@@scottwilliamson8887 I think it's possible to like Johnny Marr and still think it silly to consider him the "best guitarist." It's probably silly to call any single player the the best, for that mater. Marr's a very tasteful, subtle player (and seems to be a great bloke) but there are plenty of players out there who are more original, creative, versatile and technically proficient and no less expressive. None of which should detract from Marr's own brilliance.
Interviewer: What color is the guitar again Johnny? Johnny: It's Sherwood Green Interviewer: It's so beautiful it reminds me of Viko mint biscuit wrapper from the 80's. Is that what you were going for. Johnny: No. lol.
around @3:00 Marr began softly playing this charming man …but then stopped bc the convo continued. dammit we were that close to hearing the master play it guitar-only
To the people not understanding the interviewers persona, he and johnny are actually good friends and hang out, he plays guitar also and plays johnnys guitars, The Smiths was his childhood favourite band. So be a little bit more forgiving. Its so easy to hate, but it takes guts to be gentle and kind.
lay off Keaveny he's a sick man and he and Johnny know each other. Johnny doesn't seem annoyed so why does everyone feel the need to get annoyed for him
Could anyone who's owns Boss gt 100 tell me what the detune effect is and what pedal it's modelled on? I've been looking for a sound like that for sometime, and as they pointed out chorus is done to death!
Christ Almighty, so many people bitching about this invterview without the faintest idea that they know each other pretty well. (Johnny Marr owes Shaun £10, it is a running joke. So just calm down, everyone who is apoplectic about the interview technique in this clip...)
Definitely agree on James Williamson-one of the greatest rock guitarist and Raw Power is an amazing album which delivers on the title. Of course, if you are going to make a list of the greats, Marr has to be one of those at the top of that list
Love this! They obviously are are familiar and comfortable with each other, don’t know what all the shit comments are about. Johnny Marr is my favorite guitarist of all time❤️✌🏻
¿Es idea mía o hay algo "sospechoso" en la manera en que ese entrevistador acaricia la guitarra de Johnny? Me gustan las manos de Johnny en 3:57, están muy cuidadas y bien pintadas.
If that guy could have shut up there would have been way more of what everyone wanted to see. He interrupted every time he was going to play something...
Don't understand the hate directed at the interviewer - really...? Johnny has always had a rather sardonic wit and I think the interviewer is trying to be similar and connect with J - maybe not your cup of tea but hardly the worst interviewer ever
haha Shaun's dry, dower northern style has been completely lost on all the yank Marr fan boys out there haha, i bet they'd love to read this comment section 😂
"the technicality of jimmy page" "cough" am not really having a go at jimmy page or anything he is one of my guitar heroes of course but i don't know about him being that great in technique or at least enough for it to be something he would be known for, i'd say he was one of the greatest guitar songwriters and a great lead player but i dont know about technique
Love Johnny Marr guitar genius,,,,but Brian May another guitar 🎸 genius,,could keep going on,,,but they are all master’s of their craft,,,to them it’s a job that they enjoy,,🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Shaun Keavenly does ruin what could have been a good interview. He should have asked Marr to play the chorus of what difference, Marr never plays the chorus for some reason.
Cringeworthy with that dodgy interviewer, all great guitarists like Johnny Marr have their own sound like great bands regardless of special effects pedals, rare nowadays you can distinguish different guitarists, musicianship is a dying trade/hobby sadly.
Marr was a gentleman - this interviewer is a complete bozo, wow! Give the man some personal space, for goodness sakes! talk about your unlikeable close talkers, yikes!
He's the best guitarist in my eyes, I love melodic guitar music.
How does it mean I don't like guitar music ? lol I love guitar music and I play guitar.
why do people like you always need to put people's opinions down? Jesus christ
also if you don't like Johnny Marr why are you watching videos of him? Either get outside or watch videos of people you actually like
Jon Hill Check my latest then, Jon.

0:22 Johnny forgot for the second time that his blazer didn't have a pocket

@@whippetvonsleipner3488 congrats on easily the most exciting handlename in all of youtube
Its great to see Johnny using the Boss GT-100!
WHY IS HE STANDING SO CLOSE TO JOHNNY
The messiah's touch heals all.
Why do you think his hand was missing
They are actually good friends and hang out.
Before social distancing
@@AmazinglyGayPhil what are you, his agent ?
The most underrated guitarist ever.
It's actually a lot closer to Sage Green, rather than Sherwood, but hey, if Johnny Marr says it's Sherwood Green, then it's Sherwood Green.
Except, even Fender has different takes on their "Sherwood Green". It's quite a difficult color to replicate to everyone's liking.
I say it’s Sherwood green
Aged Sherwood Green would look quite sage-y.
No one likes a smart arse
Except you’re watching a video and he made it.
The thing I like about JM is that he always seems like a gent and a nice guy.
around @3:00 Marr began softly playing this charming man …but then stopped bc the convo continued. dammit we were that close to hearing the master play it guitar-only
*****
Sounds like a part of Girlfriend in a Coma to me. Although the riffs are very close.
Sounded a bit like the main riff from Ask too
It blows my mind the way he's able to play the way he does with his strap set so low
Johnny Marr is a top geezer.
Probably the best Johnny Mar interview ever...him and Johnny are best mates and ya can tell....thay are in the same darts league. .
To the people not understanding the interviewers persona, he and johnny are actually good friends and hang out, he plays guitar also and plays johnnys guitars, The Smiths was his childhood favourite band.

