    Old rape allegations kept the movie, “Birth of A Nation”, from growing.

      Man I had no idea until I did paper about it and had to use critique reviews as resources. And all any of them spoke about was the rape allegations. Completely disregarded the story

      It was an entire case and *a suicide. Anyone else think* such an entire case & suicide would impact any movie?

    • @justicejoycetv
      @justicejoycetv 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Bonkz yep. Didn't say he wasn't. Quite aware that the women brought this to the forefront once he was up for acknowledgement right before Birth.
      *Thanks for your insights. My point stands.*
      - See plenty of people have been around after cases and with just whispers. So again... I'd think rape, a trial and a death would haut anyone just like Ted Kennedy's drive across 1bridge and Chris Brown's assault on Rihanna. #StaysWithYa even if you are working.

    Linc made the cop call his family before putting the gun to his head. That moment was everything! Tell your family you're not coming home. Wrestle with what's coming next, only to receive the mercy you never considered showing to the CHILD who's life you took!

    Man you hit the nail right on the head with this review.
    The only thing I would add, is the messaging at the very end where they spin the story, make accusations about Link's "mental health" and "gang affiliation", then they moved onto sports. That sealed the movie for me.

    One part you aint say Tony. The son and his friend talking about rights came from him going to the private school. He was learning about cops from a "privileged learning system" so of course they mentioned rights.

      I watched the movie last night. His dad was trying so hard to warn him and the other young man that what our rights are in theory and on paper are not the same as how they are applied in real life. As was stated, those laws and rights were not written with people of color in mind. This is why the police and most lay people don't take us seriously or dismiss us when we assert them.

    3/5 🎷 for me. Definitely teared up watching it. The dialog is definitely relevant, there's no mistaking what the message is, the fact that he didn't kill the cop but still gets killed in the end is symbolic of what post slavery life is like for African Americans today: the whole idea the you don't want revenge after all the atrocities done to your race for 400 years, yet you're still killed. However, the court room scenario made it a bit corny for me. But again the message was clear!

    My biggest issue with these types of movies are the endings. When do we ever get to walk off ALIVE into the sunset?!? I don't have the emotional bandwidth to keep continually seeing images of Black people dying after attempting to extract justified justice. As contrary and unrealistic in this current culture as it might be, I want more happy endings at the conclusions of Black movies. Anything else confirms the narrative that we are expendable...
