I thought it was weird at first considering night themes are invariably more passive, but when you consider the stance of the people of the crystarium, it makes sense. They've been waiting for night to return for decades, so of course the night theme would be moving.
And considering the philosophy about Light and Darkness of the people of the First it makes a lot of sense as well, since to them Light is that of stasis and Darkness is that of change

As soon as the vocals come on I start bawling. I lost a friend who played this game with me and we'd always end our night together idling here shooting the shit before we logged off. I still come here and just sit by myself listening to the music we listened to for so many hours together.
The ONLY song I can't get on board with is the 5.0 battle music. Every piece of music in this expansion is beautiful beyond compare, but the battle theme feels jarring and completely out of place by comparison.

I just started Shadowbringers and it has such a different vibe from the past expansions I played. The excitement I had when I listened to this after the night arrived, is so magic and incredible. It translates the emotion the people of the Crystarium and Lakeland, the feeling of something they never experienced.
You know, I was expecting Shadowbringers would be a return to high fantasy. But... I really am gobsmacked at how far past my expectations literally EVERYTHING about this has blown. I picks up threads from way back to ARR and starts to tie them all together, weaving that indistinct picture into clarity at last, it gives me this new world and immediately makes me care about it without ignoring the one I came from. It doesn't FEEL like we're just being shunted into some side content until they've got Garlemald and the Ascians ready for our big showdown, this feels IMPORTANT. The zones and the music... they aren't just epic in scope, they have a... vision to them.

It's this strange feeling of hope and pride mixed together, in an even more elevated version- clearly befitting of a city where its denizens are proud of where they live. Having just finished Shadowbringers I have to say..the soundtrack for this expansion has been a complete privilege to listen to..I literally walked most places instead of riding a mount just so I could listen to the music as I traveled

The first time I heard the vocals I was on the verge of tears, every time I heard them again was in a cutscene, and each time I cried. Shadowbringers is beautiful. I wasn't expecting anything less than amazing, and I got something unbelievable. It plucked at my tired heart and brought buried emotions back from my days during ARR and the few days I played 1.0 even. It reminded me why I love this game so much and why its my favorite FF game hands down. I've cried playing a game before, sure, nothing special about that. But I have never cried this much during a single experience. It was beautiful.
Just got to the end of the 71 dungeon last night and when I got back to Crystarium it happened to be night-time and h o o o o o boy. This was a WILD emotional trip I didn't expect to be thrown on by a simple song change.
The fact that you can even return from it at broad daylight expresses a clear example of this story's largest pitfall: ludo-narrative disconnect. Even if great progress has been made in this particular expansion to alleviate it.
@@commentingchannel9776 2 years late but it is the nature of the beast with MMO's, SHB tried harder than a lot of singeplayer games (looking at you ubisoft), the the justification in-game for a duty finder in the last trial brought me chills as they did the opposite of narrative disconnect and canonize a gameplay mechanic
After having gone through Shadowbrings for the first time just now, I now know what everyone's comments meant when they say they wish they could relive it again for the first time. Not purely for the story alone, but experiencing the music along with it. I've had goosebumps throughout many parts of the game especially the first time I've gone through the previous expansions, but none have given me the feels quite like Shadowbringers has all throughout the entire story, especially when I think about how the music coincides with the story.. This song in particular always gets me, especially the part with Amanda Achen's vocals! I get the chills everytime even if I'm just standing in Crystarium and listening.
I wonder just how many people stopped dead in their tracks while running around the Crystarium when they heard the singing? I know I did. Hit me right in the feels. 😭
Idk there's something about 3:54 - 4:10 that makes me feel things. Such a beautiful transition from the singing. That sequence of notes gets me every time.
I am reading all these comments from so long ago and how they wish they could relive this moment for the first time... Well, you can't, but there are people like me who listened to this song for the first time in their life. Just today I finished the dungeon, went back to the city, it was nighttime, I wandered around and noticed the song had changed. I decided to listen to it and the lyrics just BLEW me away. And after me, another one will come. You might not be able to relive it ever again, but you can pass it on to so many people. And that is beautiful.

