Frijoles have been a favorite of mine since I was little. On the days I don't feel like cooking and my teenage kids are out, I can just have a bowl of frijoles and tortillas and I'm all set & happy. Beautiful recipe! Thank you for sharing!
I went my whole life without eating beans until I met my husband. I thought I didn't like beans for whatever reason. Now I am perfectly happy with just some beans and tortillas too. I freaking love beans, especially with lard or bacon grease. I just made charro beans for the first time tonight and would be happy to only eat that until the whole huge pot is gone. I still can't believe I went my whole life without eating beans. ☹️
Great video! Going through the beans was my favorite part as a kid. My Nanny would sit me down so I could look through them and take out rocks. This was back then when you could get beans at HEB that you could bag yourself.
Mmm they look good! Roll that beautiful bean footage! LOL Some recipes have a ton of different meats, but I like this, just a little bacon and beans & veg.
I made your charro beans several times from your other video when you cooked them over the fire. My husband loves them! I pressure can my beans so they are already ready to use. Thanks
Never waste any beans ,my grandma would say it's a sin.😂. Pick the Rock and dirt out and wash em , throw the smoked ham hock and tomatoes and onions and peppers in, and the bacon grease in and cook em... with jalapeno peppers and cracklings cooked with cheese in the cornbread on the side cooked in iron skillet. We only had an still cook on in iron skillets..My are over 120 years old handed down from grandma and grandpa..😂 But we had so many mouths to feed I understand why she done it. Great video. Keep them coming. Love and blessings to you all ❤️🌎🕯️
Gassy? Nice thing about soaking, and tossing out the soak water, is they are less gassy. I soaked old beans, with an added ingredient, and they were soft enough to eat after only cooking for 45 minutes, on the stovetop. I cooked them longer anyway.
Thank you for the smoked paprika tip. Especially helpful for those who want a pork alternative! I usually add bacon but with all these recalls happening, I’m scared now! Lol I’ll try the recipe this week
I am so glad to be able to re-learn to cook with your recipes and enjoy the flavors! I really like the additional suggestions you make. Thank you for taking the time to share your recipes.
They look delicious. I know they are. I wanted to share that instead of bacon I use smoked turkey. They taste delicious too. Thank you for sharing your great recipes.
@SimplyMamaCooks As you know, my cooking focus is mainly in cast iron but also carbon steel cookware. I have a 6 quart Instant Pot (pressure cooker) arriving soon to lesson the heavy lifting in cooking. Do you have an Instant Pot and, if so, how can I adapt your excellent recipes to achieve success in cooking them in my new gadget please? Your time and assistance is really appreciated.
This is perhaps one of the easiest recipes I have seen and makes me want to makw some today. I have eaten beans that people put pork skins, hotdogs weiners, and the bacon. All are good. Its whatever your preference is. Thank You for making this video. Saludos
Mmmm Mmmm. Looks so 😋 Yummy. I had used your recipe. These are so delicious. I used No sugar added bacon. I have to watch my sugar and sodium intake. And I don't really care for smoky taste anything. I'm not to have smoked foods either. But I just switched a few things I still used everything else. But left out cilantro. My hubby and I don't like cilantro like you say use what works for you use or leave out😊. I found your Cookbook at at Walmart and we have been using your awesome recipes. Thank-you. Angelika. Simply mama cooks ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉. My hubby makes Spanish rice 🍚 on the side and we like to have with fried eggs 🍳 in the morning 🌄 next day. 😋😊😊❤❤
My grand mother used to just clean them and boil them ..adding spices etc she also put the bacon in the water..I never saw her fry it first .. I love your videos !
I love these stir fry recipes. I learned to always have on hand Hoisin sauce and Chinese cooking wine in addition to soy and others. Yummy! I’m growing some bean sprouts right now.
