- We arrive at Helsinki, Finland airport on a flight from London, and take the train into the city center, then walk to our studio apartment in the Katajannoka district. We walk on Pohjoisesplanadi, a beautiful street of outdoor cafes and art galleries, lining a linear green park called the Esplanadi. Finally, we arrive at my apartment located in a trendy district of restored warehouses, and I give you a tour of my studio apartment.

For others: the same ticket that gets you train from Airport to the City also applies to trams and busses for a combined total travel time of hour and half or so (depending on how many zones you bought), so you could have also taken a tram from Central Railway Station to Katajanokka instead of walking all the way.
Also, Helsinki region transit system has a nice mobile app that allows you to plan these routes, showing total times by various combinations and helping you navigate when you walk.
But we got to see Pohjoiseplanadi this way
Everywhere so clean. No bottles, cans or fast-food containers etc! I,m impressed.
What, how Else?
The thing is that in Finland, you get a small fee for bringing bottles and cans to recycling points, so people like picking them up.
Nice video. I like to watch foreign tourists' videos about my home country, because then I can often see it from a little different point of view. I live in Espoo which is the western neighboring municipality to Helsinki and of course a part of the greater Helsinki metropolitan area.
Glad you enjoyed the video! And you're not alone, as it appears to be the fastest-growing video I've published, with the majority of viewers from Finland! -WMM
@@WheresMyMap yeah, we have nothing better to do than to google ourselves. finns are very insecure and need affirmation by foreigners haha..
Puisto is park and puutarha is garden. Also there is a small grocery store in basicly every neighborhood in Helsinki. It's important for us to have a convenient life.
Visited Helsinki many times, absolutely love it. You should check out another city in Finland called Tampere. Reached easily by train😊
I loved Helsinki and would love to go back to Finland to visit some other intereresting cities. I'll look up Tampere. Thanks for the tip! -WMM
@@WheresMyMapAlso recommending you to check North Karelia region. Lieksa has great nature spots to check out.
The tram you saw at the end, it runs from in front of the train station to Katajanokka as well. Def no need to walk for 20 mins with luggage :P
And you already had ticket from airport to railwaystation train. It's valid for trains, trams, metro and busses in ABC area for 90 minutes. Not for long distance trains or busses.
That's good to know now, but if I didn't walk I wouldn't have this video -- and at >20K views and still growing, my most popular video of the 500 I've published! It was worth the walk. :) -WMM
4 number tram and faceing east. Station behind you go left ❤
1:14 LOL The one kid getting possessed while waiting for the train. :P
I've to Helsinki twice. Once in 1986 and 2023.
I am very surprised to see a modern Helsinki now. People are better well off. Finland is my favorite country now. The only problem for me is the price of beer. Too expensive. I will be back next summer. Watch out girls! Cheers from Brazil.
It's my first time on your channel and I absolutely love it! I will be in Helsinki in December 2023, so this is really helpful! Thank you and happy travels 🙂
Thank you! Welcome, and have a great time in Helsinki - it's an awesome place. -WMM
Wow, You really do good work. Nice quality sonud and pic. Luv
Thank you! Glad you appreciated my work. -WMM
The Airport rail connection is relatively new. Before the completion of the Ring Rail Line in 2015 (AKA "Heart rail" due to its shape), which connects the Airport to the Helsinki metropolitan area, the passengers only had a bus connection between the airport and Tikkurila train station.
There were also buses between the airport and Rautatientori
Nobody calls it "Heart Rail".
Such a nice calm video. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Helsinki FI.
I enjoyed it very much. thanks. -WMM
I liked that every street you walked on there seemed to be some kind of rock music being played somewhere... It seems like a very musical city and a city for Rock lovers 🤘
if anything, I'm a huge fan of the Finnish band HIM which is now sadly extinct but hopefully they reunite someday for some touring, I saw them live, tight band too excellent sound, not sloppy at all
Most metal bands per capita in Finland. So yes we are definitely in to rock and metal.
@@WithJupiterInMind Not the band HIM necessarily anymore, but Ville Valo still tours as VV and he does play old HIM songs on his setlist too! Check out VV Neon Noir tour.
