    People pick on how people on the south drive in "snow" but mind you NC snow is accompanied more by slush and ice PLUS I've seen several videos of people from the north and Russia driving just as bad. Our roads also don't get salted and scraped as much or as well as they do in places that get snow on a regular basis. Lived my whole life in NC. 2018 was a rough winter- 11 inches of snow with an 1 or 2 of ice (Greensboro) and i was amazed when i moved to ohio and saw how smoothly everything runs up here when its snowing

      It's actually really simple. Drive very slowly, turn very slowly, avoid hills at all costs, and gently hit the gas pedal. When coming down an icy hill, shift into a lower gear (automatic or manual transmission) so the engine slows you down. Then all you do is press the brake gently and let the engine do all the work.

    It snows only a few times a year here. Most natives stay home, make a nice pot of soup, play with the kids and wait as it usually melts in 1-2 days. Most people out and about are transplants here and not used to the ice that always accompanies Southern snows. The transplants gripe becasue the road clearing equipment is limited but like the low tax base which has to go up to buy snow equipment that sits idle 360 days of the year. Your condescending comments are noted but I assure you as a native you are talking about your own kind.

    My husband-to-be moved from central Texas to north-eastern Washington state, driving a 2WD GMC pickup. I asked him if he was planning on replacing his truck with a 4-wheel drive, and he said he'd never seen enough snow here to need one. Up to that point we'd get 2 or 4 inches at a time, then it would warm up and melt away, for a couple of winters in a row. Luckily, he had bought that 4WD when we got 18 inches of snow in a couple of days. Unluckily for him, he had driven my Subaru to the airport for a fast business trip to Seattle. Spent the night at SEA-TAC because the plows here at the airport couldn't clear the snow off the runways fast enough to let a plane land safely. By the time he got back to our airport, the car was completely buried, with the shovel in the back of the car.

    Great video! Lots of problems here, but all understandable. North Carolina doesn't get enough snow to justify having sufficient snow removal/salting equipment. The drivers and cars aren't prepared for snow because snow rarely occurs here. It all equals one big occasional mess. The best advice for folks in this situation: stay at work or school for 24 hours after it snows while finding a northerner near you to take you home.

    For all of you asking why no snow tires? It's because Central and Eastern North Carolina rarely sees snow so it's not worth purchasing and honestly I don't even know if snow tires are available here. Also since this state doesn't get a lot of snow we don't have a huge budget for road maintenance so the only thing that can be done is brine the roads. Well if it rains before the snow and most of our snow storms begins with rain then that brine is washed away. And for everyone screaming we just should've stayed home obviously has never had a job in retail. As a store manager for a big box retailer we're expected to be at work regardless and no we can't stay at our jobs overnight if the roads are too bad. Please don't judge unless you understand our circumstances. You guys act like snow is something we get often but I assure you it is not!

You won't stop any quicker in snow or ice with all 4 wheels locked an sliding than if you have 2 wheels sliding at least you can steer by having your front rolling !

      @Gary R So, yes, as i said: Tyres are correct. Tires are correct. Or what was your point?

    • @Xanthopteryx
      @Xanthopteryx 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Gary R The origin of tire/tyre is somewhat unclear, to begin with. And second, both forms has been around since 15-16th century so the form tyre is VERY old. And just because something is not known in the US doesn't mean that it's non existing. You know, there is a world outside the US, and TH-cam is part of that multinational multilingual world. I love language and language history and why words are spoken and written in a certain way, and when you dig deeper you will find out that a LOT of all the words you use has been changed over time regarding spelling and meaning. BTW, as an example, the word reflection: If you look at the etymology, it should be spelled reflexion. So you are spelling it wrong if you spell it reflection...

      Heads up! This is Raleigh, NC, in the SOUTH, where it snows once or twice a YEAR. Why would anybody buy snow tires? This isn't Philly. This isn't Sweden. If it snows at all, schools shut down, as do most businesses, and most people stay home.