Oh this looks yummy! I will make this soon! One question- I was told not to cook beans and tomatoes at the same time. The tomato acid slows down the cooking of the beans. I’ve always cooked the beans and added the tomatoes towards the end. I’ll try this your way and see! Thanks for this!
I'm definitely going to do your recipe next time. I usually use ham hocks. One extra step using them to cook the meat off bone and use liquid. Your way is easier. 👍♥️💋✌🇺🇸🙏
Every fall when the weather turns I’ve made beans with smoked ham hocks to get the smokey flavor but have never made charro beans (with jalapeño and cilantro). Will have to try this fall.
You frequently add tomato chicken bullion to your recipes. I have packets of Sazon Goya with Azafran (saffron) and another box with coriander and achiote would this work?
In my opinion, the best part of this video is the guidance rather than an established recipe. I learned early on that recipes are a starting point, and technique will dictate how the finished product will taste.
This is great and I love bean recipes but I've never made charro beans but I will now, your quick soaked beans before you rinse them has a broth that looks like mine after they've cooked. I love my pinto bean broth so I won't make beans unless they soak overnight because I don't want to loose an ounce of my broth, I've never used smoked paprika to give a smoky flavor to beans but I have used better than bullion ham base which really gives the beans a really smoky flavor. Have you ever used Mexican oregano in your beans? Because I swear that some Mexican restaurants add something to their beans that makes the flavor so much better than canned refried beans and I thought it might be Mexican oregano.
I've seen you're being recipe before this is this is mona66 and clintonville Wisconsin and I can tell you I love fixing beans that way and when I have the fixings I throw in whatever I can and I've got the tomato chicken bouillon I've got a big container of it and I love that stuff it makes everything taste so good and I use the other chicken and beef too and I also use real beef and chicken stock and I can get my hands on it I love putting all those things and the beans when I have it it makes them taste so good and thank you for the your ideas and then all comes out really really good I still haven't got the flower tortilla down I know what you said and I've tried it every different way but no matter what it always ends up too thick and and not pliable I don't know why but I'm really good with dough I've made breads and sent them homemade cinnamon rolls you know and I make yeast rolls all the time so I don't know what I'm doing but one of these days they won't be able to do that thanks for your recipes and I'm praying for your family God bless you shalom
Why soak them? I never need to but it could be different country where it is necessary. Thanks for sharing your charo bean recipe. That I need to try in the very near future.
The quick-soak method is usually included on most dried beans instructions, I've found, but what to do when one remembers to soak beans overnight before cooking and the beans still don't cook soft even after several hours at a rolling boil? That happened to me today, making navy bean soup.
Frijoles have been a favorite of mine since I was little. On the days I don't feel like cooking and my teenage kids are out, I can just have a bowl of frijoles and tortillas and I'm all set & happy. Beautiful recipe! Thank you for sharing!
I agree: a bowl of delicious beans always makes a fine meal. I often have that for lunch when working from home. Satisfying and healthy.
Nothing better than a simple bowl of beans with fresh tortilla.
Charro beans are a favorite in my house too! We add chorizo to ours 😋
Spanish or mexicano ..
Agree some chorizo and I also add some roasted and ground chili de arbol for a nice kick.
This is a good recipe. One of my favorite meals is charro beans, Mexican rice, flour tortillas, iced tea.
I made your charro beans tonight. It's so good!! The tomato bullion helped the flavor! It's my husband's birthday today and he requested this.
Thank you for sharing this recipe. I love charro beans. Now I can make this at home.😋😋
I always look forward to your videos! I miss my grandmas cooking so much and you’ve helped me find that! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼
Great video! Going through the beans was my favorite part as a kid. My Nanny would sit me down so I could look through them and take out rocks. This was back then when you could get beans at HEB that you could bag yourself.
I love frijoles, I make them all the time. I don’t mine cooking the beans without soaking them because I like to watch anything cook.
The tomoato chicken boullion powder is amazing! I just discovered it and it is a game changer as far as flavor. Love!!