You can really feel that you are moving in such an interesting way and I really love looking at the world thru your eyes! Thank you for this!
A very interesting footage. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. -WMM
"Puisto" means park, not garden. Garden is "puutarha" in Finnish.
Also, I know you probably preferred the walk but it should be noted that with the same ticket you bought for the train, you could have used the trains, trams, metros (subways) and buses in the capital city area for like a couple of hours or so, including a tram to the hotel. Just in case anyone reading this is planning a trip to Helsinki thinking they'd have to walk.
Yes, I've been informed of both things by other viewers. As for the decision to walk, without the walk there would be no video and therefore no comments on the video. So the walk was worth the effort. -WMM
the sausage in the building at 11:21 was for cars. There was originally a ramp to get up in there and idea was to have a drive-in shopping centre. Guess how well that worked?
Kiitos! Mukavaa katsella kotikaupunkia ulkomaalaisen silmin. Tämä kirjoitettu tietenkin suomeksi...
Ole hyvä! Kiitos kun katsoit ja jätit kommentin.
My beautiful home city 😊
I used to live at Noli Studios as well like 7months 😅
u should be able to use the same ticket to catch a tram to katajanokka
The most popular of Your videos ❤️
Yes, but Heathrow Arrivals video is catching up fast. People of Finland need to re-watch their videos to stay in first place! -Daniel
Привет.Великолепное видео 🎥
Thanks for watching! -WMM
Nice video. Did anyone addvice you that you can drink tap water in Finland, no need to spend your money on bottled water? That is a comfy studio.
YES! I bought a bottle of water before I was informed of such, then not again. Finland has the best tasting (and presumably purest and cleanest) tap water I have ever had! -WMM
you took the longer, but nicer way to helsinki from the airport
Yes, I think so too. It allowed me to make this video! -WMM
Thank you for a tour from Helsinki ❤ It's my loved home town. . IT WAS NICE TO SEE Helsinki ( a little part of it) from visitor eyes 😊❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it! I loved visiting your home town. -WMM
Not sure if you knew that the ticket that you bought for the train is valid also for the tram, bus, metro and the ferry.
I did not know that. But my ferry ride and tram ride wasn't until the next day (> 24 hours later than the purchase of train ticket), so not sure if that still works? There must be a time limit, I'm guessing. -WMM
Yes, each ticket has a fixed validity period depending on the ticket type. You can also purchase day tickets.
The same tickets are valid for trains, trams, buses, metro and Suomenlinna ferry. Only the validity period and zones matter, not the vehicle.
You could've taken tram number 4 or 5 from the Railway station to Katajanokka, because you've already paid for the local commuting (train) ticket. Oh, and it's pronounced Kha tah yah noc cha. Cheers!
Or taxi, but maybe he just wanted to walk :)
Yes, just wanted to walk. Otherwise, this video would not exist. :) -WMM
@@WheresMyMap Of course.
The first "Ka" is just ka with a hard and short k without the "kha".
And it's nickname is "Skatta" in Helsinki's slang.
Puisto is park and puutarha is garden in finnish.
you think he plans to learn finnsih for a tourist trip? :) I was impressed he tried to translate some words at all. dont ruin it... i think he was close enough.
@@zoolkhan I don't think teaching the correct words is "ruining it"
What setup do you use for filming?
You know if you bought a HSL ticket for the train you could just take a tram to Katajanokka (juniper nose).
Yes, I have now been made aware of that. :) -WMM
about word puisto= puisto means park and garden is in finnish called puutarha
Wouldn't you know, the one place online that I looked up the translation, they got it wrong (garden). Oh well. -WMM
No you most definitely are not saying that right 😂. ❤
But do I get an "A" for effort? -WMM
familiar sights.. i live 20km north from helsinki
💯
Kata-ya noc-ka(h).
The thing I need to remember next time is "J" should be spoken like "Y" to us Americans. -WMM
@@WheresMyMap J is pronounced like "jii" if pronounced alone, but it will almost never be a "ch" sound in Finnish like in English. It's exactly like you said, you pronounce it like a "y" in "yankee":D How you pronounced Katajannokka sounded more like "Catachanhoka":D
Half of the people you see on the streets are from other countries. Very international city!
no surprise as he moved in touristplaces all the time
the native population can be found outside of "downtown" (or behind the counters in the shops)
You had to add backround music on the quiet finnish streets, lol.
