That wedge lock design is brilliant. I have a swing out bike rack and it flops around in the receiver so much it looks like my jeep is wagging its tail like a dog
The wedge is a copy of the Wilco wedge used on my Offset model and others. Rattle free for 3 years now. The Rig'D carrier doesn't hurt departure angle like the Wilco. Wished they had been around when I bought the Wilco.
I was behind a RV with 3 kids bikes in rear hitch. I think almost a full foot from bottom, to top of range. Funny thing (to me) the decent looking RV ladder was just off center. As in super easy to hook a rope, bungee… to stabilize. I wonder if bikes useable, or if hitch metal stressed, broke later?
One concern if you tow after this. Yes it’s rated. But the stresses are changed. LEVERAGE. You have extended hitch nearly a foot? If you tow heavy. It will change how it tows. I suggest taking it easy until you adapt.
@@madcratebuilder There are tons of companys that make wedge lock hitch accessories. Ive seem them on bike rakes, tire carriers and even on normal hitch receivers.

That's a well designed tire carrier. It'd be handy to have a built in table to cook on instead of using the tailgate.
Love the idea to put a tyre rack O na hitch receiver.
As I saw the handle to release the swingout, I was thinking "that will surely trigger some folks to pull it passing by, and starting off, that thing is gonna swing out at the next curve."
Thus, I would have liked to find a key lock securing that handle.
I have this exact tire carrier on my XJ. As far as tire carriers go it’s great, but certainly not a sleek look and I dislike how bulky it is but that’s life..and I would recommend it highly.
I never get "tired" of your videos. It's an awful "racket" you get yourself into sometimes. But it's always interesting and informative with honesty. I like the idea of all U.S. made, even though I'm Canadian. I like the word versatile which describes your work and the product. 😍🌠

I've never understood it and will never do it. I don't care what a product looks like fresh out of the box, I care what it looks like and how it functions after it's been used for a bit. I get "sponsor" offers for products all the time that require unboxing, and require that the review video be posted within one week of receiving the product, and I refuse every one. How the hell is anyone supposed to review the quality and reliability of a product when they only have a few days with it before they have to put out on the internet how great it is??

Casey, love your channel sir, living here in the UK I am jealous of the wide open spaces and fun you guys have out there, trying to go wheeling in the UK ends up with grumpy dog walkers berating you constantly and eco hippies screaming at you for "ripping up the environment man" its a major bummer when your trying to have a fun day out!

I was like hmm... nah. But it's actually pretty impressive. I remember someone going through their facility a while ago... Maybe it was you and thought it was cool. Not bad at all 👍

Right before you said that you can put it on any vehicle with a receiver, I was thinking "I could buy one tire carrier for both Jeeps; I definitely need one of these."
The universal adapter plate is a great idea. You can not only put it to a different car, you can also carry a tire for a different car. Neighbor helps so many people with punctured tires, that he moved his spare tire on the roof rack and uses the hitch mount to carry other tires.
The 360 cam when you were wheeling around was some of the coolest footage I've ever seen on this channel. You should definitely keep it up, once you figure out a better mounting solution.

It's a great product for its purpose. The only problem I see (or don't see) is it hides the rear license plate, and I think that is illegal in every state, even Oregon. I think showing how you resolve this issue is important enough to include in a future video. Speaking of which, I always enjoy your videos, but especially those involving your cute family. Keep 'em comin'.
It has a license plate mount on the tire swing. I didn't need to do that because it doesn't block the plate on my Jeep

That would definitely be something I'd invest in for a Jeep especially. My own preference was the old CJ5s.