Mmm they look good! Roll that beautiful bean footage! LOL Some recipes have a ton of different meats, but I like this, just a little bacon and beans & veg.
I made your charro beans several times from your other video when you cooked them over the fire. My husband loves them!

I loved the light music at the end 😊
Love all of your videos! Especially love how clean your stove is! LOL! I can't cook on a dirty stove :)
I never soak them. I use the Instant Pot. 90 minutes and natural release. Perfect every time!
What did you use before the Instant Pot?
Aren't you special
Gassy? Nice thing about soaking, and tossing out the soak water, is they are less gassy. I soaked old beans, with an added ingredient, and they were soft enough to eat after only cooking for 45 minutes, on the stovetop. I cooked them longer anyway.

I love charro beans !!!
I will definitely try this recipe, I can taste it just looking at you serve them up🙏🏻🌹❤️
I did it! OMG they are amazing and just like Rio Lerma. They had got too expensive so I decided to make my own. Thank you ❤
I am so glad to be able to re-learn to cook with your recipes and enjoy the flavors! I really like the additional suggestions you make. Thank you for taking the time to share your recipes.
Thank you for the tips and for the crock pot version of harro beans
Love beans. Thank you for sharing Angelika have a blessed evening stay safe and healthy. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏
They look delicious. I know they are. I wanted to share that instead of bacon I use smoked turkey. They taste delicious too. Thank you for sharing your great recipes.
Awesome episode Ma!! Those beans look absolutely FIRE 🔥😋👌!!
Looks amazing and delicious 😋 thank you for sharing your recipe 😋🤗 hv a great day family 💕🥰
Thanks for the tip. I made some today. I need to soak them next time. It took to long to cook them. My mistake. 😬. Have a good weekend ‘
You do the same! 😊🙏🏼
How would it be if they were turned into refried beans I bet they would be delicious 😋

Your recipe was sooo good! We love charro beans ! My Mama adds Chipotles some times❤
Enjoy watching you.
Thank You!
My grand mother used to just clean them and boil them ..adding spices etc she also put the bacon in the water..I never saw her fry it first .. I love your videos !
I have used a lot of your recipes and enjoy every one of them thank you so much
I love bacon or ham in my frijoles. Looks yummy.
Hi A!!! I never made beans. My dear husband ♡ always made them for him and our kids. Your look really tasty. Nice video!!!...
I love beans. These so delicious, thank you.
Awesome thank you so much for sharing
Will be making this today thanks for the recipe
Very nice! I like your recipe and how you do it. Thanks for another wonderful video. 💙💙💙
Looks great I love Charlotte beans at my favorite restaurant
Yum! Here’s my bowl!! 🥣
Looks good, should taste good!
I will be making some for supper. Thank you so very much for sharing your wonderful recipes. God bless you and your family
I love these stir fry recipes. I learned to always have on hand Hoisin sauce and Chinese cooking wine in addition to soy and others. Yummy! I’m growing some bean sprouts right now.
Thank you for sharing this I’m trying them out tonight!!! Cold weather frijoles are the best!!!
Love your cooking❤
Thank you
Yes thank you! Yum 😋

I'd have to agree with that tomatoes slow down the cooking process I've experienced that making American style chili.
I made these, Arroz Con Pollo, and Blondies all this week.... I'm set for a few days... It's all so delicious 😋
Thank you! 😊
I'm definitely going to do your recipe next time.
I usually use ham hocks. One extra step using them to cook the meat off bone and use liquid. Your way is easier.
👍♥️💋✌🇺🇸🙏
For a smoky flavor you could also use just a dash of liquid smoke! 🤗❤️
Yes! That also works. 😊
For charro beans I really think bacon is a beautiful traditional addition not to be skipped 😋
Tobasco has a smoked chipotle version.
Or smoked bacon and smoked paprika!
Every fall when the weather turns I’ve made beans with smoked ham hocks to get the smokey flavor but have never made charro beans (with jalapeño and cilantro). Will have to try this fall.
