Tip from a southerner for you and Eva - put a big fan under the boat. This isn't for the disrespectful florida heat although it helps. Mosquitos have a hard time locating you and navigating in wind, you should have less itchy bites.
Nice choice on cameras. My 5 ring cameras/doorbells/lights have held together well for 7+ years and the UI for the app is the best I’ve found for inexpensive home cams.
Wood chips are like 1/10 the cost of gravel. Enough gravel to make amy difference under that boat is going to cost thousands delivered there in Florida.
Lexel is some of the best stuff out there. When we did the Caribbean 1500 rally, one of the event speakers recommended that everyone have some on their boat in case of emergencies. He said it had saved him more than once. Will cure when wet and he has used to seal leaks while on passage. It’s also used in the construction industry as a sealant/adhesive.
My daughter and I were at the boat show Saturday. As we were leaving in the afternoon, we walked right past y’all going to what must have been your happy hour. By the time I realized it, we were a few steps past. Looked like y’all were “off the clock” didn’t want to bother. Been watching since the early days of Athena. Love the videos!
Love to see the channel at near real-time again. It was one of the things that made your videos so fun back when you were doing that somewhat extensive refit on Athena. I hope that sticker shock on delivered gravel in the Florida area isn't too bad. It might be at even more of a premium now after the storm.
Nice change to the channel with more involvement with Eva. Now start handing her the drill and saw. No reason she can't use tools. She just needs some practice like every beginner. Eva, go for it!
Nice video, couple things; I always put the workbench shelf rails to the inside of the legs so I don’t continually bump my shins on it, and I would definitely add some tie-downs the shed roof so it doesn’t flip over in a blow. Cheers and good luck.
Hey! We saw both you and Ava at the boat show however, you were chatting with a huge variety of people (You guys are quite the popular pair 🙂) and we didn't want to interrupt. Just wanted to drop a line and say thanks for all the great content for the past many years and next time well wait around a bit more and say hello! Keep it up you too and safe drive back south!
These wire-nuts were very common in the house electrical systems in the 60ties in the Netherlands I'm always surprised how oldfashened some safety critacle elements are in the US.
Unfortunately he painted it which should never be done on a workbench . The best covering is boiled linseed oil. That soaks into the wood, glues and other things will not stick to it.
All that when 2 SawHorses and a 3/4" 4x8 sheet of plywood held on by 4 Screws would have cost 25% of what they spent and could easily be disassembled and moved around or out of the way when not needed. It was just time and money wasted.
Tip for Eva, if you take brewers yeast tablets your body fragrance changes and the musquitos will ignore you more. Its also good for a lot of other things like healthy hair and nails.
We will often throw a large rug or carpet on the mud while camping in Mississippi. It can always be rolled up, moved somewhere and cleaned. Three large greeting mats like in the front of a business sit in our camping, equip ready for deployment. I got the idea from a book on teepees where the owner would use linoleum inside the teepees.
You should get a clear tarp to put over the stern and the rickety shed roof to keep the rain out of your work area. For your mud floor under the boat, lay down a bunch of used pallets cover with what ever sheet goods you can get cheap or just fill in the gaps from boards from salvaged from more pallets. tarpsnow has all sorts of tarp materials.
I take it the storm you mentioned in this video was not the big one from across the Gulf of Mexico and central Florida? I saw your video where you returned from Annapolis to ride that one out. But I have not seen an update, I truly hope and pray that everything is ok. If you have the time let us all know please.. Take care and so excited of the upcoming rebuild.....
Ring cameras aren’t all that bad. Of course you can always spend more and get better quality, but that applies to all products. The system they offer is pretty good considering the price. Generally you’d want a wide angle lens for surveillance.
Not sure if it is true but I was always told that everyone gets bitten by mosquitoes but only some people have a reaction to the them. That's why everyone is advised to get immunisations for mosquito borne diseases when they travel not just the people that get itchy reactions to the bites.
It’s probably too late Mads, but before you put the gravel I’d recommend digging some drainage channels to lead the water away from under the boat once it sinks through the gravel. Where I’m from we call these ag drains and the can be quite effective at making sure you don’t have water pooling and sitting under your gravel.
I hope the hurricanes didn't affect your boats , back in 1984 I moved to Florida for 45 minutes in August , had this hair brain plan of moving there , flew down in august to look at a marina for my boat , got off the plane the heat knocked me to the ground I went straight to the ticket counter and 45 minutes later back on a plane to Boston and 4 hours later back on my boat thinking , what the hell just happened !
Put down a couple of layers of geotextile membrane before you lay the gravel. This will keep the gravel out of the mud and allow the water to drain through👍
Hi Mads and Ava, It was nice meeting you at the Annapolis Boat Show Thursday. I am now back to working on my sailboat near Stuart, FL. Finishing up an extensive blister project on my '83 Morgan 39.
Wire nuts, I feel your pain! 🤓 Although they're still code-certified in the US many people are moving across to Wago connectors, or the Harbor Freight knock-off version.
If you are putting gravel down to mitigate the mud, put geotextile or similar down first, or the gravel will just sink into the mud. You could find used astro turf and have a nice grassy area all around the boat . In the Toronto area used artificial grass can be had for as little as $0.60 sq foot, sometimes less . Even used carpet it good
Good to hear that you didn't receive any damage during the storm. I evacuated Miami for Irma and that also didn't come to much (for us anyway) thankfully.
Lexel is some good stuff, we treat it like the ductape of sealant. It smells bad and is a bit tricky to work with but man it will seal up just about anything.
Late to the game this week, but seeing Mads suffer through imperial measurements gives me some form of sadistic pleasure. LOL. Sorry Mads, I flip between the two all the time. Been working in both units for 30 odd years myself so yea. Buwahahahaha. They do make sense to us. I get the Metric side, I do, but when working here with dimensional lumber you gotta know the imperial. :)
I usually don't like to complain but... As a European following you from the early days of Athena, I enjoyed you talking about measurements in the "metric" system and (as a consideration for the Americans viewers) you were giving on screen pop up in the corresponding "imperial" size. Now it's only inches and feets 😢😢😢😢 (sorry for the complain)
In 1969 I was schooled to be an electrician. The wring nuts - old ones in porcelain, bakelite - were in use in The Netherlands. Mostly due to the way dutch homes are wired (3 groups-breakers for a common household) in the US they like to have a breaker for each appliance. Wringnuts are not commonly used in home installations.
As you're going to be working under the cat for quite some time maybe you consider putting down an area of duck boards. Expensive to start but they'll stop any mud/grit from going aboard
Im telling you. Get yourself 3 or 4 Spartan misquote traps. At $25 a piece they might be expensive, but they work great. I use them here in Texas. Great content and sending positive energy your way. Thank you for sharing.
If you should get an urge to repaint the table at some point may I suggest green screen green. I would allow you to pull off some camera magic when you wanted to. (If not tie dye would be cool also). If you haven't already put down the gravel you might want to look around for a bunch of old pallets that people are getting rid of and using them for flooring.
Additionally, I suggest that once you get the trailer where you want it. Put it on blocks and remove the wheels. First, it is not fun to walk in to it and have it bouncing around on the suspension. Two, it is more secure without the wheels. Next, get one of those trailer hitch locks that locks a ball into the hitch. I can't recall if you had a power outlet on the outside that carries power into the trailer. That would be nice to power a charging bench for any cordless tools, cordless lights, etc...
Mads, don’t go to the dark side, keep metric, it seems most of the Americans are heading that way! I would recommend you remove the propellers and shafts for safe keeping. I am so looking forward to seeing you restore this boat. I used to watch Bryan and was disappointed when he stopped, obviously he had his reasons, I loved his sense of humour as much as yours.
Super excited that you got Bryan’s Antares. I think this will be the perfect project boat for you guys and excited to see how it progresses. Of course it will be a long road. Drove in to Annapolis this morning. Hope to see you at the show.
Instead of putting stone on the floor.. Acquire some plastic pallets lay them together then overboard with the cheapest , even used shutter ply you can find. . Makes a perfect raised waterprrof base for a floor. It's also resellable/recyclable when the project is done. Stone will just sink and sink.
Ive used many different types of security cams and ring have been best. Be aware there are tons of adjustments buried in the mobile app that are not available on the desktop website. Make sure to dive in and fine tune it to your needs.
Cardboard Aided Design !! Love that. I have an enormous heavy 30 ft measuring tape. Wish I could lend it to you. I use WAGO lever nuts sometimes instead of wire nuts. No need to splice anything. More bulky though. It was great that you made the boat show. We saw you Friday!
Great video!! Getting organized and de-cluttered has to be a huge relief. Also, the other table that is too low…measure the diameter of the table leg and add a piece of pvc pipe that will slip over the end of the table leg in the length that will give you the table height your want!
Heya, I would recommend using Dolomite sand instead of gravel for underneath the boat. The sand will compact hard ,making it easy to wheel things around and find things if you drop them on the ground. Not sure what it would be called in a America but in Australia it's called Dolomite sand and is used mainly for paths or underneath paving. Keep up the good work. D
Better safe than sorry. Very glad y'all and others are safe,we got hit by the first storm head on so not to bad like the poor folks that were on the east side of the storm. Still praying for them. The lean-to shade thing in my guess will outlast the catamaran even after you fix it up lol. In a war torn post apocalyptic world that 2x4 upgraded lean-to will still be there everything else will be gone lmao. Love you guys stay safe and keep up the great work
now that you are in america don't buy gravel from home depot! Go to a landscape place or road supply to get graded rock very cheap or even cheaper you could get millings from old asphalt road company in some cases they are just looking for a cheap place to dump! for working on a boat the white dust from grade #10, 57 or 67 would be best, from your situation it might be better to have larger #10 rocks to help stay on top of the mud as long as possible.
Tip from a southerner for you and Eva - put a big fan under the boat. This isn't for the disrespectful florida heat although it helps. Mosquitos have a hard time locating you and navigating in wind, you should have less itchy bites.
concur,
I use fans at work more for skeeter control than for the heat mitigation.
For me, Benadryl gel is great for making the itch go away faster.
Nice choice on cameras. My 5 ring cameras/doorbells/lights have held together well for 7+ years and the UI for the app is the best I’ve found for inexpensive home cams.
Eva is the mosquito anode.
I’d settle for one the swamp cooler like fans
The best sailing channel converting to imperial hurts my heart!
Freedom units! We don't use those french units in 'Merica 😉
Sailing?
C’mon Mads educate the simplest system.
OMG I was going to say the same thing. Mads you should know that you can still use metric in the states.
Yeah also noticed, weird to hear Mads using imperial units.
the bit at 3:43, Mads spinning in circles, trying to find that part he just had a minute ago.. so much exactly how I do projects Thanks for the video!
Love this new format, with more unscripted sections of the episode 👍
Bottle-jack hammering at 5:26. You've already fully leaned into Florida Man.
I love when you used the Jack-Hammer (5:24). That is my king of woodworking.
A hammer is an essential tool, and anything can be a hammer!
I was going to say "hydraulic press fit" but "jack hammer" is MUCH funnier! 🤣🤣
Landscape fabric is the best ground cover no weeds and limited mud. Give it a try.
it will only help if there are some rocks or woodchips on top to keep the puddles out of the shoes and the fabric from blowing away
Wood chips are like 1/10 the cost of gravel. Enough gravel to make amy difference under that boat is going to cost thousands delivered there in Florida.
Landscape fabric and gravel will make for a relatively dry working area... I'm glad to hear you guys weathered the latest storms OK!
Lexel is some of the best stuff out there. When we did the Caribbean 1500 rally, one of the event speakers recommended that everyone have some on their boat in case of emergencies. I am glad the weather was not bad for you guys
Love the new work area. Take care, and have a wonderful week ahead
Love to see the channel at near real-time again. It was one of the things that made your videos so fun back when you were doing that somewhat extensive refit on Athena.

