He often calls the standby phase "upkeep", usually calls the battle phase "combat", hell, even his channel name is a Magic reference, Mono-Blue means an MTG deck that only contains Blue cards and/or Artifacts, and Tron is a strategy in MTG that involves getting 3 specific lands (Urza's Mine, Urza's Powerplant, and Urza's Tower) in play to make a bunch of mana.
Wild that Infernities literally won Worlds and people are still trashtalking the deck because someone at their locals ages ago set a monster in the backrow zone and scooped when it got MST'd once. The deck's bonkers, there's no denying it.

Dragon Ruler mirror first, to establish how most games go, then Rulers vs Spell books, and then Rulers vs Evilswarm. Then at least 1 game featuring Ravine Rulers. For all their talk about "avoiding" this format for as long as possible, I want them to spend at least a month stuck in the dragon trenches, suffering for our enjoyment.
I wish we saw this duel from MBT’s hands to know what kind of hands he drew. If any episode were to change perspectives, this would have been the one to do it. Plus, top deck Archfiend!

They were top tier before soul charge, actually. Fire vs Water format, mermail vs fire fist between the second DRuler format and soul charge release. After soul charge gets released, there's a ton of viable decks: Mythic rulers, Sylvans, H.A.T, Geargia, Lightsworn, Infernity, and yes, Mermails still. They didn't do "decent" at EU nats 2014, they won the event lol. Not sure what Cimo is talking about, he probably doesn't remember that era. But I'm assuming once he does some research he will realise that if this series is to be accurate, we'll be seeing a lot of mermail still
Turn 1 for Infernity should have done archfiend and greph for laval dump styian special arch search arch stygian for arch search nexromanxer make another laval dump stygian and that’s full combo plus otk with what you get from there as you have full set up
So I used to play infernity since it came out until it got ban hammered to hell after that bogus world's where they just combined the tcg and ocg ban lists, leaving literally only infernity at such a high power level. It was my favorite deck and I can honestly tell you that assuming you didn't brick, you could either ok that turn or completely lock out your opponents next turn. It's actually a surprising hard deck to pilot at that time because mermaid was everywhere and a good player would know how to stack the chain to get around barrier with ease, meaning as the infernity player you would have to make weird plays like leaving necromancer in attack just to not lose the ability to activate barrier. That third game was infernity to win a long as he didn't forget that lavalval into stygian dump after search was a common way to extend plays over and over

This was a phenomenal episode and I cant wait for next week where we finally get to see the Lord of The Tachyon Galaxy come into play. Plus Dragon Rulers are one of my favourite archetypes in YuGiOh along side Dragunity, Mekk-Knights just to name o few. So I'm looking forward to them taking the stage.
Personally I'm looking forward to Spell books. Mostly because I've never actually seen Judgement played in a game. Since I've seen what the Rulers can do I want to, at least once, see the card that could match the power of that whole arktype on its own.

I don't believe Infantry triggers off of a discard from a monster who's effect activation was negated because the gamestate doesn't recognize that it was sent by the activation of water monster effect because the effect was never officially activated

As much as they meme on about wanting to delay dragon rulers I'm pretty sure they're just trying to showcase a genuinely interesting format with a varied bunch of competent archetypes with fairly modern designs and cool play styles. There wasn't as much to miss from whatever cringe GX formats preceded DAD.

What's worse: Living in a Tier 0 format, but you play the deck that is Tier 0 because you genuinely like it, so everyone hates you for it Or Be sacked out of a tournament in a Tier 0 format for not playing the tier 0 deck or its hard counters
Definitely the second one. Getting crushed by tier zero is awful ESPECIALLY if the only reason you aren't playing it is because you actually can't afford it.
It still baffles me that the Dragon Ruler format isn't a tier 0 format only because technically Spellbooks was just as oppressive and represented in the tournaments of the time (which is bogus because that should just mean both were tier 0 decks, either one would have absolutely dominated the meta without the other...)