Love your channel. Used to be tow truck operator. Chevron jarrdan and Holmes 440.also rollback. liked 440 a lot Chevron was a recovery truck 4x4. My favorite Jeep to drive wasn't a Jeep but a53 Willy's pick up I could not have driven it like you do yours. Thanks again for your channel.
I’ve been making wedge lock Moto hitch racks for 20 years. Great and very simple system. Use at least a 5/8” bolt, as you have to hit pretty hard to release the wedge.

that 360 makes your jeep look like such an awesome toy it is hard to believe its a real jeep. the sound brings back fond memories of barely hanging on to the back bench of my buddies v8 jeep with no top...or roll bar to speak of :)

Hate that your bumper won't support the carrier maybe you should get up with Paul at Fabrats and collaborate maybe y'all could design and weld up a bumper that could be multipurpose maybe even air tight to double as a air tank so you don't have to wait on the compressor to build up when you have to air up the little old lady's tires when you're called out for one of those triple a calls you love so much.
No need for that, Paul isn't the only one who owns a welder... I'm plenty capable of building what I want myself, and it's already done.

I love it I want one for my f150 it's hard to find something big enough and strong enough to hold a 37 inch tire and still looks good plus doesn't take your box space (especially with a short box)

Casey, I have 2 6,000 lb Winches I made reciever mounts for. I also welded a stinger set up on my 2 car trailers so I could use the winches on em . They have a quick connect battery hook up at the rear of my vehicles so it's pretty much just plug and play .
I don't know what was more of a test on the monster jeep, the cool design of rig'd rack or your 360 camera surviving tree smacks lol
Heh heh when I saw the thumbnail, I thought the tire swing was a total fail but now that I watched the video I see it was the bumper on the new Jeep that was the fail. Looks like an awesome product

Yep, it's expensive, but FAR cheaper than buying a quality bumper and tire carrier for more than one vehicle!

On my YJ, I have a EAG bumper that looks just like the one on the TJ6. I've been beating it on the Rubicon lately and for sure it wouldn't support that carrier. That looks like one of the best ones out there

My Thule bike rack that I bought a few years back uses a wedge system also. Having a wedge is totally awesome.
I believe they were at Overland Expo West this year in Flagstaff. Regrettably I passed their booth as I already have a bumper mounted tire carrier for my 40" Nittos. Kinda wish I knew about this product before I made the other purchase. Like your candid review, thanks for sharing.

This was SO fun to watch, like being in an IMAX theater again lol, had me twisting and turning and ducking in my seat the entire time
You can take tire tubes with you. And in an emergency, they are great. I've only ever seen this method on bead locked tires though. It even works on side wall tears. Just pop the tire off the rim, duct tape the tear to protect the tube from the steel belting. cut a hole for the stem to go through and put the tire back on the rim and air it up. On tread punctures you don't need to take the tire off the rim. You can carry 4 spares instead of just 1. I know some of you are going to say this is crazy, but I've seen it done several times in real life. It's a tried and true method for bias ply tires like on old military jeeps. I've done it a few times on my old M151A2.

Great video I really like the concept of the tire carrier. The wedge locking system is not new. I have had a Hollywood slider bike rack since about 1995. It has a wedge locking system just like you showed. These wedge locking systems work really well. I kind of think the company in Southern California that made this rack for you in Hollywood slider might be the same bunch of guys. They make really good products for bicycles and probably off-road stuff now.

Seems like a new bumper was needed anyhow. Just bolt a tire carrier to a custom bumper like everyone else.
That Rig'd setup has been on my wishlist for my suboverlander setup.
A custom tire carrier is a specific fit to the vehicle. This carrier will fit all vehicles with very little adjustment.
That is a pretty nice carrier, and yes they are a little pricey but if you could beat it and abuse it, makes it all worth it

You have to build a good one. I am using the MORE Ryde hinge and welding my wing out on. I'll make it hook on the rear similar to the Bronco II latch and run my CJ tail gate.

I missed something about a tire rack while making plans to steal your garage ;) Awesome looking shop there. I've made a couple one off tire carriers. I'll get 5 or 6 studs that match the target vehicle light press into the plate, so if something shears off the wheel bolts they have a set of spares and lugnuts.
Heck yeah! Sisters Moto, best place to get what ya need for moto.
Hollywood bike racks has a wedge as well. I have a rack that I converted to a fuel carrier, 4 5 gal cans.
