    My father was the Director for all episodes of Out of Town. Always pleased to hear people recalling it. I've now settled in Dorset, close to many locations they used when filming.

    In 1947 I remember my father driving down from Tarrant Hinton to the water splash in Tarrant Monkton to park in the middle and wash the mud off the car. - unthinkable today. - I thank you and JH from the bottom of my heart for bringing back memories of that lost world.

      I'm so glad my humble programme bought you such pleasure. Thank you. If you want to see more of the Tarrant Valley, my friend Dave Ford (thats also his channel name) has just released his own walk in Jack's footsteps. Worth a look if you have the time. Many of us owe so much to JH for awakening an interest in the countryside and old customs and skills.

      That was really so kind of you Bonny. I do worry a bit sometimes, given that I don't actually work from a script. Just light research beforehand sometimes. But what you see is what you get as they say. It's me, warts and all. And it's from the heart, not what I feel people want me to say. So glad there are some who do like that approach.

    As a child of about 8years old and living in the heart of the Midlands, jack was an escape for me and my family 50 years ago, from the industrial area to the country side was beautiful to watch. Even on an old black and white tv, now I watch him on the laptop and still love his programs, keep up the good work and thank you for remembering old jack.

      You are so very kind. Jack was a hero of mine in my childhood. I come from an East Sussex country family, so naturally my videos are mainly in that area. But, as my lady lives in Dorset, it was wonderful to be able to do a little tribute. Hopefully I'll be able to do a few more in that area in a similar vein. I had no idea my little effort would become so popular, but am pleased it seems to have provided happy memories for so many folk.

    Charming presentation, Bernie, and I also love to re-visit places where people I admire once went. When I was in my early teens I met JH at a country fair in Devon, I've never forgotten how pleasant he was even to a little whipper-snapper like myself. My sister farms in that region so I know the topography fairly well but I never knew the meaning of the word 'winterbourne'. Did you know the chap who created that Hovis advert later went on to make the cult film, Blade runner? Ridley Scott!

      Thank you so much Dennis. I have been humbled by the fact that I seem to have brought back memories to some people, with this little video of mine. All the more surprising because I hadn't even planned to make it. It was mainly due to a Jack Hargreaves programme that Jackie and I were there in the first place!! Your memories appear to even pre-date Jack so for me that's extra interesting. I can just imagine you all going home with wet bums and being scolded by your mothers!! You've brought it to life. Thank you again.

    Thanks Bernie. I've lived in Dorset for over 20 years and never visited Tarrant Monkton. One of these days I'm going to be brave and turn off the main road and do some exploring. I've only just discovered Jack Hargreaves but what a brilliant programme Out of Town was. I've learnt so much - he had a brilliant way of explaining things which was fun, interesting and informative. Many thanks and God bless you Rachel Turner-Smith x

Jack was my hero when I was younger, and, although I never set out to deliberately copy his style, I hope mine is similar enough to keep peoples' attention. My lovely partner Jackie lives in Poole, so I am hoping to do more exploring in Dorset when I am able to be with her there. Hoping to explore the River Winterbourne in particular, so watch this space!!

    Thank you very much for making & sharing this video! The Jack Hardgreaves series are still wonderful: I saw them during Covid. But you make a good follow-up, as I'm concerned. Can't you even start with a bit of "his opening-tune" ... 🌷 love from Holland

      @stationmasterschoice-walku1307  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much. Jack Hargreaves was my hero when younger, so I take your comment as a great compliment. Whilst I hope my videos might be seen as "in the style" of Jack, I never set out to do that, nor, indeed, would I wish to copy him. My style has evolved as I have gone along. There are some copyright issues with music, as you may well know, so the original Max Bygraves song is a definite "no-no". But I might try the Spanish Theme at some time, because that is by far the best in my opinion. Thank you Holland, nice to know I have some international viewers.

    • @stationmasterschoice-walku1307
      @stationmasterschoice-walku1307  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I know it is. The point I was trying to make was that when in that area, ie north Dorset, Wiltshire borders, Shaftesbury is the go to place for lardy cake. Agreed, the wording could have been better, but thank you for pointing it out as it means you were hopefully enjoying the video. I'll look at it again though and see if I can amend it when I have the time.

      It was compulsive viewing for me. But my interest has been rekindled recently by the availability on TH-cam. Hence my choice of Tarrant Monkton because it fitted in with what I wanted to do for Jackie's birthday. It's quite possible I might do more like this in the future as it would give us things to do when I am down that way. I never set out conciously to copy the format or be like Jack in any way, but I am now beginning to see how those programmes all those years ago might be having a subconcious influence. If people are happy with that , then I take it as a great compliment.
