Actually, you only have to speed up at the very end of the canary mary race. For the duration, you have to have a steady medium speed, or else Mary will rubberband to you and double her speed for the rest of the race. Its literally "slow and steady wins the race"
This is a level were you try to out jump an Anteater, turn into a beat to shoot targets and fly around, fight a robotic skeletal shaman, and use a bubble to travel to and from it. This level was freaking amazing.
This level, I think, showed Rare's imaginative and creative ability more than any other level in any other game. I honestly don't think any level in any other game is more unique and original. Not only is there a moldy cheese wedge, a jell-o castle, a giant trash can, a pot of gold and a giant beehive, but it was all floating in the clouds, where you can only get to it by floating up in a bubble. Then you have to race a bird on a robotic mouse and have an exercise contest with an aardvark.Genius
I looked up this level on a Banjo-Kazooie wiki. It said that this level has melodies from a bunch of BK and other BT levels, including Spiral Mountain.
The soundtrack in this level has quite a variety. At 1:03 to 1:10 all the instruments play the same 6 note tune. And at 1:10 to 1:18, you get this really low pitched bass instrument (probably trombone) that somehow reminds you of farting.
Favorite world in all of the banjo kazooie games. Just the sheer randomness. The level just taunts your curiousity. That giant trash can? You know there's a jiggy in there, but damn it to hell if you can't find a way in. Love it.
Been playing Banjo Kazooie on my xbox, nostalgia up the ass, came and listened to this song and now have decided to buy tooie on the xbox as well. Can't wait!
This is probably the weirdest level I've ever played in a video game. Really though. Giant smelly cheese, Jello, evil candy... There are just too many random things. This doesn't stop it from being fun, though. :)
Cloud Cuckooland and Click Clock Wood = both last levels of BT and BK. They both have a lot of C's, and you're right, they do sound a bit similar. I think Banjo Tooie has a lot of links to the prequel, in terms of music.
I like this level too. But it does remind me of Click Clock Wood, for several reasons: they're the last level of their respective game, they both have zubbas, a bee hive and bee transformation and they're both sort of "jolly" levels. That's a good thing though. It definitely isn't a generic level. =P
The way I do it is start off really slowly so she doesn't rush ahead, then catch up to her once the camera angle changes for the first time, and stay neck and neck with her the whole race, then when I can see the end in sight, I mash like crazy to the finish.
I always thought it was really cool how you could see the whole Isle' O' Hags when you floated up to this level. You could even see Hailfire Peaks off the coast!
@IBiteMuchHarder360 I'm split on this issue completely. I feel both proud when I calculate stuff correctly, especially for interest expenses, but also feel happy when I complete video games 100%.
@CatFlashBlue This was my definite favorite map! When I was young I could never manage to learn the way there, so whenever I found it, it was like the holy grail!
@luvcookies1 canary mary is a cinch if you know the trick. just place the controller on a steady surface and use the index finger of each hand alternately pecking away at the A button. trying to use only one hand is gonna leave you with muscle cramps.
@gruntora (cont'd) Start out slow & then when you begin approaching the first upward turn speed up then slow down when you get on top. Speed up until you're about a third of the way past the first platform then slow down. Then speed up and you'll finally past her if you did it right. Speed up & slow down repeatedly to ensure that lead than blast past her in the home stretch.
Jumping off the edge felt awesome in this level cause you got to see the whole island I made it a game to see where I could make Banjo land in the island XD
ahhh, good times here. I rememeber going out and spending my hard earned cash just to get a turbo controller to beat Canary Mary twice!! It was worth it though!
"Last thing I remember was someone putting a clear plastic mask on my nose and mouth and telling me to count backwards from 100..." This is PERFECT coming out of anesthesia music.
when i was young i liked the msuic but now reuniting with this game i couldnt remember what part was it from a game that had this msuic but still remembered it but couldnt tell where it came from so tried looking it up until now i finally found out lol
One of my favorite levels along with Hail Fire Peaks and Witchyworld for Tooie, and Click Clock Wood, Freezeasy Peak, & Treasure Trove Cove for Banjo Kazooie. This level was truly a wonderland of sorts lol. Mongy Jongo was fun to battle against, plenty of interesting surprises and activities, and the music was great.
