    Growing up back home, we didn't make a lot of distinction between the Nintendo and the super Nintendo, it was "a Nintendo" or more likely we called it "a video game".

    U guys convinced me. I'm gonna find a dk cabinet and buy a vs board w/excitebike. Luv that game. Btw way u guys need sum tips on playing. When u crash. Hit the gas button and your character will move faster towards the wrecked bike. Also, if you run 5 other racers off of the track. U will get the bonus "EXCITEBIKE," which means your bike turns Yellow and never overheats. I think it lasts into the next race, as long as u don't crash

    I remember seeing super mario brothers bitd and when games like bubble bobble etc came out, super mario was never played in my local, long gone arcade. I used to play it the odd time because it was only 10p to play. Never understood the hype about this game. But then again, I could never get past the second level either, so yea.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The game didn't actually save your high score after it was turned off, it has a bunch of fake high scores built into it until they get replaced by whoever's playing it... and after you turn it off and back on it resets back to those high scores. Thank you for watching Bryan!

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's pin for pin, just unplug it and plug directly into the main board and see if you still have the signal issues. As i'm sure you're aware the only purpose of that thing is to appease the FCC! It's trash, but it does make the cage and the board be neatly installed.

    Guess they gave you the little center piece sticker in case the old ones were damaged so you could make the machine look brand new?
    Other than that, can't think of a reason for it to be in each kit.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking maybe they planned on changing that art on each game but never developed it. So it could say something different for Castlevania, etc. but I dunno. It doesn't even get worn or damaged, so it's strange.....

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also since it's in the middle on the control panels, there potentially, and likely would be two completely different games on the left and right of the sticker.... so if it said something about Castlevania on the left or whatever, it's a strange place to put it. Maybe there was one planned for the 4 player games that used both screens, and they made a generic logo one for when you made each screen a different game. The 4 player one could say instructions or something, but I've never seen one different than the logo....

  • @bobloblaw3415
    @bobloblaw3415 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Blue or Green button? The reason is the buttons aren't necessarily 1P/2P Start buttons. The VS. schematics call the lines connected to the four colored buttons Select 1 to Select 4. Nintendo didn't make very good use of the idea though, as only Vs Tennis and certain versions of the Vs Golf games use all four buttons to select various game options.
    Anyway, in this case Excitebike is just saying pressing any select button is ok. It's the only Vs game that advertises it in this way, but several other one player games will start a 1 player game with the Green button, including the Vs Goonies you converted from.

  • @Fortuna1

    Is interesting, but the VS systems games can be played via console using flashcart with a pair of mods into the rom, is perfect playable, need 2 pads for works, select count like coin counter

  • @piratestation69
    @piratestation69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Speaking of batteries how do you access the book keeping? Also there are modded rom chips that can save hi scores. SMB and excitebike. PPU hacks exist as well on most vs games. There is a vs. tetris version called From Below. Works with all ppus. Lot better than the atari one.

    This game replaced Punch-Out at the laundromat in 1985 when I was 10. It was in an orange cabinet (to this day Vs. Excitebike machines don't look right to me unless they're in a DK Jr. cabinet). I loved Punch-Out and was wicked disappointed when I walked into the laundromat one day to find that Punch-Out had come up among the missing.
    At first glance I wasn't at all impressed with the newcomer. The cabinet itself was wimpy looking compared to Punch-Out and the graphics with those tiny little sprites were a drastic downgrade. I decided to give it a try anyway; what else was I going to do with my quarter? The joystick looked and felt familiar, aside from it being 8-way instead of 4-way, so I liked that, and it didn't take long for the game to grow on me (though I never considered it to be even in the same league as Punch-Out, let alone Super Punch-Out).
    This was before the Nintendo was released in the US, so no one had ever heard of Excitebike at the time, aside from people who had played the arcade machine. My cousin was the first person I knew to get a Nintendo, in 1986, about two weeks after the first national commercials for it aired on TV, and one of the games he bought at the same time was Excitebike. The first time I played it on his Nintendo I was expecting an inferior version, because that's how it had always worked with home console ports of arcade games, and was astounded that it looked, sounded, and played exactly like the arcade game. Since I didn't understand at the time that the arcade machine was just using the NES hardware platform to begin with, this gave me an inflated opinion of the power of this newfangled Nintendo console, i.e., I figured if they could do that with Excitebike they should be able to do it with any other arcade game too.
    Reality set in the first time I played Mike Tyson's Punch-Out about a year later. What a joke that game was in terms of graphics and sound compared to the real Punch-Out and Super Punch-Out.

    There was an additional problem. You spend 3k for a new game then you were stuck with the old game to get rid of. Hopefully in a way to recover some money. When the new game comes out there was a surplus of old games being sold so the prices went through the floor.

    Phil Spector and Tony Stewart references in the same video!! Awesome! I always loved Exitebike. Goonies is rare but it kid of looked like it would get boring quickly. For me anyway. I just played the games, I never really thought about the operators. Sounds like a super competitive dog fight. How do these companies get away with selling those 900+ game machines. I would think all of the game companies would be trademark suing them 24 hours a day. Great video!

    Apparently the hardware in the vs machines was based on Nintendo's very successful Famicom console. The Famicom , with some modifications, was released as the NES and the hardware compatibility meant that vs games were later released as NES cartridges. The original kit price was $750 dollars, compared to around $1,500 for Nintendo's dedicated machines. Really enjoy the videos.

    I suspect they didn't cover the windows to make it easier to erase the chips. I have several boards where there's multiple game stickers stuck on top of each other on the EPROMs. So apparently nintendo would take back the chips and burn on new games and send those out. I had a Vs. platoon with a partially erased EPROM (and no sticker on the window). Dumping it resulted in about 90% of it being empty. Reburning fixed it and it worked fine after that. Vs. platoon also uses one of those daughter boards.

    This is my sort of video... to bad Nintendo didn't do what SNK did. Use Cartridges. Swaping Roms is a pain in the ass. and never reverse the order of the PPU... It will fry it. At least they refined their way on the Playchoice 10. More or less of a cartridge system. Plug in and pray...
