  • Here is my beautiful Mona Lisa lipstick plant. It is currently flowering, so I thought it would be a great time to show how I care for this plant and how to make more of them.
    Here is the grow bulb that I was.

    I just planted a vine in soil today. I started to prop it in water, but it’s a young branch and I was afraid it would dry out, so I switched to dirt and put it in a plastic bag for humidity. That’s a stunning plant you have!

    Loved this video and your information. I purchased a mature Mona Lisa in June of this year. She’s growing like a beast! It makes me a little nervous but she should slow down when Fall arrives. I am grateful that she’s thriving and hopefully I won’t have to repot her too soon. I have concerns regarding how she’ll respond. I’m sure she will let me know when it’s time. 😊. Take care and stay safe!! 👌🌿🥰💚

    So glad you made a video on this one, I had exactly the same issues with leaves going wrinkly and stems dying back on the first plant I got, especially after flowering. Luckily, I could propagate some pieces before the mother plant died completely, and they seem to do much better. My hunch is that the combination of the roots establishing to a certain soil from the start and using a terracotta pot instead of plastic helps not to make them as finnicky about the watering, but I'm not familiar enough with the lipstick plant yet so if you have any experience on how they behave after a repotting I'd be curious to hear!

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing I really do when I bring new plants home is put it in a new mix of soil. I find a lot of store bought plants have their soil just soaked and don't have a lot of amendments like perlite added for drainage. Sometimes the plants respond well and sometimes not....so be careful. lol

    Aeschynanthus are tying for top position for my favourite plant type. I have Mona Lisa, Longicaulis Pink Polka, Japhrolepsis, Rasta and Pulcher Variegata. I also have plugs for Big Apple, Speciosus and Black Pagoda coming from the nursery in Spring. I must admit that the Mona Lisa is the only one that has given me some yellowing lower leaves. But they all thrive and the Mona Lisa and Rasta have flowered vastly and continually from bringing them home. The Longicaulis and Pink Polka took about 6 months to flower, but flowered well. The Longicaulis put out one set of flowers, the Pink Polka has exploded and has continued flowering for the last 2 months, so I'm interested to see if this will be an all year bloomer like the Mona Lisa and Rasta 🤔

I do have her since two years, and it was only 1 short String. Today I`ve shortened it, beause it was to long. Then Iput them in a Glas of Water, as you showed in the Video. Maybe you could tell me how long it takes for a Lipstickplant to bloom? Thank you so much for shareing😉

    If a leaf falls off of the stem will another leaf grow in its place at some point?Leaves are yellowing and dropping off.

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think so, but what I've done is if you have a bare stem then cut it back at the closest leaf node and it will start a new branch from that node. You can then take that cut portion and propagate in water if you want.

    My lipstick plant, not a Mona Lisa I don't think, is in a really ugly stage, with lots of gangly shoots going straight up. It's taking all of my willpower to not snip them off, just because I don't like how it looks, but I know soon enough they will be heavy enough to start trailing down and not up!!!!

      @@EverythingPlants I cut other ones off a few months ago, which I think prompted all this new growth. I don't think it looks too bad now, it just doesn't instantly trail down when the growth is new so I have to be patient.