I mean, every major city since ARR (and maybe even 1.0, I've forgotten) has both day and night themes, and everywhere else it's just, well, background music. But this time you've been questing in the First under Everlasting Light for two half-zones, you may have even forgotten there *was* such a thing as night - good job to Square Enix for conveying a taste of what it's been like for a *hundred years* to the natives of the First, to whom night is a legend and a myth. And now there IS a night theme, and it MATTERS that there's a night theme, because *you made it possible.* Which it makes it even more impactful in the last leg of the xpac when *spoiler* happens.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard in any MMO. The lyrics were a surprise but very welcome. It made me feel like I was at Disney World. The Crystalium is just an absolutely gorgeous city, out of this world with its beauty and the music captures it perfectly and nearly brought me to tears. What a marvelous expansion!
I have been taking a break from the game because I felt a little burned out and like there's nothing to do for me right now. This came up in my recommendations and after listening I'm just hit with so much nostalgia and I'm reminded of what I love about the game. Time to come home!
Now after I am done with expansion, this part at 3:06 will always remind me of Ardbert and his trusted party walking/enjoying the life in the crystarium. Same, it just breaks up this town theme and makes the vocals even more powerful! I love that the motif is played on the harpsichord (a percussion instrument, by the way) before the vocals and just sets the mood even more.

Vet MMO player and honestly for all my years of playing MMO's and listening to good soundtracks, this thing right here... is out of this world. ... like as if I needed anymore glorious moments in SHB to say the least that THIS is the best expansion for FFXIV. I love that you mentioned 3:06 when that’s the exact reason I love this song so much! I somehow never managed to hear it until after I’d fought the final boss and heard Tomorrow and Tomorrow, and I teared up while I was just trying to do some crafting, whoops.

I -really- really love how this uses the instrumentals of two of the songs in the expansion at the beginning. Call-and-response has been a big part of the music going all the way to back to Answers at the End of An Era. That juxtaposition of voices, of light and dark, has been with the game ever since they decided to kick 1.0 and relaunch it all, possibly even in 1.0 but I can't be certain given how much changed.
All the other hubs were pretty neat, but the Crystarium was the first zone in the game I actually wanted to live, work, and hang out in. I have such a fondness for the First after completing 5.3.
Honestly, shadowbringers is rivaling heavensward best moments in just it's beginnings. I am so happy that the story, music, enemies and so on have once again captured the true Final Fantasy feeling from the game of old (ff1 to 6). This was a thing that was heavily missed in stormblood and while SB had some few good tracks, most of them was SB main theme re-arranged with little variation....
This was the first night theme I heard this expansion, and I could not have asked for a better one. Since then, more than once, FC mates have asked me to help with something while I was in the Crystarium and I would respond with, “K, I’ll come to you in a few minutes. Need to finish listening to this before I leave.”
Walked through town taking in the newly formed night sky, interacting with NPCs, so immersed in the story and ambience, and thinking oh, they added a night theme, it was quite surprising and unexpected, very nice touch. Then “Stand tall” is sung, and I am shooketh, in such an awe and in tears. When I’m passing through the Crystarium around 5pm or later Eorzean time, I stay for a little while.
This is such a beautiful theme! I didn't think much of it until the lyrics kicked in and it quickly became a favorite! FF music can do such a great job at evoking several emotions with a single track
This song is so hauntingly beautiful. I think I cried the first time I heard it. Peace, tranquility and sound sleep, things we take for granted as adults. I was never happier in this game until I drove back that accused light.

