The word Matt was looking for for the translation projected above a stage at the opera is "supertitles." The prefix "super" means above, while the prefix "sub" means below. So, at a movie, the translation at the bottom of the screen is called "subtitles." The Metropolitan Opera in New York has its own system in which the translation is on the back of the seat in front of you and set up in such a way that any one person can only see the translation right in front of them and no where else in the theatre, so all that light isn't distracting and, if you don't want the translation, you can turn it off. I believe they also offer translation in multiple languages for the patrons. The system is proprietary and called "Met-Titles."
Yeah, birding fans unite!! I love birding too, and regularly use Merlin to ID birds too. And truth on the hummingbird feeders! It actually causes trouble for both hummingbirds and bees, if you don't change things over regularly. They grow like a fungus on their proboscis that won't let them retract it back into their mouth. Happens to Bees too (just learned this the other day in an insect group i'm in) I was lucky enough to catch Phantom of the Opera with Michael Crawford in and it was *amazing*. Sometimes the second string/traveling cast can be kind of iffy which is sad, because i know they work really hard.
I'm so obsessed with the Merlin app! I always tell anyone I can about it! Have you found the inaturalist app from the California Academy of Sciences? You take pictures and it'll help you ID, but for plants and bugs and frogs and stuff.
I quit my last job due to my mental health going down the drain at work as well as 1 hour drive to and from. I've finally been getting calls back after 2 months of healing and figuring out what makes me happy. I start my new job on the 24th and I'm so excited
Born and raised in California. My sweet little grandma came here from Britain, and I spent most of my childhood hanging out with her because she lived right down the street from me. Her and I would get DOWN to the soundtrack of Cats, and we would watch a Broadway recording of it on VHS together!! Every time it comes up in the Try universe it absolutely tickles me. Especially because Zach and I are both Leo's, and we both love Cats! 😂💜
I love all the musicals and stage play talk! I kinda wish matt can talk about his opera past more in the future. Like how was it, what position was he, what was he learning on that school, what is his favorite aria, etc, i think its such an interesting and rare experience that not everyone does
Sean Evans eats the spicy wings every single time. When a guest is skeptical that he's actually eating along and suffering with them, he'll offer to switch boards to prove it. Also sometimes you can tell he's dying at Da Bomb and the Last Dab lol.
I was offended on his behalf at them saying he doesn't lol he always matches the guests too if they add extra till Conan went too hard even for him at the end 😅
"Why is everyone birding all of the sudden?" No lie, my hippie bestie JUST sent me a meme about this very thing! 😂 OH MY GOD SHE ALSO MENTIONED MAGGIE'S APP! ❤
As a short person, I like getting the center front row mezzanine in an aisle seat for broadway shows. I can see everything since I'm high up and no one is in front of me, and the aisle assures I at least don't have someone sitting on one side of me
For the Hot Ones conversation, he does sometimes swap with the guest and still reacts his usual way. Unless we don't know it's partially scripted, I believe both his and the guest's wings are equally spiced. I also don't understand bird watching. But I'm also in the city dealing with pigeons, seagulls and geese. I'm more in awe seeing crows and hawks, mainly because they scare the previously mentioned birds in the neighbourhood I live in. I do get intrigued with strange birds I haven't seen before though.
A soundtrack is a part of film...I think it's the strips on the side...that hold the sound for the film. So the score of a film can be referred to as a soundtrack, but a recording of a Broadway show (with no film involved) is referred to as a cast album. It can get confusing, because sometimes even record labels themselves mislabel cast albums as soundtracks. And, of course, some musicals get made into movies and would then have both a soundtrack AND a cast album and those would be very different things. Depending on the popularity of a show, you can really go down the rabbit hole when trying to be clear about what specific album you're talking about. CHICAGO, for example, has many cast albums (eg: original Broadway, Broadway revival, London revival), but only one soundtrack because it was only made into a movie once. WEST SIDE STORY, for example, has multiple cast albums AND soundtracks. Even though movies seem to be moving away from actual film, in favor of digital, the distinctions are still used for the sake of clarity. So, long story short: Soundtrack=Movie, Cast Album=Broadway/London/Wherever on Stage.
So there actually aren't Blue Jays in Southern California (They're mainly midwest/east coast birds but will occasionally go to Washington State and Oregon), but what Maggie was probably thinking of are California Scrub Jays- and if you want to attract more of them try adding some freeze dried mealworms to the bird seed! And other birds probably will not complain either 🙂
Yay theatre! I see a ton of theatre so this makes me happy 🥰 I normally like to sit in the mezz to get a better view of the stage though I do enjoy sitting in the aisle if there was something like Lion King (I saw the last Gypsy revival in NY when still in high school and got the aisle seat and almost got steamrolled by Patti LuPone making her entrance in my aisle as Mama Rose and it was awesome 😍)
The Lion King is the longest running Broadway musical, and last I knew, the woman who plays Rafiki holds the record as the longest-running Broadway cast member who plays the same role. It is my dream to see Lion King on Broadway with her as Rafiki, but tickets to see it even after 25+ years on Broadway are still over $200. Maybe one day, and I just hope she's still playing the character by the time I can finally see it.
Just kidding. The person who plays the character now was ensemble/understudy, and began playing the role in 2001. She still holds the record, however. Also, tickets to see the show are actually cheaper than I thought, currently. Still not cheap, but I'm thinking about going next spring.
Such a bummer that the touring production of Hadestown wasn't good for you! I've also had varying degrees of quality with touring productions in SF. Broadway is definitely top notch! My favorites are Lion King and Book of Mormon. Seen them each 5 times!
I was tempted to see BOM since it's supposed to be funny. But thinking on it now and how Matt described it, even if you aren't religious, making fun of someone else's religion is in poor taste and a real AH move. We shouldn't make fun of anyone's religious beliefs. Just like we shouldn't make fun of other personal things about people. I don't think Mormons would watch the show anyway, but it's still a AH move on an ethical level.
I disagree with Matt’s assessment of BOOK OF MORMON. It doesn’t make fun of Mormons at all. It does lay out a lot of their beliefs, which, objectively, a lot of people are going to find nutty or crazy or funny. But that’s on the audience member, not the show itself. A lot of Mormons love it, apparently. The characters themselves aren’t spoofing Mormons…they’re playing perhaps a slightly exaggerated version of Mormons (or perhaps not) in a particularly absurd situation and environment. I’d give it a shot…you can’t really decide if you like of don’t like something if you haven’t seen it. You might fall in love with it. So much of it is very clever and fun.
Matt saying a team outing when referring to 2ndtry going out means he’s here to stay
I absolutely love him with Becky and Maggie.
Why wouldn’t he? The hosts of this pod have never been the official Try Guys talents.
They also said Matt would stay on the trypod and that Eugene still has his stake in the company he just not acting as talent anymore.