Decks today aren't focused on tech choices and max out on consistency cards, the 28 monster mermail list is an example of that as well as this infernity list which isn't bloated on unnecessary monsters like the synchro one so it can actually make plays Decks used to run a lot more staple cards back in the day, even when that stopped being necessary, for example tour guide + sangan even after sangan wouldn't trigger by being detached from an xyz monster, because you could occasionally get value by leaving him on the field
I ran monster gate in this deck. Using lavalval chain to place infernity archfiend on the top of the deck, i dont need to wait the next turn to draw it. Monster gate would tribute lavalval chain and reveal archfiend and summon it, starting the combo.
Xyz Infernity represent! That deck was stupidly consistent, even a hand of four monsters could end on full combo board. 'Twas my deck at the time! Almost held my own after taking the Maxx "C" challenge against Dragon Rulers.

Hoping to see Evilswarms come up soon. They where a good contender against Prophecy, Mermail, infernity, and Dragon Rulers back then. There was a time where Evilswarms did top YCS events between 2013-2014.
Game 2 and 3 exemplify why Undine was important to Mermail, if he'd opened it that would've been immediate access to Megalo and a discard outlet for a hand full of atlanteans. Allows you to cut down on megalo and the atlanteans themselves, allowing more functionality your deck
Funny enough, Mermail is actually one of those decks that I hate even more than Dragon Ruler (which honestly I don't hate that much, dislike Spellbooks more,) mostly because I had one person I'd duel at school who always had everything he needed to obliterate my entire field every single time 😑. My experiences with deck is what makes watching Mermail brick and get owned both satisfying and confusing 😂
As someone who played Zexal era Duel Links; Cimo's play in game 2 of normal summon Diva, special Diva, ending with Gachi Gachi set pass and calling his hand garbage seems so baffling to me. Then I remember that he isn't Reginald Shark, therefore he doesn't have the "skill" that made Abyss Dweller into a Drident hybrid.
I'm kind of mixed on dragging out the time period before dragon rulers. Part of me is thinking, "Just do it already", but then again I'm down for any excuse that gets us more games.
mermail is still v good in ruler format (esp post the first banlist), r7 focus initially and also the rank 4 version focussed on looping pike and turge with gunde (and doing so during the dmg step was so so good)
A better first turn diva play would be to get an infantry, which grants a second normal summon and then summon pike to improve the hand. Then either make a level 8 synchro or dewloren to bounce the diva for next turn. For the mermail mirror you could even make armory arm with diva and infantry, and then dweller with pike. Wouldn't even be bad against infernity, as dweller would be 2200 thanks to pike and would stop street patrol.

If you know your opponent is running Night Beam, you should preemptively activate Abyss Sphere before they have a chance to use Night Beam.

Mermail pops again when Soul Charge comes out. Hoban tops a YCS and an ARGCS with it and it had a decent showing at Euros 2014.
The January 2014 format is called FireWater because Mermails and Fire Fists were the best decks of the format

Funny enough, Mermail is actually one of those decks that I hate even more than Dragon Ruler (which honestly I don't hate that much, dislike Spellbooks more,) mostly because I had one person I'd duel at school who always had everything he needed to obliterate my entire field every single time 😑. My experiences with deck is what makes watching Mermail brick and get owned both satisfying and confusing 😂

As someone who played Zexal era Duel Links; Cimo's play in game 2 of normal summon Diva, special Diva, ending with Gachi Gachi set pass and calling his hand garbage seems so baffling to me. Then I remember that he isn't Reginald Shark, therefore he doesn't have the "skill" that made Abyss Dweller into a Drident hybrid.

A better first turn diva play would be to get an infantry, which grants a second normal summon and then summon pike to improve the hand. Then either make a level 8 synchro or dewloren to bounce the diva for next turn.
For the mermail mirror you could even make armory arm with diva and infantry, and then dweller with pike. Wouldn't even be bad against infernity, as dweller would be 2200 thanks to pike and would stop street patrol.
