    I want a ferret so so so bad :'))) for the past week and a half I've been binge watching videos on them and doing research! My mom is VERY hesitant in owning a ferret but I've been trying to ease her into it by bringing up small facts or cute things they do. I bought my ferret from a lovely farmer and his wife. They bred them but their ferrets were all lovely well loved pets. Once a female had a litter they had them done to stop them breeding again and didnt die from not breeding. Here in the uk pet stores dont really sell ferrets so the only choice I had was to look to adopt or buy. Adopting turned up nothing so I looked about for responsible breeders

      Pet Supermarket, petstore like PetSmart or Petco, but they usually sell ferrets, usually 2 and usually a male and female together, but if u only buy one, they wont bring in anymore til the last one is sold...its how i got my lil Booba, and hes thriving beautifully. And btw, my lil guy came from Marshall Farms, and hes healthy as can be. I dunno the real T about them, but my babys healthy and had a check by vet before purchase, from the store, and had a complete med history before i even exchanged money. So...this was in NC as well. I used to work at Petco and I made it a point to let everyone on my team know about safe kibbles to feed that we sold, we don't get paid to promote at Petco-we're just underpaid and not trained and I imagine the same applies to other pet stores. Before owning ferrets I owned hamsters and I guess the hamster community has made it a point to make sure people know not to trust employees because when I first saw a ferret I had no idea what it even was and I still didn't ask the employees at the store!! Haha... I did all the research overnight, bought everything and had it shipped overnight then went to get my first ferret as soon as the store opened!! I felt super bad for impulse buying(because I had only ever adopted animals) but she was the cutest thing in the world to me at that moment. A month later I adopted another ferret that way she would have company, sadly my biggest regret/mistake was purchasing a ferret but I don't regret buying her. Every ferret owner makes mistakes at first and the best thing we can do is learn from them :D

I’m a pretty responsible pet owner, and I did TONS of research before getting him, but I skipped over some of it and obviously made a pretty big mistake. I fed my baby Marshall farms for a while and I am now realizing that in no way should I support the company or continue to feed him the kibble. There's a German brand called Frettchen4You. They make high quality kibble for ferrets, made by experienced and passioned ferret breeders.
    Also, you don't have to adopt, there's also ferret breeders out there that are very good at what they do. Many european breeders gladly sells to America, to help irradicate Marshalls horrible breeding facilities and make it easier for Americans to get a healthy, good pet whose herritage they can follow back to the very first breeding in their bloodline.
    A solution to wanting a ferret, but not having the possibiliti to free roam enough - make a ferret room with no cage, or an outdoor aviary where they can run and play as they want :)

    • @Pazuandfriends
      @Pazuandfriends  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have heard of that brand, however I am having trouble translating the website. I'm not sure if we are able to order that in America. Yes there are breeders but they are very infrequent in the U.S. many of them are not considered reputable and have bad reputations for one reason or another. I am unaware of any European breeders that would ship an animal to the U.S, we have so many unwanted ferrets here so I wanted to promote that in the video. I am no way against breeders, but for ferrets we have such an influx in the shelters right now.

    • @louisenielsen7106

      @@Pazuandfriends I have noticed that their translation is difficult to find. There is an english version on their website though.. I'm danish my self, and No good at German, so I always just allow Google to translate to danish 😂
      My breeder are sending 2 or 3 kits to America this year, one is a sibling to the kid I'm buying 🙂 she has sent some before. She's such a good breeder, but I am aware that many only breed for profits and don't do enough for the health part of the blood lines. We luckily rarely have ferrets in shelters over here, probably because most ferrets are sold directly from breeders with contracts stating that you will return them to the breeder should you be unable to keep them at some point :)

    • @Pazuandfriends
      @Pazuandfriends  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@louisenielsen7106 I have heard the breeders overseas are far superior. Here in the upper east coast of U.S. we have no breeders. There are some in PA but they rarely have litters. Most breeders have been retiring / phasing out. There's an angora breeder in NC (like 15 hours away) but they have somewhat of a cloudy reputation. Very hard to find! However in all surrounding shelters there are many pairs and even trios of ferrets looking for homes.