Canary Mary is a bot that clones your speed when you press the A buttom. All you got to do is not to press the A buttom to fast or too slow, and when your near Mary, you press the A buttom faster to pass her.
@MoonlightSonataTT To this day I literally credit that race for being a fast button masher, I tell people if you want a real challenge try and beat Canary Mary the second time
those things in the cave were really messed up,but then again, the whole level is.a trash can,pot o gold, moldy cheese, jelly castle, and a minigame where a zubba basically allows you to kill his own kind for points
@dracomageat Well, not a literal rubberband, but rubberband AI. It's this thing where, if you do extremely well at a game, the computer will try even harder to beat you, like pulling a rubberband harder and harder until it snaps back. If you let Canary Mary get ahead of you, you can zoom past her at the very end because she'll be slower, but stay ahead of her the whole time, and she'll definitely do the same to you.
I have to say the cardboard cut-out enemies in Central Cavern who attack you with candy canes, flowers and sausages. They were my most favorite enemies in the game, number 2 being the workers in Grunty Industries who scream at you. Although I must say beating Canary Mary in 2 races without pausing the game was next to impossible! But I really like this level it's very creative and unique to the rest of the game, not to mention I liked fighting Minji Jongo, and exploring the cheese wedge. :)
The trick with Canary Mary is that she will always speed up if you get ahead of her and then stay at that speed. I managed to beat her by clinging to her tail and speeding up at the end.
A game designer that worked at rareware decided to bring his bong to work with him he used it then went to the B-room, while he was gone everyone gathered around his lunch box. And when he came back they were all high. (Ted holding a jellow sculpture of a castle, Mary running faster than John, a customer trying to be a native, two men with canes beating the living crap out of their son's, and a man throwing a trashcan in the air), then suddenly an idea struck him,A world filled with randomness.
@hippie1959 I managed to glitch my controller in making it react to the A button way too fast. I beat her twice in a row. I had all the cheato pages and jiggies , honey combs , then my cousins came by and erased the file to play their own little game.... my stomach was properly full that day.
In Nuts and Bolts, LOG says: “Remember Canary Mary? Did you have fun racing her? How I laughed when I was setting up those levels. I'm still laughing.”
Dreams are a very powerful source of imagination, the crazier the dreams, the crazier the person(that came out wrong...)! Maybe boredom during a meeting and someone started looking at things all around the room thinking "how would this be if it came to life?" Someone may have also just been thinking what exactly hasn't been done in the gaming world yet and then slapped it all together.
@Arc13 I always thought Rareware were on drugs. Banjo-Kazooie was originally intended as a game about a boy who had to fight pirates led by Captain Blackeye amongst tropical islands. It eventually became Banjo-Kazooie which is about a bear and a bird saving said bear's sister from an evil witch. How exactly this transition was made is unclear.
If you had the button mashing balls to beat Mary Canary in this level, you were truly a man, and had every right to call Mary Canary every dirty thing you knew as you reveled in your ultimate victory.
@Galdur21 When I was little I had to hold the controller at different angles and press it with different fingers to win. I go so mad but i finally got it :D
I'm able to vibrate my arm/hand somehow and that allows me to rapid-button mash the A button so the canary race was a breeze for me, the jiggy one and the cheato page one. I could upload a video of me doing it if you want.
Instead of finding the Jiggies to open Cauldron Keep, it would be funny if you could get there by jumping off the part of this level that's directly above it. It worked for the giant icecube...
Canary Mary and Mario Party have made me a button-mashing professional.
And paper mario
Actually, you only have to speed up at the very end of the canary mary race. For the duration, you have to have a steady medium speed, or else Mary will rubberband to you and double her speed for the rest of the race. Its literally "slow and steady wins the race"
Yeah, it's been at least a decade since I last played my way through the game.
I remember being scared of Mumbo's impostor as a kid. Good times.
This is a level were you try to out jump an Anteater, turn into a beat to shoot targets and fly around, fight a robotic skeletal shaman, and use a bubble to travel to and from it.
This level was freaking amazing.
+Ditto, Master of Disguise He was an aardvark, actually.
Canary Mary always got a head start and she picked the slowest items for banjo to ride.
Canary Mary... Why?
My first carpal--tunnel......Good times.
I was thinking the same thing, I can definately hear a bit of spiral mountain in there.
Missing Tooty. Last seen? Banjo-Kazooie. XD
Whatever drug developers were on while creating this level...