I love this expansion and its music so much. When 3:06 first kicked in I had chills. It's one of my favorite parts and I end up humming it around the house and at work when I need to calm my anxiety lol.
Late to the show but... the theme is seriously one of the best I've heard in a long time... I had to look it up to realize it was not written by Uematsu. Kudos to Soken. I really thought it must have been. The arrangement by Yoshitaka Suzuki is insane. Just brilliant work all around. I'm glad they added vocals in the latest two expacs (Amanda Achen is great), it gives the OST that Nier Automata flavor I like so much.
Many years ago, around the time Shadowbringers had just come out, I lost my best friend. This was on top of being depressed for the vast majority of my life from elementary school all the way into my young adulthood. I was going to college at the time, and I desperately wanted to find a new group of friends, so at the suggestion of another friend of mine, I started playing FFXIV. Not only was the game amazing, and unlike anything I had ever played before, but I eventually found a new group of friends who invited me into their FC, and I even met the love of my life through that group. Her personality, love and determination have helped mold me into the person I am today. Then, I finally got to Shadowbringers. When I heard the lyrics of this song for the first time, I cried and cried and cried like a baby, because I truly felt as if they were speaking directly to me, not as the WoL/WoD, but to me, the individual who had been lost in the mire of darkness for far too long. I had suffered in darkness and unwarranted self-hatred for so much of my life and felt that I would never amount to anything, accomplish my dreams, or mean anything to anyone. This song was the long-awaited beginning of the end of my inner darkness, and I truly was able to finally find the light again, something I never thought would be possible for me. Since then, I am proud to say that I have accomplished much, and I am more motivated than I ever have been to accomplish my dreams and do what I can to make this world a better place for as many people as possible. I finally found my light, and now I want to bring that light to everyone, everywhere, and help them find their own inner light as well, that they might defeat their inner darkness. Goddamn, Soken is a literal musical genius. To anyone out there who may still be lost in darkness, know that the light isn’t gone, it’s just buried deep within you, and ultimately, it’s up to you to find it and embrace it. I KNOW that you can, because I did, and I thought it impossible for 20 long years. Never give up on yourself, live for the beauty of our world, love your fellow humans and humanity, and cherish everything you hold dear. The light will come again, as it never was truly gone.
I get to see her with the Seattle Symphony next week for 1 of 2 of her Distant Worlds stops and I cannot express how overjoyed I am. I hope she does the songs I love, but she's so talented it won't matter
I remember getting here and playing through ShadowBringers a month before the launch of Endwalker and I loved the place and how crowded and alive it was, it's a little sad to see it so empty now compared to last year but I'm glad to have seen it so populated.
My favorite song from Shadowbringers (and that's a difficult thing to determine). It just fits the Crystarium and the general theme of the game so well.

This and the daytime theme of the Crystarium legit make me cry. Especially the lyrics... Btw, there is another theme song that starts out like Shadowbringers, but instead of switching to the male line, it sings the lyrics of the Crystarium (and expands on them!) and I swear you can hear the hope out of every note... It's awesome. You get it for finishing the story. Name is "Tomorrow and Tomorrow". Unfortunately, I couldn't find it on TH-cam yet...
When StB dropped, I had just broken up with my ex and only had a PS4 to my name. I got emotional over Rhalgr's Reach night theme, since I was starting over not just in life, but in the game on a new character without my ex, friends, or fc from that time. 2 years later, here I am getting emotional over a theme. It's so damn triumphant, hopeful, and relaxing I had to just stop and appreciate everything. ShB has become my favorite FFXIV storyline, and Soken really captured the essence of FF in his music.
Sitting here thinking about how Soken wrote this in the hospital(we case dont know for sure if this is one that he wrote there, but still) and knowing how sick he was. Then when you hear the lyrics come in, it's like Hydaelyn is talking to him, telling him to stand tall, that the darkness will find light again. I wonder if that had anything to do with this particular piece. It's so sad sounding, yet filled with hope and positivity. Just a thought
[5.0 Spoilers] Man, when the eternal light was brought back and I couldn't listen to the night theme after that, my heart shattered. This is like the best town theme ever. :'^) No doubt I pushed through the rest of the MSQ and beat the hell out of Hades just to get this melody back.

