I strive to be like Coop, instant acceptance but I appreciate how the writers have Dept. Hawk initially not shake hands but by the time Denise leaves he's like, 'that's a good color for him', that's growth.

In the begin of the episode, I was reading the names of the actors and I jumped from the chair and
I cheered, yelling like this: "Mulder is on twin Peaks, this show qualifies to be my favorite!" (after the XFiles). Then I saw he was trans and I started laughing like an idiot.
It was all going fine & dandy with the alien abduction until they did that damned anal probe . . .
2021 and Cooper’s reaction to Denise is still the nicest and most respectful I’ve seen on media between a cis person and their newly out trans friend. It warms my heart as a trans person too. I love Cooper and Denise and Twin Peaks

He's so amazing, he plays a woman really well. So feminine, without it being flashy or exaggerated. He's such a great actor. I had heard that he had played a woman on Twin Peaks, but I always thought he was suppose to be undercover. I had never seen the scene before, so I hadn't realized he's actually playing a transgender. And he actually looks pretty as a woman, lol.

Fun-fact: David and the long-haired officer act together in an X-files' season two episode, where they play Mulder and a cherokee reserve sheriff respectively. I laughed myself out when I saw them both again, but this time as two male characters :D

X-Files is my favorite show of all time, but it was definitely inspired by Twin Peaks. The two best TV characters ever for sure. I like how Dale is super cool and super accepting about it. Maybe the Twin Peaks locals are a little weird about it but no one ever really makes fun of Denise or anything. Great show.

Long time Twin Peaks nerd, I was showing this scene to my transgender friend the other day (as well as Denise's scene in The Return) and we were both absolutely marvelling at Coop's response. "Okay." Perfection. And from then on he immediately refers to her as Denise without even having to think about it. Coop is a true gent and for 1992 (The 90s were not kind to LGBT people. I know, I was there) this was ingenious. Fix your hearts or die.

Hawk's matter-of-fact attitude is one of the best things about the original Twin Peaks. The new Twin Peaks is just too much continual darkness with hardly any break. I couldn't make it past episode 4. The original Twin Peaks could be dark, but it also knew how to make you smile and laugh too.
I'm in episode 5 and hate how cooper still can barely function and nobody bothers to help him. Can they not see he has a serious problem?

The look right after he say goddbye to the deputy, that's SO like a little girl. ^^ A little shy, deep look and then lowering the gaze and walking out of the room quite elegantly.
Guys, I hate to say that, David never was my kind of guy but as a woman he's smokin' hot!

This is so oddly ahead of its time. Like, yeah I think it is supposed to be strange in that Twin Peaks-style way and I don't like the misgendering right there at the end, but I love how chill they are. She comes in, corrects him on her name, and they just roll with it because Dale really respects her.
Also, David Duchovny has zero camp and mad futch energy. This guy knows the lady he is playing.
You know, until just now I never noticed the misgendering. I always heard "a good color for her." Kinda disappointing.

I understand the upsetting nature of that but unfortunately it’s more realistic since a room full of cops unfortunately they would probably misgender her. I do like cooper being just accepting probably since he respects Denise so much. Also cooper is just a good man.

DAMN, i miss the 80s and 90s when a transgender character wasn't shown cause the director was "pushing a progressive agenda on young kids brains!" it was just... a transgender character. and in this case, one of our favorites!

I agree completely. Nowadays, people care more about the race/gender/sexual orientation of the character, as opposed to the character themselves. Back in the 90s, characters were better written because creators were more focused on who the characters were as individuals, and less about their "identity".
Well it is good for certain groups to be represented in media when they are usually excluded. The issue is that this exclusion has created a market for inclusion which is being capitalised upon.
The great thing about Denise is she is 1. Presented as a competent professional
2. Someone who is not over the top in how she acts but still conveys as feminine
3. Is in a field where being a trans woman would be extremely difficult
He may be playing a woman, but he is doing a good job playing one here and looks very hot and sexy. Anybody can be fooled into thinking that this is really a woman and not a man. A lot of times when man play woman roles, they cannot even pull it off right and often look like ugly transvestites. David Duchovny as a man is really good looking and all of the girls want to go after him, which makes him very flexible at playing different roles and appearances.

I don't see why not. It's very common for actors just starting out and that cannot act very well to get parts on tv. Lynch or the person in charge of casting decided to give him a chance. I'm sorry if you find something wrong with that.