36:26 this has to be the third time you answered this advice 💀💀💀
Just realised this podcast isn’t on 2nd Try. Thought I’d just missed it but only the TryPod is on there
I'm pretty sure Zach said in his AMA IG story that if there is enough of a demand, YCSWU will also be on 2nd Try TV.
@@jmason1770 It's a little weird that they don't just offer everything they create for people who pay money for their site, though.

up in Oregon we have a woodpecker attacking vent on our roof for our oven and it is so annoying, he's either trying to get spiders or his reflection 😅
Broadway albums are one of my top genres! Lately, I’ve had The Notebook on repeat 🥲

I appreciate y’all so much❤
The Lion King is a fantastic musical. I've only seen three live-Lion King, Wicked, and Six. Lion King was my first and still my favourite.
As someone who cleans houses for a living, I had to come here and say #teamshark. Dyson are the worst lol I've tried them all. Love ya! Lol

Omg I'm watching Sex and the City for the first time right now and literally watched the post-it episode TODAY 🥰
the Hadestown album is AMAZING

Heyyy Eastman School of Music shoutout!
I thought I was the only one using the Merlin app 😂

HOLY SHIT someone adapted Illinois to Broadway?!?!
Binged sweet tooth s3 it’s pretty amazing!
Matt took voice lessons at EASTMAN?!
Pretty please add this show to 2nd Try app 🥰
If there is enough of a demand, it will be added to 2nd Try TV (Zach AMA IG story)

Maggie - You don't pronounce the "S" in Illinois. I am surprised Becky hasn't told you this.
She pronounced it correctly because she’s talking about the musical, Illinoise.
As an Illinoisan, it's also just funny to me to say it wrong. Kind of like the band Arkansauce.
