Well done you’re doing a brilliant job there!! You remind me of myself at your age, you’re a rare breed these days. For not much over a grand you’ll have a fantastic daily rolling resto there! Nothing drives quite like a jag, they are such nice places to be in! 3.6 is a great engine and very reliable if cared for.

Me too!… I was you going say the same thing. Although I worked on cars like Fiat X1/9, Matra Bagheera and Lancia Montecarlo back in the mid to late 1980’s … fun time indeed 😝

@@jonathancollard3710 more exotic than me , I passed my test in 87 and cut my teeth on various Minis including a Clubman estate that I’d love to own now. Also a Herald, Spitfire and a gorgeous series 1 Renault 11 that I’d also love to own now!

Regarding the burning oil in the engine compartment, my xj40 had the same problem, my cam cover gasket leaaked due to going btittle. Worth a look and cheap to fix at £15 for a new gask3t set.

This is an excellent project car, albeit on that any sain person would run a mile from. You seem to have knowledge and wisdom beyond your years and balls of steel. Would love to have seen you rebuild those calipers, as new ones have significantly increased you budget in percentage terms and don't leave you room to escape if yo find something else expensive like head gasket or a trashed autobox. Love your get stuck in whatever attitude. Wishing you a very happy Christmas's and a lovely new year driving your faultless and fulfilling XJS.

Old Jags always look better than they are. Massive respect to you for taking this on! I've had a few over the years. So much car for so little money, but also so much car to keep maintained. You got the 3.6, so should be okay, the 5.3 V12 is something that would be so way beyond my skills. I hope you can do this without it costing you more than buying a runner. It's an old car - but my god - it's a beautiful thing - glad to see it being saved.

A great project and so good to see a young enthusiast - and clearly a very capable one - bringing this lovely Xj-S back to life. Interesting too that the Aj16 4.0 Litre engine is fitted to what was originally an AJ6 3.6 litre car. Both engines are tremendous but you have a very interesting car there. merry Christmas. take the wings off and check the upper wing support rail as they go pretty bad. also take the front wheel arch liners out and in front of the footwells you will find a drain bottle with foam under it which gets sopping wet and rots the top front of the sill . I had had one the same age. I also had injector issues. removed them and powered straight off the battery whilst squirting wd40 into them.. Good luck. I'm a fan of the xjs and xj

Nice work on that welding repair. I like your one repair at a time approach to fixing cars. Looking at the whole picture can be scary and result in the car being scrapped or parted out. It does help when it’s not your daily driver you’re working on, though. Had to call it time on my old CRV winter rig, unfortunately. Salt on the east coast Canadian roads has eaten through so many places underneath there’s not any good metal left to weld to.
Merry Christmas and all the best for ‘25! 👍🏻

To stop bloom on the paint wash only in wash n wax and after cutting the paint wax the hell out of it, the paint needs to be sealed by wax/sealer. You’ll be surprised how much longer it will last, cutting back exposes soft paint which will bloom again without wax:ceramic protection. Good luck