Eva, go for it!
Hip hip!
Ava
I’m a carpenter in Australia and when we switched to metric I instantly threw my imperial tape into the bush, why punish yourself with imperial😂❤
Nice video, couple things; I always put the workbench shelf rails to the inside of the legs so I don’t continually bump my shins on it, and I would definitely add some tie-downs the shed roof so it doesn’t flip over in a blow. Cheers and good luck.
I can’t work in a chaotic mess either , it’s really getting organized now! Well done .
Glad to see you all bought that boat to get done. I was following the owner before and he stopped and you guys picked up on it
Hey! We saw both you and Ava at the boat show however, you were chatting with a huge variety of people (You guys are quite the popular pair 🙂) and we didn't want to interrupt. It looks like the "workshop" is coming along nicely. Have fun at the boat show and keep the good stuff coming.
" Annnnd that's what she said" @.16:05 blew coffee out of my nose!!! Thanks Mads.
He said 3-5 years like it was nothing. That’s confidence right there!!
Your channel is one of the very few that I can't wait to see every week. Love, love your boat build.
"We are not building fine furniture here" Goes on to design and build a table that could hold 3 tons and last 90 years plus.
What? No faring compound?
What no glorious sanding? He is starting to take short cuts.
Put lemon grass I think it is called around the boat , the mosquitos hate it, there also other remedies they don't like, Google it.