...
I want to be on that.
I like to think they were like "screw, it this is the last world, lets just put random weird stuff in it and call it a day"
I hadn't noticed this until now, but the ride up to ccl sounds like a massive bong hit.
Cloud Cuckooland e Click Clock Wood. Mistura das duas musicas! Incrivel.❤️❤️
Click Clock Wood>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Cloud Cuckooland
I looked up this level on a Banjo-Kazooie wiki. It said that this level has melodies from a bunch of BK and other BT levels, including Spiral Mountain.
I mashed the shit out of Canary Mary in the race and never lost. My finger still works. I feel pretty good about myself.
I loved going in the giant cheese and the trash can the most.
nothing makes sense anymore if you go into this world, I swear, its insane >:o
I love the Banjo-Kazooie style Grant has created, such lovely, catchy tunes, with those crazy harmony changes everywhere that make it so alive...
You can really tell they put their heart into making this game. The imagination along with the music just makes it an all time great.
Hardest yet somehow funnest level in the whole game
I remember freaking out when Minji Jonjo revealed himself. XD
(I also wondered why they didn't include a Himji Womja.)
Love it.
The people who beat Canary Mary through sheer button mashing power instead of exploiting the rubberband AI trick are total badasses.
Been playing Banjo Kazooie on my xbox, nostalgia up the ass, came and listened to this song and now have decided to buy tooie on the xbox as well. Can't wait!
This reminds me of how my mother used to feed me drugs when I was a baby, so I would stop crying. What a good mother she was.
How is this music soo good. Brings back memories and that warm adventurous feeling.
for some odd reason this song made me feel like my head was constantly inflating and deflating... 0.o
Anyone else thinking of this level when they heard the name "Cloud Cuckooland" in the Lego movie?
somebody's gotta sue them.
Sean Campbell though that was with 2 words, here it's just one.
ohhhh. you mean like cuckooland and cuckoo land? or cloud cuckooland and cloudcuckooland?
the first one
thanks. that makes a lot more sense
I like this level too. But it does remind me of Click Clock Wood, for several reasons: they're the last level of their respective game, they both have zubbas, a bee hive and bee transformation and they're both sort of "jolly" levels. That's a good thing though. It definitely isn't a generic level. =P
As a kid I'd always call this world the "Candy World",,,it always made me hungry too =D
I like this song :)
The way I do it is start off really slowly so she doesn't rush ahead, then catch up to her once the camera angle changes for the first time, and stay neck and neck with her the whole race, then when I can see the end in sight, I mash like crazy to the finish.

I have so many gosh-awful memories on this level. Then there are also amazing ones!
@CatFlashBlue This was my definite favorite map! When I was young I could never manage to learn the way there, so whenever I found it, it was like the holy grail!
this world is every time i play this still fun. i just love all the riddles!
Oh man, who can forget this acid trip of a level? It was AWESOME!
@luvcookies1
canary mary is a cinch if you know the trick. just place the controller on a steady surface and use the index finger of each hand alternately pecking away at the A button. trying to use only one hand is gonna leave you with muscle cramps.

Unlocking this level for the first time was magical
ahhh, good times here. I rememeber going out and spending my hard earned cash just to get a turbo controller to beat Canary Mary twice!! It was worth it though!
@DustyBoyT Tap A like a madman.
"Last thing I remember was someone putting a clear plastic mask on my nose and mouth and telling me to count backwards from 100..."
This is PERFECT coming out of anesthesia music.
when i was young i liked the msuic but now reuniting with this game i couldnt remember what part was it from a game that had this msuic but still remembered it but couldnt tell where it came from so tried looking it up until now i finally found out lol
In a world as unusual as Cloud Cuckooland, you have no idea what the boss will be like until you actually see the boss!
this was my first video game and still is to this day
One of my favorite levels along with Hail Fire Peaks and Witchyworld for Tooie, and Click Clock Wood, Freezeasy Peak, & Treasure Trove Cove for Banjo Kazooie. This level was truly a wonderland of sorts lol. Mongy Jongo was fun to battle against, plenty of interesting surprises and activities, and the music was great.
banjo tooie and kazooie music makers were always wicked good with using the circle of fifths/fourths
Canary Mary is a bot that clones your speed when you press the A buttom. All you got to do is not to press the A buttom to fast or too slow, and when your near Mary, you press the A buttom faster to pass her.
oh who am i kidding i always jumped off the cliff for fun and it was a great view of the isle o hags and hailfire peaks.