I want to make this. I seen another person did this and it looked amazing
👍❤❤❤❤😋love beans.
Oh love charro beans! Yours looks delicious!
I’ve been looking for a charro beans recipe definitely going to make 💕 all the recipes you share. Could you use canned beans instead for a short cut?
Yes you can, just rinse them before adding them to the recipe.
She made a video about using canned beans for charro beans. Look it up it's called something like 'fake out charro beans'
I will definitely try this recipe. Looks very yummy. No soaking as I am hooked on the pressure pot he he. Not sure how long 🤔, maybe start at 1 hr.
Thanks for sharing your recipe 😋
Delicious 🥰🥰
Yay now I can make charro. beans ☺️
Nice thank you
Looks So Delicious 🤤😋🤤😋❣️❣️❣️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥂🥂🥂
This is about how I make Hoppin Johns ... sans cilantro. Black Eyed Peas, onion, bacon, can of rotel. Delicious over rice!
Looks so delicious.
The veggies would be sooo good on top of some eggs or eggs and toast with some fresh avocado.
Looks 😃
Yumm!! Can't wait to try this!!
Can you cook this recipe in a crock pot? I work long hrs. I would like to use this looks delicious!!
Thank you, tomorrow I'll make time.
I love your videos.🤤🤗
You frequently add tomato chicken bullion to your recipes. I have packets of Sazon Goya with Azafran (saffron) and another box with coriander and achiote would this work?
Made these and LOVE them BUT there are only two of us so we can't eat them all in a week. Can these be frozen successfully?? Thanks
I freeze my beans in freezer bags. I lay them flat so it's easier to thaw or cook straight from the freezer. I make portions for meals.
In my opinion, the best part of this video is the guidance rather than an established recipe. I learned early on that recipes are a starting point, and technique will dictate how the finished product will taste.
Looks delicious 😋
Looks yummy
Me and my family are obsessed with these beans lol
Yummy
Do you use Achiote in any recipes?
This recipe sounds delicious. Can I use dried cilantro instead of fresh?
Hola, se te olvido poner le chorizo y salchicha o no usas chorizo y salchicha?
Yummy!!! 🫶
This is great and I love bean recipes but I've never made charro beans but I will now, your quick soaked beans before you rinse them has a broth that looks like mine after they've cooked. Have you ever used Mexican oregano in your beans? Because I swear that some Mexican restaurants add something to their beans that makes the flavor so much better than canned refried beans and I thought it might be Mexican oregano.
Try the Casserole brand, super clean and great color........better than La Mexicana.
Yummy!!🥰
Yo los lavo y los dejo en agua toda la noche y al otro dia les quito el agua los pongo en agua limpia y los pongo a cocer
I always forget to soak. Thank you.
😊👍🏼
I taste soap when I eat cilantro but I still love it 😅😅
Why soak them? I never need to but it could be different country where it is necessary. Thanks for sharing your charo bean recipe. That I need to try in the very near future.
If you use canned beans should you rinse them or just put the whole can with the sauciness in
They look fab..........Charo beans are essentially the south of the border version of pork and beans. Thanks for sharing.
If you add baking soda to your beans it changes the ph of the water and the beans are creamier
Soaking liquid or cooking liquid?
How much soda?
Cooking liquid and 1/4 teaspoon or less
Okay so what if I did soak them overnight? How long to boil?
Yummo
The quick-soak method is usually included on most dried beans instructions, I've found, but what to do when one remembers to soak beans overnight before cooking and the beans still don't cook soft even after several hours at a rolling boil? That happened to me today, making navy bean soup.
Add baking soda. Try pressure cooking them.
Happened to me a couple of times. I think the beans were old.
When did you add the whole jalapeño?
How do we prevent them from turning dark brown?
Garnish with corn tortilla squares, a sprig of oregano, some diced onion, a dollop of sour cream....avocado slices!