Three large greeting mats like in the front of a business sit in our camping, equip ready for deployment. I got the idea from a book on teepees where the owner would use linoleum inside the teepees.
Oh! They have such nice outdoor rugs! or even a roll of fake grass! lolz
Like the gray color on the new table. Things show up real nice.
Enjoy the videos.
Three to five years! Good luck, buddy!
And they had a perfect monohull lol
Thanks for the update guys.
Enjoy the boat show.🙂
Having your own mosquito bait is a blessing. Had the same on board 😁
Over building a table is always fun. I use ping pong tables because you can fold them up and move them around into different configuration.
Not sure if it is true but I was always told that everyone gets bitten by mosquitoes but only some people have a reaction to the them.
That's why everyone is advised to get immunisations for mosquito borne diseases when they travel not just the people that get itchy reactions to the bites.
You can lay down free pallets to mitigate the mud.
Great to see you two at the boat show today. Glad to see our CVHS grad rocking out on TH-cam.
5:17 ❤ the old music is back 😊
It’s probably too late Mads, but before you put the gravel I’d recommend digging some drainage channels to lead the water away from under the boat once it sinks through the gravel. lexel is an excellent sealant...lucky find
Thanks guys!
Lexel is a fantastic sealant. More like a caulk than an adhesive.
That's what she said!!
Put down a couple of layers of geotextile membrane before you lay the gravel. This will keep the gravel out of the mud and allow the water to drain through👍
No one has every struggled so hard to build a 4’x8’ table.
Hi Mads and Ava, It was nice meeting you at the Annapolis Boat Show Thursday. I am now back to working on my sailboat near Stuart, FL. Finishing up an extensive blister project on my '83 Morgan 39.
Wow, great progress, well done!
Wire nuts, I feel your pain! 🤓 Although they're still code-certified in the US many people are moving across to Wago connectors, or the Harbor Freight knock-off version.
Every time that noise gate fails and you hear the ambient noise level in that yard... 🚨🚨🚨
Can't imagine how loud it is in real life 😂
Cardboard -aided Design (CAD) is the best line I have heard in a long time... 🙂
I'm a fan and it's crazy that you will be less than an hour away from me when you get to Annapolis 😮
Consider a Stanley 2” tape measure - it makes inside measurements simple (just add 2”) and avoids adding fractions😀
Lexel is some good stuff, we treat it like the ductape of sealant. It smells bad and is a bit tricky to work with but man it will seal up just about anything.
Looking so much better
Late to the game this week, but seeing Mads suffer through imperial measurements gives me some form of sadistic pleasure. LOL. Sorry Mads, I flip between the two all the time. Mr Spiffy ( AKA ) Wood Mangler 😂 ... That's awesome!🤙
Contact a Fuel Dist. in Your area. They should be able to help You out with your Fuel Barrel. You Two are so much fun to watch. Be Blessed!!!
I usually don't like to complain but...