I enjoy playing these Banjo-Tooie songs on a web browser and playing Solitaire for some reason.
@MoonlightSonataTT To this day I literally credit that race for being a fast button masher, I tell people if you want a real challenge try and beat Canary Mary the second time
I heard about this in the Banjoland theme, and decided to drop by and listen in for a bit.
You never fail to please, eh, Rare? ;)
i tried learning this song on guitar by ear.. Canary Mary sounds like a real treat right now....
I used to glide around as Kazooie for hourssss at this level. AAAHHH good times...
Definitely. Its sad that we probably won't get another Banjo of this quality, or even another Banjo, ever again. :(
those things in the cave were really messed up,but then again, the whole level is.a trash can,pot o gold, moldy cheese, jelly castle, and a minigame where a zubba basically allows you to kill his own kind for points

That bird woman was the only thing to ever make rage quit. But now i have an awesome trigger finger , as i discovered in star wars battlefront 2.
The bee was my favorite! He was so cute and he could actually shoot things in this game, a vast improvement on his Click Clock Wood incarnation.
I have to say the cardboard cut-out enemies in Central Cavern who attack you with candy canes, flowers and sausages. They were my most favorite enemies in the game, number 2 being the workers in Grunty Industries who scream at you. I want to learn how to play these songs on an instrument!!!!!! SOO BAD
You have to think of what Rare was smoking when they came up with this level...it paid off, big time.
A game designer that worked at rareware decided to bring his bong to work with him he used it then went to the B-room, while he was gone everyone gathered around his lunch box. And when he came back they were all high. I haven't even played BanjoTooie and I love this music :-) Just like Banjo Kazooie to have awesome music ^_^
This place is so nuts. I love it.
@banjotenie The trick was to tap slowly and tap as fast you could at the very end.
This song defines my childhood.
I would literally spend hours in this world, just dicking around as the Bee
In Nuts and Bolts, LOG says:
“Remember Canary Mary? Did you have fun racing her? How I laughed when I was setting up those levels. I'm still laughing.”

Oh man, I loved flying around as the bee, and bounce on the jelly-like castle:D
If you had the button mashing balls to beat Mary Canary in this level, you were truly a man, and had every right to call Mary Canary every dirty thing you knew as you reveled in your ultimate victory.
You'll eventually be able to get Tooie on arcade, but you can't now. It's depressing.
Yeah, and get Tooie. One of my favorite games ever.
this was my favorite level in the game! i love bouncing on the jelly!
I love this song! lol, its my fav out of the banjo kazooie selection
Cursed behive and the smilling walls in the small lake scared me to death -.-
Yea! He's surprisingly hard! You either beat him ridiculously fast or he beats YOU ridiculously fast!
Craziest level in the series, 2nd favorite level of series from my few, and it is just insane trying to get around. Cool location though.
The Legend of Kazooie. Tooty Princess
@Galdur21
When I was little I had to hold the controller at different angles and press it with different fingers to win. I go so mad but i finally got it :D
The red, bouncy things in this level reminds me of jello!
I LOVE this game. This level creeps me out a little, though. (especially the robo Mumbo)
It is.
While Banjo-Tooie fell short the original, it was a neat game...
*Thinks back to the good ol' '90's*
Oh my god NOSTALGIA!
Good thing that I still have my N64 and this game complete ;)
This song perfectly represents the crazy-ass randomness in that lvl
I really like this track, I'm glad they used it in BK: NB.
yea, I agree, Banjo-Tooie kicked Banjo-Kazooie's ass in goodness.
No one dares to make levels like Cloud Cuckooland anymore... What a pity!
Favorite level in BT!
Smaller, but overall my favourite level in this game!
I'm able to vibrate my arm/hand somehow and that allows me to rapid-button mash the A button so the canary race was a breeze for me, the jiggy one and the cheato page one. I could upload a video of me doing it if you want.

I agree with BollyBibby. This is my one of my favorite songs in a video game.
The best part was being able to look down and see Hailfire peaks :)
Oh yes that too, and pieces of paper that tried to kill you with flowers.