I love this comment. Thank you!
I just thought he was your garden variety annoying, attention seeking, egocentric toolbag
Bit O Dee-Laaay!
TJ Higham mod-yew-lation
I wish I could stand that close to J Marr
LEGEND! Lovely insight.
Maida Vale,I recorded a Peel session there with my old band in April 1986.
Love you Johnny see you kick ass in Pomona, CA on December 16th
lay off Keaveny he's a sick man and he and Johnny know each other. Johnny doesn't seem annoyed so why does everyone feel the need to get annoyed for him
Sherwood Green and Shoreline Gold are the classiest of all fender colours.
typical radio DJ never knows when to shut up.
"Johnny can you play something so I can talk over it?"
Awesome
I've got a pair of those shoes , they're Clarks Originals Weavers .
Good, but Marr is a guitar god, not a guitar hero.
Guitar God's broke the mould after Johnny! :)
Could anyone who's owns Boss gt 100 tell me what the detune effect is and what pedal it's modelled on? I've been looking for a sound like that for sometime, and as they pointed out chorus is done to death!
Personal space!

Nice use of “apoplectic” ;)
They'll all a little bit jealous of him as he's clearly pretty good mates with Johnny.
Some folks are just way too uptight.
Definitely agree on James Williamson-one of the greatest rock guitarist and Raw Power is an amazing album which delivers on the title. Of course, if you are going to make a list of the greats, Marr has to be one of those at the top of that list

Anyone know the Nile Rodgers song Johnny’s playing at 4:55 ? Cheers in advance
The best guitarist with the worst interviewer.
true!!
Matteo Prezioso , they're mates
can someone tell which nile rodgers' song he played at 4:53?
i want your love i believe
“is that what you were going for” “no.”
If that guy could have shut up there would have been way more of what everyone wanted to see. He interrupted every time he was going to play something...
Did Johnny also play a little of Some Girls are bigger than others ?
No
1:48 what difference does it make
hey ! don't touch the guitar without permission... interviewer is an idiot
You have a gift for understatement
"Classic standing on top of a hill, helicopters swirling around you".... strange but I totally understand what hes saying
Can the interviewer get any closer to Johnnys face? Literally breathing over him
Bit of a weird question, but does anyone know the shoes he's wearing?
Was looking through the comments for same reason lol.
NEVER TOUCH ANOTHER GUITARISTS GUITAR WITHOUT ASKING
I persoally wouldn't like it if someone touched my guitar or asked about my gear plus the interviewer is kinda CREEPY
Don't understand the hate directed at the interviewer - really...? Johnny has always had a rather sardonic wit and I think the interviewer is trying to be similar and connect with J - maybe not your cup of tea but hardly the worst interviewer ever
Lesso to all guitar players! if multi fx is good enough for Marr! you can't argue :)
Oh, but that "fairly straight sound"...dear God, comes out of 2 phenomenal Fender black faces. It's an astonishing sound.
ahm home merr
Johnny Marr is God.
if that guitar wasnt there that dude would be touching Johnny's johnson
besides johnny marr i would say my other guitar hero is jimmy page
we have the odd jef beck

Dammit! Every time Johnny starts to play this clown starts chirping!
A bit of Dee lay
Somehow the interviewer feels like Will Ferrellish
Feel a bit of a dick but could anybody tell em the riff at 4:55?
Could Keaveny get any more uncomfortably close?
the editor cutting away when he does the riff to what diff does it make! IM GONNA videogame you to hell
Idk why I felt so uncomfortable when he started touching his guitar
ah thought they were going to play guitar.
The interviewer is not that bad
Oy. Bellent.
Thank you Sean ???!!! Why !!!????
Let him play and shut it
“deelay” 🤦🏼♂️
Was loving the bit when he played what difference does it make then this div shouts over it ffs
Too short.
Shaun Keavenly does ruin what could have been a good interview. He should have asked Marr to play the chorus of what difference, Marr never plays the chorus for some reason.
I don't know why some of these jokers even have a job in BBC radio and Johnny Marr seems a bit awkward through this too
Obviously the BBC's definition of a guitar hero is anyone who can strum a few chords.
I’m sure if he was “just strumming afew chords” he wouldn’t be selling out venues around the world
Cringeworthy with that dodgy interviewer, all great guitarists like Johnny Marr have their own sound like great bands regardless of special effects pedals, rare nowadays you can distinguish different guitarists, musicianship is a dying trade/hobby sadly.
The bbc at its worst
Yah sorry, I think Busted were already booked somewhere else...

Shaun.. little advice, don't fucking ever touch another man's guitar without permission.
Bloke in check shirt should shut it & listen
The uber GAYNESS video
this DJ guy is annoying, right in johhny's face too.Pratt !!!
The host is a weirdo
that interviewer should have been fired.
Marr is ok at best.
Marr was a gentleman - this interviewer is a complete bozo, wow! Give the man some personal space, for goodness sakes! talk about your unlikeable close talkers, yikes!
Annoying guy the interviewer. Don't ask to hear him play if you're just gonna speak over it
That was a very gay interview
Would have been a better interview if the interviewer could just chill, and not be such a blabbermouth.
...average guitar player, great song writer.
Shred all you want, but until you actually create licks and riffs like This Charming Man, then you can't label others as "average guitar player".
Try watching all the top guitarists playing a Marr riff... JDB "fuck sakes, I used to be able to play this" :D respect :)
what a pair of middleaged divs
