I would rather ride a bike like this than a new Harley and I own two 1970's H-D's ( Newer ones are a joke ) I love these bikes ! I guess because these bikes have a lot of style and class plus a nice sound . Maybe because i have been working on these things for over 40 years. I don't like newer Motorcycles , no class , no heart and no soul . Trust me these older Honda Motorcycles have tons of soul . J-D

I used to have one of these motorcycles. I miss it so much. Nobody makes a bike like this, nowadays. Many a good memory on a Honda CB 350 back in the 1970s. I wish I had one now. Even the sound of it makes me wish I was twenty again. I miss my CB 350 so much.

They are getting more and more rare and more expensive. Back when I first got interested in these vintage Hondas you could buy them pretty often for $500-$1000. Now you get a rust bucket for that price. They are amazing motorcycles. I love the all mechanical systems of a vintage bike.

I had a 71 CB350. If I recall, the spec said the bike has 36hp @1,0600 rpm...but the tach hit the red line at 9,200rpm. I may be wrong but the spec indicated the top speed of 110mph, but I could only hit 92mph (speed meter indicated) at 9.200rpm and felt a lot of engine vibs on my hands & feet... The bike was very reliable and I had a great time when I was in high school. Such a great bike!!

As far as 'the most for the least' goes that HAS to be one the best motorcycles ever made: 105MPH+, light, sweet handling, reliable, economical and AFFORDABLE. It's the bike the British should have built if the pompous, self-satisfied twits who ran the companies had reinvested the profits of the 50s & 60s into NC equipment, R&D and staff training! A T100 Triumph that doesn't leak oil or break down!

They were just really lousy bikes. The Yamaha RD 350. Or the Kawasaki 400. Beat this by a wide margin. In speed and handling. Plus were way nicer than the Honda. I had SL 350 1972. It was a heavy off the road bike with little real off the road capabilities.
The CB 350 was just a mechanical nitemare to keep running well.
The Suzuki Samurai was the best in class .

Wow like new. I had one in the one year only color of Derby Green Metallic. Great machines 1968-1973 American baby boomers bought over 250,000 of them. 67,180 in 1972 alone. When I was in the Air Force in Mississippi our pay jumped from under 200 to 350 a month 🤣. Many airmen with their new wealth went to the Honda dealer and brought these back to the base. Automobile parking for enlisted was limited so these easily parked machines were just right. It was many an airman's main form of transportation off duty. Thank you for showing this beautiful machine.

I had one of these as well, bought used in 1978. It ran well but it was a bit disappointing in some ways. I was used to very fast two strokes like the Yamaha 350. This bike was slow in comparison. It also only got 50 mpg, which was disappointing. But it got me to work every day.

Next bike was a 1978 Honda CX500. Loved at first then came to hate it. Noisy valves, hard to start.
Next was a 1981 Honda CB750 Custom. LOVED IT but the rust killed her. Outdoor, no garage.
Next was a 1991 Honda Nighthawk 750. Ran great until 2018 when intake valve stuck. Been sitting in garage ever since.

Hey, I had a cl350 in the 70s, with the upswept “scrambler” pipes. Doubt there were more differences, lol. Heavy, slow, but cool. Could get the front up with enough throttle and drop the clutch. Mine needed a valve job at some point which I tried to do myself, with on;y two stroke prior experience, and mangled all the super soft aluminum they used. What a mess. But fond memories for sure.

    When I was 15, I bought a used 1969 VL350 in 1973 for $350. It had only 4500 miles on it.
Took it to the beach and parked it. When i came back, it was lying on the ground. Somebody hit and ran. Clutch lever busted, gas tank dented. I somehow managed to get it home.
Went to a salvage yard and found a red '73 gas tank, just like the one in the video. Ordered candy apple red side covers to match. Looked more like a CB than a CL with the different tank, so I bought CB exhaust pipes to replace the scrambler pipes.
Nice ride, could go 90 mph. Later added a bigger primary sprocket and it went 95 mph.

Had and loved that bike, same color, loved the back pressure when you let off to shift. Only drawback was it was no good on the highway, wound itself out and I was always looking for another gear.
But for an in town ride, the best, no wonder a lot of them got turned into cafe racers, my gripe with that is ... Why did you have to change anything.
    Thanks for the vid.
I built my first one from 3 frames and 12 boxes worth of parts when I was 16.

    • @3ll3nwood
      @3ll3nwood  ปีที่แล้ว +2

I would start by checking your timing (this is adjusted at the points) The procedure is described in the manual. Another simple idea is that your spark plug is fouled and needs to be replaced. You can actually remove the plug, put it in the plug wire and dangle it from the wire but touching the engine (so it is grounded.) From there you can kick the bike over and see the live spark arcing. If you see spark then you know it is not an electrical issue with a high degree of certainty.

Greetings from New Zealand. I rode one of these bikes for eight years and loved it. I put a pair of after market "mufflers" on it and it sounded awesome. It made an amazing snarling sound when I closed the throttles at high rpm. My biggest issue was having to strip the engine down every 12,000 miles or so and replace the cam chain, rollers and guides. The rollers were rubber and would break up. Twice the cam chain sawed thru the channel between the cylinders that it ran thru and flung oil out all over the engine. Did anyone else have that problem? I wonder if I should have had steel rollers made.
I now have a Kawasaki W650. (To me any bike without a parallel twin, or perhaps an inline four is not a real motorbike). I'm quite sure that my old 350 would eat the 650 on toast up to about 80 mph! I loved that bike and wish I still had it.
