Correct. Many note that Jesus is recognizing tithing in this passage but ignore that what the Pharisees were tithing had nothing to do with money. The items “mint, dill and cumin” are spices - produce items, which makes sense as only produce and livestock from within the Holy Land were accepted as tithe items. It’s also noteworthy that Jesus is indicting the Pharisees, not praising them in the true context of this passage. The fact that they were practicing compulsory tithing according to the law at that time doesn’t excuse their negligence of spiritual “more important” matters - “justice, mercy and faithfulness.” So indirectly, Jesus is calling tithing a lessor part of the law, which places it on a lessor plane as that of the moral law.
Matthew 23:23 Jesus didn't command tithe, he pointed out the hypocrisy of the pharisees. Tithe was under the law but now we are under grace. We are to give cheerfully and generous. Simply don't be manipulated but give what you can from your heart.
Tithing is old covenant and Jesus lived by the law. We are in new covenant tithing is not our obligation. We give from the heart not by the law. I would rather give money to humble brother from third world country than to the church
If what Jesus said in Mathew 23;23 only ended with his death and resurrection and we are no more under the Jewish law, My question is now which God wrote in 2nd Corinthians about generous giving that will supersede that of the God of Abraham and the instructions of our Lord Jesus Christ giving to Ceazer what belongs to him and unto God what is of God, Are we now serving the 3 different God, ie God of Abraham, our Lord Jesus Christ and God of Paul the apostle? Hnnmm confusing in the body of Christ, tithing is for the maintenance of the house of God taking care of the priest and other Minister's of God freewill and generous giving is for Evangelical works and Care. Please let stop this confusion God remains God there's nothing like the old and the new covenant God. If that is the case why is the Bible a book, it would have been separated,
Brother , the standard is higher in the new covenant - it says that those who gathered alot had no abundance, and those who gathered little lacked nothing ... It also says that how can the love of God dwell in us if we have material things and see other brother in need without giving him what he needs So if the love of money can extinguish Gods love in our heart, thats a very serious leaven we need to avoid, because the love of God through us and in us is Gods solution to sin in the world And also, i saw in your video on divorce that you translated porneia to specifically mean adultery, this is wrong , in most cases in the NT it points to porneia meaning fornication (pre marital sex specifically) "We were not born in fornication, we have one father - Abraham" "For the cause of fornication each man should have his own wife" "3For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: 4That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour" "The body is not for fornication, but for the Lord , do you not know that anyone who holds himself to a prostitute is one flesh with her"
I need the spirit of discernment to respond to this🤔
Good stuff! What software are you using to present this?

Thanks, Mark for your wise comment!

I thought "tithe" literally meant "one tenth"?
Jesus would never command you to anything! God gives you free will!! You tithe because you want to not because you have to!!!😮