    • @louisenielsen7106
      @louisenielsen7106 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Pazuandfriends We have very strict laws in EU when it comes to animals, that might be why. There's a very reputable angora breeder in the UK, but angora is a very tricky thing to breed as they can't nurse their kits themself, and can come with a variety of health problems if not done right. So I would always recommend angoras from breeders that allows you to visit and gladly shows parents and other ferrets from the bloodline to you 🙂

    • @Pazuandfriends
      @Pazuandfriends  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@louisenielsen7106 the angora breeder here I've been told ships their fuzzies throughout the north west, I have heard from many sources that they run sort of like a mill, conditions aren't great and lots of kits had health issues and people having a hard time getting paperwork. They've also been shunned by the ferret show community. They don't breed up to "show standard" Seems a bit shady to me, but what do i know /shrug. Bubble Smith raw meat is the best for ferrets! You need a balanced and correct schedule, I recommend checking out my videos on raw! Next best thing is Freeze Dried raw, an expensive but easier alternative to raw. Kibble would be the last best thing.

    I'm planning on getting ferrets sometime this year, I have been taking a lot of time doing as much research as I can, as well as educating my parents. I am 15 turning 16, but I have fallen in love with these animals, and I want to be as educated as I can be before I bring them home. I realized when I first knew I wanted ferrets that I needed to do a lot of research, and because I have been educating myself my parents were more inclined to A. let me get them and B. help pay for them. Im so glad I found your channel, your videos have been super helpful!

    Is roughly 7 hours enough free- roam time? Since I am only 13 I can only free roam after school so from about 3:30pm - 10:30pm. And also for about an hour in the morning, thanks!

    • @jordinhassen
      @jordinhassen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes more then enough time ! They typically need 4 hours of roam time . The more the better so if you feel like you can supervise and ferret proof your room it’ll be good !

    What do I do when I’m off to school? No one in my family likes my ferret so they won’t play with him- how do I keep him entertained without me for 6 hours?

    • @Pazuandfriends
      @Pazuandfriends  5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      6 hours in the cage is fine, people go away for normal work days of 8-9ish hours. As long as the ferret gets play time (out of the cage) before and after school for as long as you can.

      Katna Marsh they were probably brought up on pellets.
      Try slowly adding that kind of stuff in with the dry food.
      Ferrets are super picky eaters and it’s hard to change there diet and it can take a few months but just be patient and add small bits in there food and gradually increase that amount

    I didn’t know that about the water bottles! I’ll definitely buy the clip on so that my little man can have fun and get the amount of water he needs. We’ve had our little Mac Mittens for years, and last week we spent $250 on this 4 story AMAZING cage for him!! I was happy to upgrade his home ❤️ and he seems so happy now too (not that he wasn’t happy before) haha. Thank you for this video!
    Also, we let our ferret free roam 90% of the day with us! Especially while we’re home since we lost our jobs March 19th due to Covid 19. We don’t however feed our ferret raw diet but I will now be looking into this! I don’t want my baby to get sick 😷 ! That’s horrible 😭 !

    Growing up my husband had 6 or 7 ferrets. He wound up moving to the basement so the ferrets had their room to free roam all day and then they were only in the cage at night or during cleanings. He absolutely loves them. However his friend recently impulse bought 2 ferrets because he saw them and he had nothing prepared for them. It was horrible. I was so mad and frustrated he didn’t research. My husband then spent hours telling him what he needed to get for the ferrets like a big cage and litter box and the food they eat. It was a disaster and thankfully he has listened to my husbands advice and followed his instructions. Ferrets are amazing fun animals but they are mischievous and love to get into trouble.

We have stairs so how would I pet proof those? Also, I wanted to get a smaller cage because either I’m home or my husband is. One of us is always home, unless we have something come up. I still use bottle in their cages but I do have a bowl access outside their cages. I prefer the bottles just in case I have to go somewhere and they can get out of water rather quickly, especially from dumping or if I happen to have to be somewhere for a day or two. (I usually would have someone watch them though, but just in case) also, I'd like to mention, check for lumps on your ferrets tails, towards the end. Or lumps in general. I found out my ferret had a chordoma, and I'd had never heard of it until a random vid in my feed popped up. I just had thought his tail was bony, mistake.
