I work at a Petco, and I always find excuses to put the king bettas in with peaceful schooling Nano fish. :) it also shows off how proper conditions for bettas liven them up & make them so much more personable
I just bought mine from Petco yesterday. Got him for the exact reasons you pointed out. Looked at all the cups, then saw this monster in with the regular sales tanks and he was showing off with all the other fish. Peacefully!!
I have some beginner questions… When you rescape a tank, do you remove the fish or do it while they’re in the tank? What’s the best method of cleaning the sand at the bottom of the tank? Do you remove & bin it. Or is there a way to clean (get rid of the poops) ?

Black shadecloth around the sides and back of the tank... try it. Another good one is Black corflute inside the tank on the sides and back. I made a Betta tank out of darkened glass on all sides except the front. ( like 20 years ago now ) The tank was 10 centimeters high and 10 cms wide and 1.5 meters long. It had crypts and ambulia in it and grey river stone . ( large and small stones and a dark brown gravel under the river stones. ) A tiny hang on filter at one end with a large river stone in front of it to slow the water flow a little. In the center was a mound of little bits of broken up drift wood The crypts were planted at the far end of the tank ( other end of where the filter was ) And the Ambulia was planted near to the filter so it grew along the water flow and also helped slow the flow down. I put a white Betta in there I got from this place that was keeping them in " large " wine glasses ... He turned black and red with little bits of blue! Amazing how fish can change color so dramatically when they are unhappy!!
I have two king bettas and they are gorgeous. One I have metallic silver with red and purple named Metallica and the other one is a cute chubby guy that is black,green, and dark blue named Loki I love your king he is beautiful.😍
I noticed the white sand behaves differently than the black sand too! It doesn't seem to vacuum well and I did notice it is really good at trapping tank filth. I had it in a tank for about a month before I just couldn't take it anymore. I pulled it and used it as filler in a hole left by a tree that was removed from my yard. Works great there! LOL! I switched it out with Super Naturals sand. It behaves like beach sand as it is much finer, but it cleans up nicely and still gives me that light look for substrate. Super cute little guy!!!
I love king or giant betta's. I feel most are just kings. There are a few that come out in petco that have giant in them. I can tell they are not what the breeder is looking for or they are part if a project. I have one that is 5inches not including his tail. He is just over a half inch thick. He still a young fish.
I know I'm super late to this, but you can remove superglue using acetone. Obviously don't get any in your tank, but it does evaporate so I'm pretty sure it's safe to use on aquarium decor as long as you give it some time to dry before putting it in the tank. So yeah, next time you superglue your fingers together just grab a bottle of nail polish remover and you'll be all set :).

He is a nice looking betta and the black sand looks great in the tank. I’ve had my King betta for a few months now in a 20 gallon long planted tank. My question is could it be possible to add tank mates? If so what might be a possibility? I’ve read online that they are considered to be more aggressive than normal size betta. I’d really like to add him to my large community tank like I’ve seen people do with betta but his size and plakat speed makes me think it might be a bad idea.
My experience with a king betta: first I’m not blaming the fish, but my “learning curve”. I was extremely excited to purchase a king betta and after two months of searching I found a really amazing fish. I added him into a 29 gallon with a school of chilies raspboras. In a weeks time he ate all but two and then died two days later! Arrrggggg I was sad and angry at the same time. I lost $72 in raspboras and a $20 betta. I have raised fish for over 10 years and this was a shock and a surprise. It happens, the wrong fish with the wrong tank mates.
I’m thinking of splitting my 15 gallon bookshelf aquarium which has my lone half moon to save a king betta today. I saw him at petsmart yesterday and he’s weighing heavy on my mind. Also I feel you on the fingers! I decided to make a DIY slate cave a couple of days ago and I had a glue situation going on myself lol.

Hey I need some help I have a 3.5 gallon tank and I was wondering on what fish I should get I do have a let's smart but I do prefer a betta and couple of small fish but I don't know if they will fight and kill each other
Went to Petco today to but an Angel fish and I saw a few really nice Halfmoon Betta Kings for the first time. They are much larger, I'd say about 2-3 times thicker for sure. Thinking about picking one up and giving it a nice home on my next visit to the pet shop
I took my spec v and remove the filter section wall and replaced it with a sponge filter for up to 10 gal and it is easier to care for Always dig you vids
For future reference after you glue your fingers together: acetone takes off super glue. Traditional nail polish remover is strong enough, you dont need to buy expensive containers of the pure stuff.
In a 29 gallon you have some options, but I would recommend adding the other fish first - possibly some faster moving tetras (neon-varieties), cory cats, clown plecos. King bettas tend to be more aggressive so there is no guarantee he will accept the other fish in his territory though.

@@mrsprimetimeaquatics5497 from what I know, giant bettas get like 4-6 inches. In my teens, I tried crossing a giant betta male to a "large enough" regular female. The babies I had grew midway between the parents. That was aound 8 years ago though when giant bettas were just getting famous. Good luck on your new catch!

I know man. This tank gives me fits when I try to film it now two times in a row! Rrrrr. I get this blue tint and glare that is so hard to get rid of and when I try to color correct it out the color just looks unnatural.

Last year I got my first King Betta and he's amazing! Compared to my other bettas he truly is gigantic, makes me want another king betta one day.

If you guys get another king Betta I would love if it's called Beta Betta as beta is a word in Malay that refers to a king. It would also be fun to just call them (Betta)²
I do like the new design. Not so impressed with the normal looking betta IMO. Mrs.PTA you’ve gone betta bonkers. We can see they make you very happy. Winner winner chicken dinner.
