    • @ajwalker4416
      @ajwalker4416 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jeromejenkins1733 I understand that but in listening to his and other's reviews, there is no other way for a film like this to end. I was wary of wanting to watch it when I first heard about it because it falls squarely in the realm of "revenge fantasy". The closest movie that ever somewhat transcended that problem was "The Spook Who Sat By The Door" based on the book of the same name. That presented a system wide solution. But as soon as I heard the basic plot of "American Skin," that is was only about him seeking "justice" for his son against one officer I knew this was going to be racial revenge porn 🤷🏾‍♂️ Parker really doesn't have the big vision to make any other kind of film, this is very reactionary, not visionary 🤷🏾‍♂️

    I'm not gonna watch this movie until I find out more about it. I have a feeling that
    A. Nate's character will get killed
    B. He'll get arrested
    C. They'll be a "not all cops" ending
    D. He'll sacrifice himself for a white person.
    E. They'll be some sort of moral high ground, "we're not violent and animals like you" ending.
    Basically, I think the ending will neuter the film as to not to make white audiences too uncomfortable. The ending I want is the ending a white hero would get at the end of a film like this.

I do me and if they come around then cool, and if they don’t that’s on them 😂🤷🏻‍♂️ I can’t imagine why or how I would let someone have power over me because they don’t like me. If what I’m doing is GOOD. Then it will resonate with good people. We are all created equal.. so what will you do with your freedom? Cry about the white man? Probably because this movie is divisive and does nothing positive for the image of the black man.. whoever made this movie is full of hate and it shows.
      Sure make a movie about a black man killing a bunch of cops and releasing criminals to enact “justice”
      That will teach everyone that you’re not violent, or savages. 🤦‍♂️🙄 guys y’all need to filter out your media because it’s disgusting to watch how you use propaganda on yourselves just to make YOU look like the racists.

    I haven't decided yet if I want to watch this movie. My sister already forewarned me it caters to the "others." After Queen and Slim(the let down of that ending), I told myself I was done with the black trauma narrative. We have enough trauma in real-life. I wish more black writers would give us the narrative..."an eye for an eye." Would love to see it. This review was really good. I agree with everything you said 💯

    The movie to me really highlights the incredible amount of pain, rage, and sense of powerlessness and lack of justice that black families have to endure both internally and externally when losing a child/family member to police brutality. To witness your child being murdered ifo your eyes senselessly and unnecessarily, by someone who has taken an oath to serve and protect, has to be as painful an experience as one can feel. So I can totally get with Lincoln's wanting to take matters into his own hands to get the justice, and closure for himself, he feels his son didn't receive. I also like the idea of the documentary maker filming the events as they're happening, at the insistence of Lincoln, which lends a novel approach to the story. The other important part of this movie which I found fascinating was how white and black members of the jury, and overall, perceived the events and police brutality in general. Even after the confession by officer Randall that he couldn't really determine if Lincoln was speeding you still had members of the jury and fellow officers still not convinced of officer Randall's unjustified stop and poor judgement. Oh, just curious, I didn't see a review by you of SYLVIE'S LOVE which I absolutely loved.

    I’m torn. (Potential spoilers below)
    This was spoiler free, but a couple things you said tipped me off that the ending won’t be what the trailer set up, so I don’t know if I want to support another “see how we are better than y’all/mercy at the end” story. We are at the point where a good cautionary tale of, “if y’all keep fckn with us, we gonna start fckn with you” ending is more warranted. I am going to have to think long and hard about financially supporting this one. I had really high hopes, but I sense I’ll be let down after watching this review...

    I have 2 view points about the ending. #1- I definitely would have wanted it to be a “life for a life” ending. Just my thoughts... #2- but now that I am taking a step back and trying to see the film from the director’s lens and trying to project his theme for the movie, I think that the cop should have stayed alive, but should have had a PHYSICAL and mental battle wound! I say this because due the climax of the movie, it seemed like the director was pushing the notion of “ making a change”. The 1 character even said how “ this cop needs to be made the example”. So yes, that cop is now able to live to tell the tale...... but he should have had a PHYSICAL reminder for ALL to know who he was! That physical reminder would have been the wake up call that both the system and people need to change. That was the reminder that if the FATHER of the victim gives the killer mercy, then it does show that all Blacks shouldn’t be depicted in a negative light. This suggestion reminds me of the movie “Trojan” when Achilles told Victor that he was going to hell with NO eyes, NO tongue, etc. because he wants the EVERYONE to know that “Hey this is Victor, the guy who thought he killed Achilles”. I’m paraphrasing but you get the gist. That’s how that cop’s wound should have been! EVERYONE was gonna say “ hey that’s the cop that helped break systematic racism!” While he lives with the guilt of killing an unarmed KID!!! Death was gonna be too easy for him.

I believe Nate did a really phenomenal job with this one... it showed how the father had compassion for the officer and how that ultimately led to his demise... the speech given by the young filmmaker was everything “then so be it”... to me, it was gut wrenching and honest... just because you show mercy, doesn’t mean it will be reciprocated 😉
