    Watching this video made me pull the trigger on a SBGR311, as a collector just listed it near my location in Singapore. Just collected it today and I must say it’s truly stunning. Thanks for sharing this mark!

    Wow. I’ve watched many GS videos and didn’t know a lot of the things about them that you went over. Incredible. I think part of the reason they’re priced lower than most think they could be is the lack of advertising they do. Thanks!

      The primary reason Rolex and Omega are famous because they get featured in movies, otherwise GS watches are technically superior to the former brands...
      It's my observation that Grand Seiko is getting a cult following by the day and the prices of the timepieces will only go north, if i were u I would grab those best looking limited editions as soon as in can, just look at how Sarb033 has exploded in its popularity, one had to shell out 1000 USD to get a mint Sarb033

    Grand Seiko best value in the luxury watch brands. I didnt know they are the only one to make everything in house! That is impressive!

    There is a lot of talk about GS dials, but really great to see the movements getting some credit too! Seiko Presage line also has some incredible dials, Shippo enamel limited editions are true hidden gems and unbelievably obscure considering the value proposal.

    Looking at the SBGR311, it reminded me of the color of a vintage wheat penny, or dark copper color. I'm just glad you reluctantly referred to it as "root beer" , instead of calling it the "Brown Whirlpool". That would've probably conjured up images of the bathroom.

    Currently own a Spring Drive (was my first GS), along with a 9F GMT. Been seriously debating which 9S mechanical to add to have the 3 movements from GS.
    The brown whirlpool has always intrigued me as well, but wish it had the same dimensions as its blue brother.

    • @CrownandCaliber
      @CrownandCaliber  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like the slightly larger dimensions, but I have a 7.5' wrist. Luckily there are a plethora of options to choose from, personal favorite 9S at the moment is the SLGH005 'White Birch' -Mark

    Not a fan of GS bracelets so I am comtemplating on a Skyflake but whats holding me back is the hassle and cost of servicing. Can't service it locally here, they have to send it back to GS in Japan. I wonder if my local watchmaker is able to service a 9S movement.

    I believe there are two common misunderstandings about Seiko history restated in this video. Seiko did not create GS and KS to complete against each other. The two suppliers, Daini and Suwa had for a long time tried to one up the other as suppliers often do. They were not created to do so. Also, the trials in Switzerland were not cancelled as a conspiracy against the Japanese. It was simply the fact that the trials were no longer fair because of quartz technology. Please have a look at the article and documentary I made with David Flett, listed on Beyond the Dial, "Seikos Dueling Factories".

    • @CrownandCaliber
      @CrownandCaliber  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope sapphire, lab grown sapphire has been around for many decades now and is perfect for luxury watches clear and very hard to scratch. They do grow their own quartz too though for the quartz movements. -Mark