I have been taking a break from the game because I felt a little burned out and like there's nothing to do for me right now. This came up in my recommendations and after listening I'm just hit with so much nostalgia and I'm reminded of what I love about the game. Time to come home!
Now after I am done with expansion, this part at 3:06 will always remind me of Ardbert and his trusted party walking/enjoying the life in the crystarium. The lyrics in this song have second meaning which was addressed to him and his friends who failed to save the first.

Same, it just breaks up this town theme and makes the vocals even more powerful! I love that the motif is played on the harpsichord (a percussion instrument, by the way) before the vocals and just sets the mood even more.
3:06 Took me by surprise. Vet MMO player and honestly for all my years of playing MMO's and listening to good soundtracks, this thing right here... is out of this world.

I love that you mentioned 3:06 when that’s the exact reason I love this song so much! I somehow never managed to hear it until after I’d fought the final boss and heard Tomorrow and Tomorrow, and I teared up while I was just trying to do some crafting, whoops.

This expansion is so awesome in terms of well everything! The music, environments, and the story is so good from what I've experienced so far. Can't wait to continue until the end!

I -really- really love how this uses the instrumentals of two of the songs in the expansion at the beginning. If you add the lyrics to the parts that play, look at how they play off of eachother x_x:

Call-and-response has been a big part of the music going all the way to back to Answers at the End of An Era. That juxtaposition of voices, of light and dark, has been with the game ever since they decided to kick 1.0 and relaunch it all, possibly even in 1.0 but I can't be certain given how much changed.

All the other hubs were pretty neat, but the Crystarium was the first zone in the game I actually wanted to live, work, and hang out in. I have such a fondness for the First after completing 5.3.
Honestly, shadowbringers is rivaling heavensward best moments in just it's beginnings. I am so happy that the story, music, enemies and so on have once again captured the true Final Fantasy feeling from the game of old (ff1 to 6). This was a thing that was heavily missed in stormblood and while SB had some few good tracks, most of them was SB main theme re-arranged with little variation....
Omega Storm this has made number 1 on my fav songs, with DragonSong now being pushed to 2nd

This was the first night theme I heard this expansion, and I could not have asked for a better one. Since then, more than once, FC mates have asked me to help with something while I was in the Crystarium and I would respond with, “K, I’ll come to you in a few minutes. Need to finish listening to this before I leave.”
Walked through town taking in the newly formed night sky, interacting with NPCs, so immersed in the story and ambience, and thinking oh, they added a night theme, it was quite surprising and unexpected, very nice touch. Then “Stand tall” is sung, and I am shooketh, in such an awe and in tears. When I’m passing through the Crystarium around 5pm or later Eorzean time, I stay for a little while.
This is such a beautiful theme! I didn't think much of it until the lyrics kicked in and it quickly became a favorite! FF music can do such a great job at evoking several emotions with a single track
I never get tired of this song. I've found myself teleporting to Crystarium after 6 just to wait for my ques and pfs and listen to this song

This song is so hauntingly beautiful. I think I cried the first time I heard it. Peace, tranquility and sound sleep, things we take for granted as adults. I was never happier in this game until I drove back that accused light.

When 3:06 happened right after the battle at Mt. Navel, i literally screamed "G'raha Tia!!!" Made me shed tears on that big moment of reveal.
The song that we hear at that moment is Tomorrow and Tomorrow, this is a magistral reprise thought ;)

I love this expansion and its music so much. When 3:06 first kicked in I had chills. It's one of my favorite parts and I end up humming it around the house and at work when I need to calm my anxiety lol.