Get a thermacell. Will clear out the skeeters. They work excellent.
As you're going to be working under the cat for quite some time maybe you consider putting down an area of duck boards. Expensive to start but they'll stop any mud/grit from going aboard
Put shipping pallets down on dirt then 1/2 inch plywood or osb . To keep you out of mud. Love the show.
CAD Skills! Love the dry wit!
Great entertaining video you will soon be all sorted and then the boat work will commence 😊
Im telling you. Get yourself 3 or 4 Spartan misquote traps. At $25 a piece they might be expensive, but they work great. I use them here in Texas. Great content and sending positive energy your way. Thank you for sharing.

As for heating reserve judgement until winter. Florida can get cold. They occasionally even get hard freezes.
"That's what she said " awesome!

These videos are captivating, but short!! 🫤
I'm happy with ring

I am so looking forward to this project! I am definately living vicariously through your amazing project :D
Hope you and the boats survived without too much damage following the recent hurricane'sthatbhit Florida, Milton especially looked horrific ❤
Great video!! Getting organized and de-cluttered has to be a huge relief. Also, the other table that is too low…measure the diameter of the table leg and add a piece of pvc pipe that will slip over the end of the table leg in the length that will give you the table height your want!

Love you guys stay safe and keep up the great work
And please give us a Milton update. I know this was filmed before you had to come back from Annapolis.
I too have used a "Jack hammer" in the past... When things just need a tap. 😂
You should've got a German shepherd instead of all those cameras 🐕 😅😂😊
Hi, thanks a lot for this new video! you are so pozitive and it charges me with pozitive too! God bless you and your friends!🙂
now that you are in america don't buy gravel from home depot!
Next hurricane the lean to is history 😅😂😢
Hope all is still okay, the diesel one would use in a diesel heater you can buy on line ,it can get cold where you are,
put a layer of sand and patio blocks down for flooring
Yes the blocks can be resold. Gravel is tiring to walk on.
