When I saw the approach over the Islands all I could think of was a poem... High Flight Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds, - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. Took me back to my flying days. Certainly choppy at 500 foot (I remember those days) and as predicted, it was the same landing. But a good flight. Flew over the channel in 2011 to south of France that took 3.5 days to get there , flying for 3 hours in the morning, then resting and then 3 hours in the evening then camping under the wing. Happy Days.
Great video, reminds me of my one "sea crossing" in a trike. It was a bit more primitive than yours, back in the early 1980s. We flew from the usually busy microlight "airport" at Middleton Sands, south of Heysham, across Morecambe Bay to either the old ex RAF/USAF field at Cark or the grounds of Holker Hall a little further north, can't remember which and my log book's not handy. Single cylinder 250 cc two stroke, and practically no instruments, no radio, no parachute. I had a boat's compass, bought from the local chandlers, and a climber's or hiker's cheapo altimeter. Fuel gauge was a transparent sight tube on the tank, and airspeed was the feel of wind in my face, but John had a home-made ASI on his machine. I have to admit, I felt less comfortable on that flight than any others! I got a nice photo (on film in those days, of course) of John's aircraft below me as we flew over Heysham Harbour and Lighthouse. Happy days!
I enjoyed the video. But it would've been 10x better if you had pointed out, maybe with graphics, the different towns, villages and landmarks. Such a shame

Cool, glad you're sorted! I still have a little puff of pride when i see the struts, cables and wings, wondering whether they were any that I had made! 🤔
Hi, no I don't, I do have a lifejacket and personal locator beacon, the problem with immersion suits in a flexwing is it's not practical to wear it all the time and they are quite bulky to store when not in use

Wow, amazing to see 😍... thanks for filming it 👌. I had a gorgeous week in the Isles of Scilly about 20 years ago and flew by helicopter... That was brilliant. My family home was Lelant, although I now live in Northumberland. Loved the commentary as its difficult to pick most places for your height. Much was great accompaniment too. Looking forward to the next one.😂
Amazing! The first video of this kind I've ever watched! I had a PPL so am used to restricted views with Cessnas! I showed your video to a friend today and the question they asked was, 'Does he have a parachute?'! I assumed the answer is no, as I never carried a parachute in a Cessna but please confirm the answer! What's the furthest you've flown in that machine and what's the range on a good weather day? And another 'silly' question from the same friend: Ask him if the machine has a name! (LOL!) Thanks!
Hi, first of all, no we don't carry parachutes, myself and a friend flew 2 of these all the way to the North cape in Norway and back last year, almost 5000 miles in total, as for range, we can do up to 4 hours on a full rank at around 80 mph, so 320 at a time, the most we've done in a day was about 550 miles if I remember correctly, all the videos of that journey are on you tube, check them out at dave bromley microlight adventures, let me know what you think, regards, dave

Cool, glad you're sorted! I still have a little puff of pride when i see the struts, cables and wings, wondering whether they were any that I had made! 🤔
Lovely video Sir. Subscribed.
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for subscribing
What precautions do you take for crossing the sea in case of engine failure?
Hi, I have lifejacket and a personal locator beacon with me whenever I'm crossing large amounts of water
Do you wear an immersion suit for flights over water?
Hi, no I don't, I do have a lifejacket and personal locator beacon, the problem with immersion suits in a flexwing is it's not practical to wear it all the time and they are quite bulky to store when not in use
grear video. Amazing views.❤
Thanks, glad you liked it
new subscriber here hello from Ausralia
Hi, nice to have you on board, welcome
Love the musical accompaniment
Thanks, glad you liked it
Lovely video, what speed does this thing do normally? I'd love to learn to fly one of these. Looks so peaceful.
Hi, there are various models of flexwing with different performance levels, I usually fly around 80mph but can fly at 100mph if required
@@davesmicrolightadventures Interesting, thanks for taking the time to reply.
Thanks for posting Dave. I'm new to your channel and am always looking out for flexwing Microlight vids so as to appreciate the spectacular pictures at snail pace. Are annotations feasible when editing? Keep posting!
Glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for watching, the videos of our trip to the North cape last year are all on my channel as well if you want a bit more adventure
Annotation reqd "Portreath on R" etc
@@davesmicrolightadventures Can't beat the beauty of the Scilly Isles in a flexwing. Perfect for coastline flying. Subs will soar 😀Have you visited Lundy yet?
We havent managed to get there yet, we flew past it on the way from devon into wales@CD-ie3fp
Youre absolutely right, i need to think about that more@paulgraham2371
Beautiful views 👍
Thank you
That was visually stunning 👍
Thanks, glad you liked it
Wow, amazing to see 😍... thanks for filming it 👌. I had a gorgeous week in the Isles of Scilly about 20 years ago and flew by helicopter... It was as clear and beautiful as your flight... as you say.. Could be anywhere in the Caribbean. We've also been to the Maldives and I think the Isles of Scilly are as beautiful 💖🙏🏖️
Thanks for the comments, glad you enjoyed it
Looks good, and certainly a lot faster than my old 582 Quantum 😂 This video is getting dangerously close to convincing me to try and re-do my GST again one day!
Go for it, you know you want to 😁
Great video and flight , must trade one of my bikes in for some magic wings . NICE
@@garyspracticalworkshop357 go for it !!
That was brilliant. My family home was Lelant, although I now live in Northumberland.
Loved the commentary as its difficult to pick most places for your height. Much was great accompaniment too.
Looking forward to the next one.😂
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it
What is the crossing time?
Hi, it was about 30 mins over the water
Isles of Scilly!!never the Scilly isles!!
Great video, I do plan to visit the Scillys soon
Wow, just wow!
Hi, it made me feel just the same doing it many thanks for the comments
