Sad to hear of the passing of Big Jack. A great man in all respects, much admired. RIP Jack.

i had the pleasure of his company in a hotel bar late one night back in 2007 in manchester, a fantastic conversation maker who easily talked me up to his room and had some boy on boy fun

I Love these old programmes. A great antidote to Chris Packham and those like him.

This is something you cant explain to non hunters. Its man in his most natural state, and has to be lived to be appreciated. Its not about just killing.

I miss programs like this about country living. The nanny state with its pc has done for this way of life and now of course all game comes from Tesco’s.

x y these programs are years old so it’s now even worse. A lot of kids now don’t even know milk comes from a cow.

    • @stephenhowlett6345

x y yea I was talking proper milk and I’ve always worked on farms so although it’s now frowned upon to dare eat or drink anything not from a supermarket, if your willing to risk drinking real milk it is still possible. I’m afraid the countryside here is now only available if your willing to pay some rich land owner a weeks wages for an hours camping. I don’t think I’d swop Australia for Blighty anymore your better of staying put.

True hunters these two are, unlike some people today who want to blast everything. And it’s not always about getting a shot, just enjoying the moment and the surroundings. Rip chaps

Amazing television in those days... if these type of shows were aired today for children to watch I think you’d see a lot less of the anti brigade in the next generations

This was a great show. Can't believe someone can make a living hunting pigeons. And the dog was great. Notice the Scotch bottle in the blind.

No problem with wildfowling or any hunting that's for the pot. Ditto the control of pests and vermin pigeons, rats ect. The only thing I vehemently disagree with is fox hunting with hounds. Posh, entitled hooray Henry's and Henrietta's who think because they have money are above the law and prosecution. As OW said "The unspeakable in pursuit of the inedible" Fox hounds in West Oxfordshire came into my parents garden and my Mums little terrier was nearly ragged. My Dad told the huntsman in no uncertain terms he would dispatch any hounds that attacked his three pet dogs. The huntsman told him if he didn't like the ways of the country to fuck off back to London and if he bothered the hunts hounds he'd live to regret it. My Dad was 80 and grew up in the Fens of Cambridgeshire, he'd won the Millitary Medal in North Africa 1942 and here he was being threatened and abused by a man half his age on a huge Thoroughbred dressed in the colours of the local hunt. If Id been there I'd have stuffed the bastards horn and whip up his entitled arse. But that would have only bought trouble to my parents who lived in a quite secluded part of a small village.

its unfortunate that your dad had such a bad experience with that particular arsehole. I wonder how long ago that was because from my experience the people sitting on the horse today tend to be the local plumber and sparks a fireman the doctor and the vicar etc. the days of the hoorays and toffs seem to have gone glad to say. the trouble is it takes years to build a good rep but one arshole can destroy it in seconds and can colour opinions forever

I would like to meet the man who was capable of such a feet your lucky to get of more than a couple of shots before they scatter to the four winds. and then wait for the next flock and repeat
