    A really great peat experience the other day was when I sipped a couple ounces of Taketsuru NAS to get my taste buds into it, then poured some Yoichi NAS. Between the peat and malted barley that comes through in that Yoichi I was in the great whisky zone. I love those 2 whiskies! Your review does encourage me to think Yoichi 10 will stack up to Yoichi NAS....I'm so hoping! Nice review again. Thanks, Kanpai!

      If you like the Yoichi NAS, I think you will definitely like the New Yoichi 10! If you can find it in a bar and it is not too expensive then try out the Old 10 too! Kanpai!

    It’s here! Can’t believe how soon you managed to bring us a review, Mac! As always, loved the video and can’t fault the quality that went into it. Chill filtered and colour added + not as good as the old version :( I’m glad I saved myself $600+ AUD by not preordering one.

    Great video, Mac, and well done to be the first to review it on TH-cam...Your notes about the new 10 yo surprise me a bit (that banana note, especially) and grouped with other notes of yours they make me think of some peoples notes about some last years young Lagavulins...The new 10, judging on what you say, is promising, but, like you, I also believe that the old core range, and not only the 10, like I said it in my videos about this distillery, had some older content in it...I'll investigate when I'll be meeting their staff in September here, but in my experience, they usually don t give away much/easily these kind of informations, but you'll never know. To be followed,. Kanpai !

    • @KanpaiPlanet
      @KanpaiPlanet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Perhaps they decided to shift the house style to be more Lagavulin-style Islay? I don't think it is too much of a stretch to conclude that the average age of the old 10 is longer than the new, given the issues they have had over the last decade. Let's keep investigating. Kanpai!

      @@KanpaiPlanet I don't know, and no I didn't ment a vast amount was put into it, but perhaps a little, enough to help it have more depth, a bit like what Highland Park did in the early 2000s (a point for which I have reliable pro testimonies hence an interview on my website), when they were adding older content to the 12 & 18 yo (I still have bottles of both of them). They didn't stock old casks indeed as much as one could have thought, but younger ones too, I still can't believe why/howthey (& Suntory) didn't anticipate enough the demand...But what is done is done, right, and let's look ahead & the future is getting brighter now with this release...Kanpaï to that !

    • @KanpaiPlanet
      @KanpaiPlanet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I do like earthy peat notes in a whiskey (had a very interesting gin recently which used a small bit of peat as one of the botanicals and it was VERY earthy), shame it wasn't a bit more integrated...

    Interesting how it feels like the differences between the old and new Yoichi 10 remind you of the same differences between the old and new Taketsuru. I guess they changed their style these last years. We'll see how it goes if they also release a new Miyagikyo 10 in the future! Well done for that review!

    Great content as always, Mac! You continuously deliver some of the best whisky content on TH-cam. It sounds like there is no need to hunt for this new release just yet; I'll be patient and wait for it to come to my local bottle shop in a year or two. Until then, the NAS Yoichi should suffice. P.S. I was so impressed with the work that you put into this two-parter that I bought you a coffee.

    Felt pretty similar about the Yoichi NAS. It definitely tasted young, but I enjoyed the amount of peat it had. For a $35-ish dollar bottle it's nice, however as an $80 bottle (what it currently is in the US) there are much better options, even within japanese whisky. Hope in the future prices will go down 🙏

    Fantastic video as always Mac. Can the difference between the new ond old Yoichi 10-Y be a "new bottle effect"? Also, is it better than the new Ben Nevis 10-Y which is cheaper? 😉

    • @KanpaiPlanet
      @KanpaiPlanet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question Martin, but the answer is in my opinion No. Although one can never predict how a bottle will develop, one does have some experience trying to project. I also have notes from drinking old 10s at various stages at various times over the last decade, so I'm confident my thoughts will stand the test of time.
      I'll save my view on the Ben Nevis 10 for a video!

  • @RebMordechaiReviews

    Highly entertaining tripple review. Excellent flavour and tasting note descriptions.
    The new 10 YO does seem just a smidgen overpriced for what it is.

    • @KanpaiPlanet
      @KanpaiPlanet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Reb. It's probably overpriced by Scotch standards in that you can get an Islay 10 for cheaper. By Japanese whisky domestic pricing it's about right methinks.

    Was waiting for this one, as usual you did not disappoint, Great video great editing thank you. So basically what I got is new 10-year-old is a step up from NAS but it does not riches old 10-year-old. Sadly even NAS sells in the United States for around $100, I probably could not even imagine what a new 10-year-old is going to be. Keep up the great work and thank you.

      @@KanpaiPlanet I still think if it's going to be priced properly in the United States and I'm hoping under $150(that just wish will hope) it's still worth of trying, considering it is first release of age statement in such a long time. As a backup plan trying it in a bar.
