    Let's face it, us plebs won't see these bottles available any time soon, but it gives hope for the future at least.

    Great summary of what was and what's about to go down Mac. Indeed, the Unobtainium element may be strong on this one, especially in the first couple of years. The NAS Yoichi goes from anywhere between €60 to close to €100 here in Europe, so I dread to think what an age stated will go for, with LMDW in Paris not exactly having the best reputation when it comes to price setting and with investors and collectors probably already dialing the Nikka hotline, trying to secure a bottle or 2. But no time for doom and gloom, the mere fact that we're seeing the rebirth of age statements is a thing to rejoice. Kanpai!

      Agreed Menno! That is what I have chosen to focus on - the positive aspect of the return of some bottles. The majority of these bottles will end up in bars and restaurants, at least initially, and, unscrupulous auction-loving bar owners notwithstanding, that means that more people will at least get to sample a dram. Let's hope for more big announcements from Nikka soon. Kanpai!

    £53!!!! Here’s hoping!!!!!
    Nikka Coffey Malt and grain can still be had in the U.K.

    At least they seem serious about rebuilding their reputation.

      I respect the effort that Nikka are putting in. They have been a little more gracious in their (subtle) admissions that they were caught out, and they have been trying to deliver. This is a start, and it is exciting to see them begin to get back in the game.

    I really enjoy the video and your sense of humor is awesome. Already can see the price of the bottle in the US hitting $200 or more. Secondary market folks clapping their hands))))))). On the other hand I'm going to see Nikka finally releasing something good. I think we are all looking forward to your full review of it.

    • @KanpaiPlanet
      @KanpaiPlanet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much! Review will come as soon as I get some in my hands as it were! I think $200 is a very conservative estimate for US secondary market pricing. I'm thinking more 10x that minimum. Best just to enjoy the fact it is it there and wait for more Nikka to got the shelves over the next few years.

    I suppose we should not be surprised that Nikka has gotten this right before Suntory

    • @KanpaiPlanet
      @KanpaiPlanet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They have essentially adopted different strategies. At least Nikka had the guts to admit that they don't have enough aged stock and decided to effectively take 15 years out of the game. Suntory were too proud to make such an admission.

    Hey Mac, would you consider doing a video on Japanese whiskies that are over-hyped overseas? Nikka Gold & Gold comes to mind. Got it as a gift, which was $50 AUD at the airport duty free shop, but in the second-hand market in Australia, it sells for $500+
    I know it might be a hard to do, considering that these whiskies are otherwise affordable where you are in Japan.
    Or maybe a reaction video to eBay and other whisky auction site listings where you have seen Japanese whiskies go for outrageous prices. Not sure if it'd ruffle a few feathers, but thought I'd pitch the idea to you.
    That Hibiki Blossom Harmony 2021 that you reviewed is now selling for anywhere from $800 AUD to $1400 AUD in Australia.

    Interesting and enjoyable video Mac. Needless to say that if ever this (and other ) age stated whiskies reached Europe they would be more than handsomely priced. Maybe we’ll be seeing more Japanese whisky with age statements in the coming years at affordable prices, won’t hold my breath though. Cheers Mac .

    • @KanpaiPlanet
      @KanpaiPlanet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is definitely a start. As in Europe, ts mainly higher age releases that have seen significant prices rises due to higher demand and lack of supply. Part of this demand is due to speculation on secondary pricing - if secondary pricing falls this should lessen this part of demand. Demand for high age statements, 15 and above, has never been so high. unfortunately this means that pricing will remain high however the signs of a slow down in increasing prices have started to appear.

  • @TLOWNSU

    You definitely earned a sub!
    I think Nikka From the Barrel started my love for Japanese whisky so I have a bit of a bias towards them in general, but it's also become expensive here in the states (Nikka FtB is around $80, Yoichi is around $90, and now Suntory Hakushu 12 is $150). Nevertheless I hope we see this Yoichi 10 in the US sooner rather than later.
    PS. Although Japan is closed to travel right now I've been planning a trip and want to try some Japanese whisky we can't get in the states. Any recommendations?

    Damned, my long comment did disappear after a false manoeuver ! Ok will make it quicker then, sorry...Great job of summerizing the situation regarding what is my favorite active distillery worldwide..I'm sure (as you warned us here) that prices for this will be over 100 €, and availability very difficult outside the "CHR" as we say here (hotels, bars, restaurants) so I'm a bit disappointed & frankly do not understand why Asahi is in such a rush ...Initially they were talking of "2030" as a minimum date for the return of the age statements...so why release something that will be more limited than before the 10 yo was ? Make more money ? Also me I wouldn't have titled "...Age statements are back" but "an age statement is back" as I suspect they will make us wait longer for the 12 yo, but who I am to make such as guess...? Apparently Asahi's decisions defies any "reasonable logic" (ok forget that rant)...Anyway thanks for the always very detailed & nicely edited video ! Kanpaï 🙏🥃
