Old fella that has now passed on at Kyle used to say "best work out of a gallon of gas used on the farm was in an auger". Thought about that fine gentleman every time I filled mine up.

My favorite ones on our farm are the smaller Frankenaugers that have been 'modified'. Hauling home any new shiny piece of equipment is such a glorious day because it doesn't happen very often. It's like the queen is coming for tea. 😂

Every town has that one auger, who covertly descends into the farmer’s yard whilst the farmer’s auger is away at Bingo, and gets serviced by said farmer. Every. Dang. Week. You know who you are, Auger Annie.

@Jilli Jigs - oh boy.... you may have read a bit too far into it hahaha. Can QDM suggest switching to Kinsmen radio bingo to help the problem? Ya just need a radio and a dabber....

On the other hand, there are also the Auger Amy’s who, despite undue care & attention by their farmer, can be spotted in other local area farmer’s yards during curling bonspiels, Farm Progress Show and Agribition. While the farmer is away, the auger will play...

Eh boys we got a lovely cousin of the auger Annie show up in the yard this winter. Beautiful voluptuous two handled squeeze a throttle 10inch flighting with an easy pull start automatic choke. Oh I love my nose rubbin Eskimo ice auger.

I think maybe you guys have to fancy of augers that constantly roam from neighbor to neighbor you shouldn’t have to stop curling or playing bingo to keep an eye on your auger. It should want to stay in its own yard unless said farmer lends it to a neighbor in question when he came back from curling to find his auger missing.... just sayin “pretty augers that attract attention need protection” (quote of the day)

I remember a time when we didn't have all of these attachments and accessories with our Augers. It was just you and your Auger, toiling away for hours on end, getting sweaty and dirty, cleaning out bins. It was so hot sometimes, you'd just pour water over yourself instead of drinking it. At the end of the day, you'd lovingly bring your Auger back to the yard and take care of it. Lubricating all it's parts, making sure its tires were okay and changing the oil...even an occasional new belt...if your Auger was working real hard for you. Yep...there was a simple beauty to it back then.
Now you got all of these accessories making it easier to clean bins and load trucks. Hell, the new Augers are supermodels compared to the old ones. Standing taller and reaching farther, it's now wonder the old Auger is sheepishly standing off in the corral. They feel inadequate and useless in the shadow of their larger, newer replacements. Then the day comes when your brand new Auger fucks up, or ya pile it into a power line fucking the electronics. That's when you realize that you've neglected that faithful old Auger, sitting in the corral. So you resurrect it from the purgatory it was in, to find that it's still a faithful old Auger, with a little bit of coaxing.
Realizing the error of your ways, you clean it up, putting it with the other new implements that you use on the farm. Even though your old Auger is dwarfed by the larger, shinier new equipment, you know that the Auger will be there...ready to use when you need it.
Then again...it's a fuck-load quicker when you can load a truck in half the time! Hell, I used to pick rocks with a stone-boat and pony...but that's a story for another episode.
Thanks Quick Dick! Awesome love story!

Bin full sensor? In my day, that was my eyes, at the top of the bin watching. And when the bin was nearly full, it was a quick trip down to close off the gate on the truck and empty out the auger, with no spillage. One year I took an especially fast trip down when my foot caught the rope for the cap instead of a rung! And my first thought wasn’t was I hurt, but rather can I get the truck closed off before I spill grain.
Please, everyone stay safe and well. 🇨🇦

My dad is 86 and farmed until he was 80. Im looking after the farm now and realized that he still has every auger he’s had this relationship with in the yard. I think the last one is a Farm King but the first one I don’t think even had a manufacturer name on it. I also realize how many near death experiences I had with all of them. Holy fuck QDM, I think you are the therapist that everyone has been telling me I should see. THANKS!!!!!

You forgot to show the #9 wire holding the Guards and Shield's in place after you lose the bolts when servicing or replacing Bearings . The reason for this is because of ceased up grease nipples and you said F!!! it they will last one more load..
also the farmer that has his first Brandt Auger with the original 1979 Briggs&Stratton engine with the Manual wrap on pull rope.... that takes a good half a day to get running. And only starts to get the F!!!ER running when the truck driver shows up....

Skjeren Kristjenson well its coming up two weeks of lockdown now, I dug a tree root last week ‘cos I got bored, then yesterday I removed all the balustrade off my balcony and now I’m sanding 35 years of paint on the handrail and posts. Next week I’m on tree removal I’ve only got about 10 now not 10,000 so should knock it in a couple days then chuck it through the chipper. Here the minister of health has been fired, he went mountain biking and then took his family to the beach, and we’re all supposed to be on lockdown. I’ve never seen so many unfit people riding bicycles that have sat untouched in the garage for the last seven years, so the comedy hasn’t stopped. Plenty of food, still got some booze, so couldn’t be better really. How are you and your family faring? Hopefully you’re out in the sticks and nobody much is around. Good luck to you.