They are quiet due to a polite and respectful population. -WMM
Most of the World is loud enough.
You may not realise this, heh9392, but for our own health we do need to revert back to cities less polluted with noises.
And commercial advertisement boards.
And useless things scattered around here and there.
Really.
that fridge is haunted
Quite possibly, or else the optics produced by LED lights with the GoPro light sensor might give a wacky surreal effect to the image. -WMM
@@WheresMyMap it is kinda nice that they include a complementary ghost with the room tho
0:07 finland quiet people xD
I wish my neighbors were that quiet. -WMM
Puisto = Park
Puutarha = Garden
I too want a refrigerator that opens into other dimesions 26:06
They have them at Costco. -WMM
8:50 Burger King at the left❤
22:39 Scandic Hotel back door😊
I went inside the Scandic and it was very nice. The lady at the reception desk explained to me what tram to take to the ferry terminal and was very helpful. -WMM
"Downstairs" it's 25 meters underground at the airport 😅In it's deepest point the train goes 45 meters underground due to ground elevation.
That's some serious tunnelling. Watch out, Norway, you have competition. -WMM
Suomen kaunein kaupunki on Vasa. Itä -rajaa Venäjää kauempana. Rauhallisin paikka kaupungeistamme❤
Ehkä pääsen käymään siellä joskus.
2:05 line to airport is not straight so you can follow it as drunky
I bet most the viewers of this are Finns, there's something strangely autovoyeristic about us... Is that a word? It is now, I guess.
It's too cold in Finland.
No it's not.
well, today was the first time I put on shoes since May. still wearing shorts tho :)
it goes like this: 25c-5c: shorts. 5 - minus 20: long trousers and a simple jacket. under -20c winter clothes
1:33 yes yes katajannokka but not say it like indians xD
just say skatta :)
*_1_* The happiest, *_least_* corrupt countries with the *_highest_* standard of living in the world are the Nordic countries-Denmark (with its autonomous territory Faroe Islands and Greenland, part of Denmark), Finland (with its autonomous region Åland), Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. They are social democracies and most of their citizens speak English and are atheist, agnostic, or skeptic.
*_2_* Here are the top 10 happiest countries: 1 Finland, 2 Denmark, 3 Switzerland, 4 Iceland, 5 Netherlands, 6 Norway, 7 Sweden, 8 Luxembourg, 9 New Zealand, 10 Austria. Note that all but #9 are in Europe and that the five Nordic countries are listed. 💕☮🌎🌌
A lot of the people are atheist but not the most. In Finland the majority are Lutheran Christians, although that may be more of a cultural rather than a religious thing.
I wouldn't say as a Finnish person, that most people are Agnostic or Atheist. Most of us are a part of the protestant denomination Lutheranism, (after Martin Luther) thought we have 60k people country-wide in the Orthodox church of Finland, which I'm a part of. Our Orthodox church is autonomous and not a part of the Eastern Orthodox church. Almost no one lives religiously thought, so you could say most of us are secular Christians, who don't really practice the religion we're part of. We go like once or twice a year to church:D On christmas and easter. Like the other commenter said, it's more of a cultural thing these days and if you would go ask a person on the street, that do they believe in God, I don't think many people would say they believe in a God.
Also now that we're talking about rankings I got tell the story about Jari Aarnio. We used to be the most nom-corrupted country on Earth, but in 2015 the head of KRP (KeskusRikosPoliisi/CentralCrimePolice, basically DEA & FBI combined) Jari Aarnio got caught for trafficking millions euros worth of different drugs to Finland for years. So he had been a part of a major international drug operation (that all the other Nordic countries head police chiefs were apart of too) as the head of KRP, so that time we went from the most non-corrupted country to the third most non-corrupted country, because of one man😂
i've lived in helsinki for 15 years, here's some advice. do not go to helsinki
Too late now. -WMM
Helsinki is not Finland than rest of the country is suffering
Suffering? I would say the quality of life is way better outside Helsinki on average. Of course the wealthy people live in central Helsinki.
