starches and protein well.
Hi Dr Mona!

What should we eat for dinner? Can you give us some recommendations? And also what spread can we put on bread?
Bread + Hummus good or bad combination? Bread is starch , hummus is starchy (but fatty) also PROTEIN HEAVY? Thank you for your time.
I actually read that banana and other sweet fruit should never be combined wit peanut or almond butter because those have a high amount of proteins wich bring to fermentations. What do you think about this?
When can you eat dried fruits , for example, mango ? And can you combine it with anything else ?
Hi Mona, how would you classify raw cacao powder (about 11% fat) and what would you recommend to combine it with?
Docs I saw the charts you shared. How about the fat/oil? How we combine them? Is it can combine in any category? Like we cook our eggs or meat or vege with ghee or coconut oil?
Really interested in learning about this, and you do a great job articulating the material. I can't watch this video however due to the camera shaking and moving so much it's making me nauseous. Do you have this information written down at all on a blog or website?
What are your thoughts on drinking protein smoothie immediately after workout in the morning? Of course after you’ve already had your green smoothie and cup of warm acv&lemon water.
This was so helpful! Please do more. I’m almost always bloated and now I know why. This YT explanation I hope will make my vegetarian diet better.
The Bob's Red Mill products uses Monsanto (Roundup) seeds, just an FYI, in additon to Quaker so I don't know a good brand to use now that I've found this out.
Hi
Does limes and lemons belong in the fruit group or can you use that like veggies? I love it in my water with cucumber or over a salad with a little olive oil

Can I combine dates and nuts?
Can I put different types of nuts together?
Can I add dried fruits to nuts?
Thanks in advance ❤️
Can I also combine seeds and nuts together, and if possible can you mix that with dates?!
also what i eat in a day and meal examples are very helpful!!! you have wonderful information thank you!!
Dairy is on a not recommended, but would you combine it with starches or proteins? Like which of the two would be better?
Loved this! So helpful. I still have a lot to learn but this has taken me one step closer to understanding t food combining more. Thankyou!

Hello Mona, i would like to know in what category do you put cheeses and diary? Thank you:)
Can you combine more than one protein in one meal? Such as a boiled egg and a tin of tuna with a salad? Thanks!
45 years ago I read a book "Food Combining Made Easy" by Herbert Shelton, written in 1951.
I made copies of some of the pages and still have them in a notebook.
I never followed any of his advice, but now at 70 yo, I'm giving it a try.

Carbs spikes up insulin and insulin is also known as fat storing hormone .. while carbs is used as energy source and whole fat is stored in fat cells.. moreover insulin acts as doorway to open cells and fats also gets enter in it and gets stored.... causes High fattening effect
Think about soya beans, 50g of it contains 25g protein and 16g carb and less than 5g fat, do I have to eat it alone(except vegetables)
Please make a 3rd video on this series , especially about fruits ! Banana , citric fruits stuff !
I don't think many people know of this concept! I've subscribed in the hopes this becomes a channel for you. Maybe, "What I eat in a day - food combining". I would love that!
Tofu, tempeh, lentals, quiona, are also a great source of protein for vegans and vegatarians alike!
Love the topic so interesting! But the camera zooming and shaking was so distracting 😒
Louise Carrigan I’m sorry 🙈 we have fixed the issue moving forward - tripod it is!
I am so confused as in one of your videos, you combined nutritional east with lentil pasta, while in this video you said don't combine protein with starches like pasta. I do not know your point and I am pretty sure that you even do not know what you are saying. so bad...
What does quinoa fall under? I know it’s technically a seed. Is it considered to be a starchy food?

What about Banza chickpea pasta? It is high in protein yet is chickpeas... what do you think?
Are gluten-free foods starch free? For example, can I eat tofu/tempeh with gluten free bread?
