    Not sure what happened after the camera stopped, but it looked like he had fairly decent control of the truck based on the condition of the road. That’s one VERY skilled driver behind that wheel!

      The result of these videos has caused me to drive myself only when nessasary!! I now use public and taxi transportation which is only 35% safter!!! I drive a 3 cylinder smart car which is NO competition for a railroad engine or a city bus. Driving is not fun anymore!!! It's only for the brave of hart that enjoy death Defying experiences!!!! 🤣

      I drove big trucks cross country for about 15 yrs.
      I'm retired now. I've been in situations like that and it's nerve wracking. This guy did a good job. He was still on the road and the wheels were down. He wins.
      A drag chain on the trailer would have been easier on his heart. 😏

      Rides Mule what trailer? That's a flatbed truck with a dumpster on the back. Anyway if he'd have only chained when he stopped the first time.

      You're right, a drag chain on one outside rear dual BEFORE the hill would have done the trick. 90% of staying out of trouble is avoiding getting into a situation like that by using a rare thing called foresight. Nonetheless, he handled the situation pretty well after he was sliding. That was pretty tricky for a moment. 😱

    Put it in the lowest gear and stay off the brakes and might help to put the wheels on the right in the snow on the side of the road. Born and raised in NewEngland.

    He is just taking things slow to keep as much grip on the surface that he possibly can...I'd say that looked incredibly controlled compared to what I'd call an out of control truck...Or as my driving instructor for my normal car drivings license would say "Did anyone get hurt? Were there any types of damage? No? It just took a little longer? Oh, so we got home safely?"

    One thing I learned driving a semi over the road years ago is ride the clutch not the brake on slick roads. My learning lesson was in Pennsylvania , a whiteout hit me and I was going down a steep grade I slammed and stood on the brakes went side ways and almost off a cliff got it back under control and starting working that clutch and barely the brakes and lived to tell about it.
    I was also the truck in 2000 that weaved through that big deadly pile up during that huge ice storm in OK city when it all broke loose because of 15 + truck convoy going to fast .But although that day I was the only truck that didn't crash, turnover or kill anyone during that pile up and came out right through the crashing I can honestly say God had the wheel. Oh but let me say I wasn't running with those guys but as soon as the last truck got ahead of me and they said come on man let's go all hell broke loose. I had to bob and weave but I got through it all and made it to the truckstop . It was terrible a lot of deaths and the roads were shut down a long time for that one.
    BUT I thank God Almighty I'm still alive.

  • @etiennedauphin
    @etiennedauphin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Born and raised in Canada. That road was a skating rink and to me that driver was barely in control. If there had been a car or a truck coming in the opposite direction, they were both doomed. I mean, when gravity is pulling a vehicle down the road’s incline you need better tires or a different plan to get to point B. He could have tried to put one wheel on the shoulder though, although my experience has been that it can also become covered in ice. In that case you end up just being closer to skid off the road completely.

    • @gravytrainoutdoors
      @gravytrainoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      100% agree. I always get a kick out of the keyboard warriors that say he was in full control and I was the one sliding all over the place. I sure as heck wouldn’t have wanted to see that truck sliding down the hill at me if I was driving up it. I’ve driven many miles in fully loaded trucks on roads like this and if there is any doubt… chain up. Then like you said, drive with a tire on either a dry patch or sand strip etc. Sometimes I would chain up a drag axle on my trailer before the start of a big hill where you take a long chain and drive over it then wrap the tire and hook it back on itself and then chain the other end to the frame. It will drag that tire and keep the trailer from getting away on you in a situation like this. This guy got lucky

    Wish I'd been able to post the high speed out of control/ controlled slide I watched on Rush Lake hill in SK. Old hand broke over the hill on freezing rain at 60 mph and kept it pointing in the right direction all the way down. everybody was on the side of the road because it was way too slick. they salted the road prior to the crest westbound and I guess he had no reason to think they were too stupid to do the downhill side.

    Truck is out of control and it is saved by hardened road edge. You can see that wheels are blocked all the way down. You want to keep in neutral all the way down, so that you got some steering steering and control. Here truck is in the mercy of road profile. And also needs to check grounding of the rear lights.

    "out of control truck:??? Where do you see that? You know nothing about driving a truck. He never once hit his brakes ( the flashers would have stopped and the brake lights would have came on ) He did a damn good job coming down a very slick hill. "narrowly missing sliding of the road".... point being he DID NOT SLIDE OFF THE ROAD !! and that was NO fluke !! People that post these misleading CLICKBAIT videos like you did are just another of the annoying aspects of the internet.

      @gravytrainoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ross Lambert not sure what your definition of being out of control is? He had next to zero control over his truck and it was all he could do to keep it out of the ditch. Classic keyboard warrior comment! Thanks for watching!

      @@gravytrainoutdoors Keyboard warrior ?? Well motor mouth I've been trucking OTR for 42+ years now with the last 21 as an owner / operator running up into the Yukon and Northwest Territories hauling specialized cargo. I'm accident free and have 3.2 million miles behind me. I am very much qualified to voice my opinion on this misleading clickbait video. The driver of that roll-off truck did a good job getting it down the hill ! So, genius, what did he hit ? Did he go off the road?? Did he damage the truck?? Did he endanger any other vehicles ?? I think even you can answer these questions.......

      Paradise Road it was so stupid, the guy had chains on his truck but couldn’t run them without taking the fenders off. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen other guys refuse to chainup until it’s too late. They either spinout and slid backwards off the road or spin the chains off their tires after throwing chains on after the fact

    Best thing that truck could've done, would be too get into the snow on the side of the road where he would have a little bit of traction. Or chained up. Did he make to the bottom without going in the ditch?

    Welp, well done buddy. You did good. Good job not freakin' out and standing on the brakes and coming off sideways. In this situation just remember more thinking and less feeling. Also, chain up next time. If yiute not prepared dont run ut ja section til' you are.