A lovely heartwarming story of how life love and relationships! I laughed, I cried, I felt, for the first time since I first saw a shiny new Auger.
I once wrote a song about "The Auger". But it wasn't like this glowing sentimental masterpiece. It was a song about A new farmer who had gone to extract the last of his grain to give to the benevolent "Turdeau" so he could feed his starving Minions. The worker has had a fight with his wife that morning over the love the wife has for the Turdeaus hair and is in no mood for the aggravation the auger is now giving him in getting the auger to work. It seems SOMETHING is stuck in the auger. He goes to see what is stopping it and finds what looks like a wedged long piece of old wood with part of a plaid piece of clothing torn up but still clinging to the wood. He reaches in to try to unlodge the piece and just as he does the auger starts up and catches his own unbuttoned plaid jacket in it's winding wonderment. It's at that exact moment the farmer realizes that it wasn't a piece of wood stuck in the auger it was a human arm. He struggles he pulls as hard as he can but the auger seems to have a life of it's own as it crushes his fingers, hand and just when it seems all is lost the farmer uses all of his might tearing his arm from the socket to free himself from the augers meat grinding force. He stumbles as he runs in a state of intense shock as blood is letting everywhere. He drives to the house where his wife is standing there wondering what all the screaming is about. His tears are mixing with the blood as he holds pressure in on his shoulder and frantically tries to tell her what happened. The wife jumps into the truck to drive him to emergency and huffs as she says "Ya dummy why didn't ya just TAKE THE DAMN COAT OFF!?" Ta Daa! Sorry for the graphic nature of it but it was an integral part of the tale. Too long I know. Yours is much better Quick Dick.

The times I can watch something good on YT before coffee are rare. Such is not the case with your videos. Keep up the good work! Now, to find me a cute little auger. Maybe one with a big black hopper bottom.... & before anyone gets their underoos in an uproar, my neighbor has a new J&M X-series grain cart & we get along like peas & carrots!
    Good day to ya!

My father-in-law caught his foot in the auger and twisted it bad. My mother-in-law found him laying on the ground after she heard him yell. He was unable to walk but he was checking to make sure the auger was okay. Fortunately it was not serious injury but he did limp the rest of his life.

The old boy Eldon down the road had a 'Cockshutt scoop a second' that his dad bought new in 1702 or something. You could literally out shovel the auger and have to wait for it to catch up. But Eldon would ALWAYS say the same thing "she still works good"

"The farmer knows exactly how much the auger can take before it blows a shear pin, but just keeps pushing it to have fun." And then the stub shaft half way up torques off and, dear god, is it ever a chore taking that bugger apart to get it welded back up.

Always enjoyed a bit a Canadian humor, just found ya week ago QD. Surely you heard of show LetterKenny? Your videos are actually funnier, maybe just cuz I'm a farmer??? Keep it coming. I rang the bell. We all could enjoy a good laugh!

@@QuickDickMcDick yeah letterKenny is kind of a cult classic down here in the Midwest of America. Some people watch the show and don't see the humor in it! If you can believe that! Others i've introduced to the show and explain to them how to appreciate the very subtle humor, and sometimes not so subtle humor of the show. But they are a full-time production television show with directors cast crew scripts etc, as I said I just found you a few weeks ago, all I can say is just don't forget about all this little people that enjoyed your videos along the way when you are either the next prime minister of Canada or on your own show! We are doing some things down here in the Midwest of the US changing the way we are farming and utilizing our regenerative farming practices and growing higher nutrient dense crops we are working on changing the value chain of commodities and how they are bond and sold based on the nutrient density not just the pound or bushel and this goes for all crops grown in our hemisphere. We are waking up and learning that we can grow our own seed that we can work directly farmer to farmer and directly to the consumer with farm-to-table and direct farm to consumer models. It is many of the ridiculous regulations and incompetence that you regularly hilariously point out in your videos that has really given many of us farmers no other choice. There is a new market being created right now of direct to consumer higher nutrient dense food ingredients, It will change the paradigm from the commodity value chain. Just wanted to give you a heads up QDM I know you get this all the time but give my channel a quick look and you will very quickly see what is coming down the pipeline. My channel is pretty much brand new but I just had to start it and once you check it out you'll understand why.

What do you do if you find out your neighbour (‘neighbor’ for U.S. viewers) has been secretly ‘using’ your auger... while you are in the city (Regina) getting more seed? Even worse! He returns it (in the middle of the night - obviously).... all gummed up! Oh the crazy struggles of a Farmer. Thanks for the video.

    • @QuickDickMcDick
      @QuickDickMcDick  4 ปีที่แล้ว

@Kellington Link - QDM is honoured that you would use Canadian spelling in this comment. If your neighbour returned your auger all gummed up, hopefully they had the kindness to at least ensure the tank was full.... hahaha great comment.
