10-Hour Layover in Narita, Japan!!! What to do?

  • I had a long layover during the day in Narita airport, which is about 1.5 hours away from Tokyo. Though Tokyo was somewhat close by, I decided to visit Narita City, which is only a 10-minute train ride from the airport...was not disappointed!
Though it was a cold & rainy day, it did not stop me or many other tourists from visiting the walking city! The big highlights for me were: Buddhist temple, rows of shops selling snacks to souvenirs, & the food (Unagi and takoyaki).

Hey man! Awesome video! I have a 6hr40min layover at Narita soon and I want to do the same thing you did, explore Narita City! Just got questions if you don't mind helping me out:
1.) How long did it take you to clear out customs and purchase train tickets once you got off plane?
2.) How long was train ride to Narita?
3.) About how much in US Dollars did you exchange for Japanese Yen? (I wanna eat unagi, purchase train ticket, buy a small souvenier or two)
4.) How long did it take for you once you got back to the airport to go through security, customs, and check in for your connecting flight?
    Thanks again!

I’ll be travelling to Asia with an overnight layover at Narita. So from Narita Terminal 2 you take keisei mainline platform 3 to Narita station, how about your trip back to the airport, which platform did you take? Thanks.

Question for anyone. I have two huge pieces of luggage. Will my luggage remain secured with my layover connection or will I have to drag it around with me?

If this is checked luggage, these are usually transferred by the airline. Double check with them 1st though!

DO NOT try to hop a train to downtown Tokyo unless you take the express train. I was on the train for 3 or 4 hours trying to get to the Tokyo Skytree.

I once did a 10 hour Narita layover. I was able to shower at the airport and then venture into Tokyo (Shibuya) despite it being rush hour and being on crutches...

I have a question. When clearing both immigration and customs do you need to show your boarding pass for your connecting flight to them since you don't have an Address in Japan on the Address line on both the immigration and customs forms?

Karl Ahlf can't remember, but they will understand if you are doing a short day trip. Lots of people do it. No hassle with customs, very understanding agents

Vince Nguyen Thanks! Any specific recommendations to explore given that I have only 9 hrs of layover - out of which 3 hours is dedicated for transit/security and say roughly around 2 hrs(one hour each way) in getting to and fro from the airport.
