    That RF tire has a directional arrow so did you take that tire off and turn it around on the rim when you put it on the LR so it's still travelling in the right direction?

    Good thing this wasn't a full time AWD drive train. It's my understanding that 2 new and 2 used tires on AWD will cause havoc to the differential clutch.

    • @snoopdogie187
      @snoopdogie187 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, most awd prefer all tires be the same. It helps keep everything rotating the same.
      If tires are a little different, sometimes you will notice something is off when driving or turning.
      Really, if you can't afford 4 new tires, its better to find similar used tires that match your other tires, and just run those until you can get new tires.

      Yep, if you happen to have a large suv containing a truck transmission and transfer case, other things will break such as ball joints or half shafts. Seen it happen before with a vehicle that had 3 different tires.

    On the flat left rear, I made it to Guiteirres brothers on peckham & airway. There, I got two good used tires, mounted & balanced. I was lucky though, cause the front is where all the weight of the car is. God help you if the flat is in the front tire. You'll need a can of air, or roadside assistance.

    How do I fix a brake caliper that makes crunching creaking noise when I press on the brake?

    • @mercury-nc4tm
      @mercury-nc4tm 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      your brake calipers will require service immediately - you will have to remove the caliper, pull the pads, have the rotors machined(if required), install new pads(only if the old ones are worn out or you machine the rotors), clean and grease the caliper mounting points including bolts and reinstall the caliper. This should solve your problem.

  • @kingkevin267
    @kingkevin267 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You forgot to mention a couple things. First, if your balancing a new tire, on a old rim, don't forget to remove the old weights. Second, when you use those torque bars, don't forget to turn the gun to the lowest setting. I have seen so many people snap those bars in half, because they leave their gun at full strength and use it. Next to those people arguing about weather new tires should go on the front or rear, please stop it is pointless. No one would ever notice the difference in grip from the new tires or old tires. The car should not spin out because the old tires on the rear. If there is that big of a difference, or if the car loses control because of the tires, then it means the tires are to worn and it is time for new ones. You could argue new tires should go no the rear, so the rear doesn't slide out, or you could new tires should go on the front, so your steering tires have better traction, and thus better control. But as side the difference between the new tires, and old tires is very little, unless the old ones are so worn it is time to replace them also. The only important thing to do, so make sure the two tires on the drive axle are the same. In this case the car is front wheel drive, so make sure the front tires are either both the old ones, or both the new ones. The reason for this is because the old tires are slightly worn, thus a slightly smaller diameter, and because are a different brand, and tread pattern, do have different traction. So if you put one new tire, and one new tire on the front, one tire is going to spin faster than the other, and that can cause internal damage inside the transmission. So this does mean that on a all wheel drive car, all 4 tires should match in brand, tread pattern, and for the most part wear.

    When you swapped the front right tire to the rear left, did you flip the tire around on the rim to make it run in the proper direction? it looked like the rear right side tire was a directional tire so I assumed the right front one was also. if not, no big deal, I was just curious!

Don't forget to add labor charges as well.

  • @timm.6391
    @timm.6391 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Technically, you should put the newest tread on the back, I'll explain.
    Seems on a front drive car you'd put them on front, however. You as the driver can input control to the front.... the rear depends on tread, alignment, tire pressures, etc. So, best tread is best used in the place you have the least control. As the tread stands to help you on its own in poor weather. No matter if rear drive or front drive, it's best to put new rubber in the back of the vehicle. Everyone figures this obvious for rear drive, but never consider the factor it has in front drive.

    • @hhhhhhhhhhhhh4927

      @@Nick-ko1tw Yes your Dad is wrong. Braking shifts your car weight to the front and reduces traction in the back. Add in some bald tires at the back, a slight turn and some rain and your car will be spun around in traffic.

      Common convention says to put newer tires in the back as the rears are very important for stability. I guess you could say to put them on the drive axle from a performance standpoint, until it rains lol.

    • @kingkevin267
      @kingkevin267 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      But what about steering, you put them on the back to help limit spinning out, but then when you do, you have no control because your steering wheels, the ones on the front, don't have enough traction. This argument of weather to put new wheels on the front or the rear is pointless. There would be very little noticeable difference between weather the tires where on the front or rear. If there was that big difference then it would be because the other two tires are to worn, and should be replaced.

    Despite the fact that every tire manufacture recommends that new tires be mounted on the front. He mounts them on the front 🤯.
    You're back tires have the worst traction in braking situations as weight shifts from the back to the front. Why would you want to make that situation worse by putting the tires with less tread on the back? What do you think happens when you emergency brake in a curve with old tires on the back? Yes, the back end wants to throw your car into a spin.
    I'm not a mechanic nor a tire expert but I'm able to figure out basic physics. It's sad watching this video.