Late to the show but... the theme is seriously one of the best I've heard in a long time... I had to look it up to realize it was not written by Uematsu. Kudos to Soken. I really thought it must have been. The arrangement by Yoshitaka Suzuki is insane. Just brilliant work all around. I'm glad they added vocals in the latest two expacs (Amanda Achen is great), it gives the OST that Nier Automata flavor I like so much.
This, this is the reason why I set the crystarium as my home point. The music, atmosphere... It truly feels like home to me

Many years ago, around the time Shadowbringers had just come out, I lost my best friend. This was on top of being depressed for the vast majority of my life from elementary school all the way into my young adulthood. I was going to college at the time, and I desperately wanted to find a new group of friends, so at the suggestion of another friend of mine, I started playing FFXIV. Not only was the game amazing, and unlike anything I had ever played before, but I eventually found a new group of friends who invited me into their FC, and I even met the love of my life through that group. Her personality, love and determination have helped mold me into the person I am today.
Then, I finally got to Shadowbringers. When I heard the lyrics of this song for the first time, I cried and cried and cried like a baby, because I truly felt as if they were speaking directly to me, not as the WoL/WoD, but to me, the individual who had been lost in the mire of darkness for far too long. I had suffered in darkness and unwarranted self-hatred for so much of my life and felt that I would never amount to anything, accomplish my dreams, or mean anything to anyone. This song was the long-awaited beginning of the end of my inner darkness, and I truly was able to finally find the light again, something I never thought would be possible for me. Since then, I am proud to say that I have accomplished much, and I am more motivated than I ever have been to accomplish my dreams and do what I can to make this world a better place for as many people as possible. I finally found my light, and now I want to bring that light to everyone, everywhere, and help them find their own inner light as well, that they might defeat their inner darkness.
Goddamn, Soken is a literal musical genius.
To anyone out there who may still be lost in darkness, know that the light isn’t gone, it’s just buried deep within you, and ultimately, it’s up to you to find it and embrace it. I KNOW that you can, because I did, and I thought it impossible for 20 long years. Never give up on yourself, live for the beauty of our world, love your fellow humans and humanity, and cherish everything you hold dear. The light will come again, as it never was truly gone.

I get to see her with the Seattle Symphony next week for 1 of 2 of her Distant Worlds stops and I cannot express how overjoyed I am. I hope she does the songs I love, but she's so talented it won't matter
I remember getting here and playing through ShadowBringers a month before the launch of Endwalker and I loved the place and how crowded and alive it was, it's a little sad to see it so empty now compared to last year but I'm glad to have seen it so populated.
Even though old sharlayan day theme vocals is wonderful, crystarium night theme vocals just hits different!

Btw, there is another theme song that starts out like Shadowbringers, but instead of switching to the male line, it sings the lyrics of the Crystarium (and expands on them!) and I swear you can hear the hope out of every note... It's awesome. You get it for finishing the story. Name is "Tomorrow and Tomorrow". Unfortunately, I couldn't find it on TH-cam yet...
When StB dropped, I had just broken up with my ex and only had a PS4 to my name. I got emotional over Rhalgr's Reach night theme, since I was starting over not just in life, but in the game on a new character without my ex, friends, or fc from that time.
2 years later, here I am getting emotional over a theme. It's so damn triumphant, hopeful, and relaxing I had to just stop and appreciate everything. ShB has become my favorite FFXIV storyline, and Soken really captured the essence of FF in his music.
This theme gives me nostalgia like no other music in the game so far (granted I take huge breaks so I’m far behind)

Sitting here thinking about how Soken wrote this in the hospital(we case dont know for sure if this is one that he wrote there, but still) and knowing how sick he was. Then when you hear the lyrics come in, it's like Hydaelyn is talking to him, telling him to stand tall, that the darkness will find light again. I wonder if that had anything to do with this particular piece. It's so sad sounding, yet filled with hope and positivity. Just a thought

No doubt I pushed through the rest of the MSQ and beat the hell out of Hades just to get this melody back.
