Great video that shows that taking the ball on the rise is not always the best option, but it is a matter of bidding your time when to do it. Very well explained!
Hitting the ball ON THE RISE has been the trademark of some of the greatest players in tennis history...Fred Perry, Jimmy Connors, Andre Agassi... It's an important skill to play at an advanced level. Great Topic for a video. Thanks
Excellent topic again, with important distinction with content for offense and defense. I get this shot a lot in doubles especially from opponent’s return of serve. Trying to get caught up on your videos since I just recently discovered your channel thanks to the algorithm. Thanks again!
I really liked your video, But the most interesting thing is that I remember when back in the 70s my Great coach taught me game tactics and it was this moment that he explained to us... we conclude... not only the old masters of painting can teach us something...but so do the old masters of tennis!!!
Holy... This is good. Like the basic idea that the ball on the rise has tendency to go up, so i dont need to hit it upward. All this time i hit this kind of ball by doing lasso a la nadal, because i dont think i can hit it cleanly and my approach is just returning it. Nice.
Your ability to analyze and explain technical and tactical concepts of tennis is superior. Your one minute is very long though🤣 My students are not as attentive as I am so some shorts would be great.
Love your channel ! Some advice since it’s tricky for people to take in information : really emphasize the key takeaway. Like maybe with a bold coloured text that comes a cross the screen or a super brief animation. And a different intonation. I also feel like your videos could be significantly shorter and bring across the same message.
It seems easier to take the ball on the rise when the ball isn't coming from a very steep drop. What's your recommendation for dealing with heavy high looping balls that fall deep then kick high to the back fence, sometimes so high that you can't get it? Does taking the ball on the rise work consistently for these steeper drops or would swinging volleys work better? I wouldn't mind a demo🙏
Excellent video but technically ruined audio by the player tearing the ball apart somewhere in those courts. You should actually reshoot this because the content was so good. It wasn’t the microphone it was that dude!
That's a tricky one because there's a few causes. But the simplest one If you are under pressure at least is to line up the racquet earlier. Alot of players approach the ball with there strings closed and then square up just before contacting the ball. But under pressure you can rush this movement and end up flipping it open
Except if you're Federer then you can take the ball on the rise in defensive position, on the BH side, and still can redirect down the line for a winner.
Will, I have a situation here in doubles game. The opponent lobs my partner and they both come to the net. I have to run for a forehand shot. Their lob is usually a moon ball and I usually hit a high top spin lob back to the baseline. However, when I try to hit some aggressive forehands , the outcome is either too high to fly long or too slow to pass them. Should I take it on the rise or drive volley in the air in this situation? Any suggestion to improve in this situation? Thanks again
That's a tricky one just because it all depends on how comfortable you are on arrival. If you're feeling good then the aggressive options are solid. But I like the lob reset that you're doing
You didn't go over taking the ball on the rise on your backhand which I think has more variety than the forehand. For instance, sometimes when the ball is close my body short hopped, I will agressively slice this ball on the rise, ala Fed. And I will actually come over the ball on my backhand when I take on the rise when I went to agressively hit an approach shot.
I really enjoy your channel and the way you explain tennis from tactical and strategic prospective. However With all due respect, I have to bring to your attention that technical quality of your videos is not up to the standard. Whether it is: - The noise coming from next court practice (like in this vid) - Or noise from the mic when you are running and playing as a part of video message, - Or say parts of the video recordings going out of and in focus as you move, - Or not being able to read written message posted in your video because of bright background ( like here th-cam.com/video/NXAAdwotQwc/w-d-xo.html ) You need to check the quality of a video before posting it, higher level in quality assurance department. As you know, once posted you can not edit video - you have to delete it from the YT and re post it Other than that, this is excellent channel and I enjoy your coaching material and ideas. Thanks
This is the type of feedback I like 😁 I agree with the sound quality. New mics were just delivered 👍 video quality and a background noises are a challenge only because of time constraints and court availability. If the video is being shot at noon and the club sells the court next to me 🤷♂️ I try to roll with the punches on that one. I am looking into better video equipment soon. Finances just need to match. I'm currently a one man team so things like audio noise and camera focus I don't even know about until the the Editing process and then I very often making this face 🤦♂️

Need another video of how to hit a two-handed backhand if I am forced to take it on the rise or if the ball is above shoulder height at contact point.
Great video Will. Congratulations on reaching 1K subscribers! -Lucas

very nice video and great liveball demonstration. It's good to break it up into defensive vs. offensive hitting on the rise.

Too much of background noise
I agree, we upgraded the microphones shortly after this video 😁
Left video noise noise noise irritating
Too much noise interference
Please have no background music or tennis shots, it distracts viewers from focusing on what you are saying.
Yes in this video the mics were blown so we actually were using camera audio which is terrible as you can see. We upgraded soon after

To much noise not helping to listen
You talk a lot presentation is less
Depends on the topic but I can try to shift the ratio a bit 😁
