    Love the video man ! Great work , I just wanted to ask looking into getting a fx30 or fx3 to start filming more coming from a Fuji x100v but want more video capability and want better AF . Budget is about 3.5 k would you still buy these cameras in 2024 mostly shooting personal stuff and travel thanks

    Hey Thomas , I picked up the MKE 600 for the fx3. If you are shooting with the MKE 600 as a shotgun mic shooting hand held and plugged into the XLR module, Is it normal to pick up lots extra noise or is this mic better suited for being on tripod set up or boom stand. I feel like this mic is so sensitive and it might be hard to use hand held unless I'm doing some thing wrong. which is probably the case lol

    • @JeffMax
      @JeffMax 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m experiencing the same, try to not move your hand as much or go off camera with the mic.

    • @alansarpy
      @alansarpy 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JeffMax yeah I feel like it picks up amazing sound quality, but the slightest movement you can get unwanted noise , even tho I'm using the gasket it's nice and snug , but the actual mount is moves around and the mic pics it up

      @@alansarpy I find the extra noises coming from the rig in a handheld run-and-gun scenario acceptable for action scenes (high volume levels in the scene, music in background etc) but handheld for quite scenes - I.e. interviews or documentary work - you definitely need to go off camera with the Mic. I think this is more a less the same for all shotgun microphones tbh. Shotgun mics are pretty sensitive, and having a mic on a rig which creates all type of contact noises isn’t ideal in low volume environments.

      hey! yeah I've noticed some sound on the fx3. Never caught any sound on the c70! Do you have the rubber spacers? I rock those too but I'm very careful about moving my hands while recording audio- especially when wearing rings haha
      The best bet would prob mounting it elsewhere rather than on that top handle mount. I think the top handle's materials transmit those vibrations easily and since theyre all in one place you get that sound. On my c70 I'd run the shock mount to the side of the camera handle so it never picked up that sound

      @@thomas.kovacik thanks Thomas .. I've spoke with a people now , and just like you said .. The FX3 top handle is like an echo chamber with a xlr mic attached... Ive just been extra careful when shooting while hand holding...

    What v mount battery plate are you using?

      @thomas.kovacik  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      hey! using the IDX cheeseplate + vmount plate, you can find links under the full gear kit link!

    New Sony user here (and soon to have a FX3)
    Quick question, do you use V90 SD or CF Express A?

    • @thomas.kovacik
      @thomas.kovacik  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m using prograde v90 sd cards! Not opposed to CFE, but I don’t need 120fps and I already had a bunch of these SDs. I prefer CFE bc they’re faster and newer but they’re expensive haha

    I noticed on your gear website you don't use a dummy battery. Excuse my beginner question but what is the benefit of the big v mount battery if you're not using it to power the camera? Is it just for the weight?

    • @thomas.kovacik
      @thomas.kovacik  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do use it o power the camera! It’s the black cable I connect off the back
      Dummy batteries are clunky and tend to have issues. Th FX3 requires PD draw- so you’re essentially trickle charging the camera by having the internal battery in, while connecting the vmount to camera

    • @billem16
      @billem16 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      gotcha! so you just run a cable from the Vmount battery into the USBC charging port on the side of the camera? last question, it seems you still use regular batteries for your monitor, but i guess you could have the option to power that as well if you want, right? thanks!@@thomas.kovacik

    • @thomas.kovacik
      @thomas.kovacik  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yep! that's exactly it- I got a kondor blue dtap cable to usbc, and another kondor blue usbc to usbc- I use either depending on my kit / batteries
      Yup! I also have a dtap to barrel / lemo for my monitors. Just depends on the setup too. Sometimes im lazy and don't want to run another cable so I'll use NPF. Other times I care about weight so I'll throw the dtap on
      Nice to have options!
