  • We officially start the Kentucky Adventure Tour (KAT) on a KTM 990 Adventure and Suzuki V-strom 1000. We made some bad line choices and they led to us almost having a heat stroke. This is the hardest adventure motorcycle riding we've ever done so stay tuned for day 3.

Did the KAT a few years ago on little dual sport bikes. It gets better (worse?) over the next couple of days; rougher and muddier in spots. Also, Lynch, KY was a U.S. Steel company town that once held the world record for most tons of coal mined in a single day (42,000 tons). Benham (just next to Lynch) was a company town for International Harvester. The U.S. Steel mine (Portal 31) shut down in 1963 as production declined and the mine became too big to ventilate.

Lynch Ky has population of 700 people, flood prone, hills funnel water and it’s a mess. Used to be a coal community, green agendas have wiped that place out. Same for all eastern Ky. Beautiful country, good people, great riding in eastern Ky. Logging roads, abandoned coal mines and curvy back roads. No industry there, so young people migrate out for work. I Enjoy your channel

Feels good much cooler. International Harvester had the coal mines there. Produced for their steel mills.. Log Rock, many more in Red River Gorge, Slade, KY Natural Bridge St Pk. You could have went 14 miles north on LST to Whitesburg and US 119. It's paved like the lower section. That middle part is tough so rocky. Not much fun on bike. Some good riding all over.
